Have a wonderful summer!
Summer Reading Program
We will be participating in Scholastic's Summer Reading Program this year. The program runs from May 1-August 31, and students will go online to track their minutes reading, see recommended book lists, participate in a safe, moderated discussion board about books, and participate in weekly reading challenges to earn rewards and prizes. You can track/see your child's reading minutes as well as our school's progress.
We will be part of team "Chaffee," and students will be reading to set a world record with other students all over the world for most minutes read during the summer. Studies show that when children self-select books at the end of the school year, many not only maintain their skills, but actually make reading gains. We feel this program will help keep kids motivated to read throughout the summer, by working toward a world-record goal, and using the computer to track their stats and chat about their books.
Visit this website for more information www.scholastic.com/summer. A letter explaining the program will be going home Friday, April 20th.
