SAFETY UPDATE

Dear Parents,

In light of recent events, the faculty and staff at Gum Springs Elementary has met and revised our safety procedures that were developed with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency when we opened to keep our students safe.  At this time, we will be making some changes to the way we allow access to the building.  We value your role as a team member in your child’s education; however, we are making some significant changes to insure the safety of all of our students.

We are still in the planning stages so you may see other changes in the very near future. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we endeavor to keep our students safe.

You will see the following changes starting on Monday:

·   All visitors must sign in in the front office upon entering the building, present a valid picture ID, and state the reason for their visit. * This applies to walking your child to class in the morning as well as parent conferences.

·   All classroom doors will be locked at all times.

·   Adults should use the designated adult restrooms only. Student restrooms should not be used by visitors.

·   Please enter through the front doors only.

·   Please know that we will be conducting intruder drills periodically. More information will be sent home about these drills.

Reminders:

·   Our student handbook states that, “Students should not be checked out between 2:15 and 2:40 daily.”

·   In addition, parents are not allowed to walk in and pick up students from the lobby during afternoon car rider dismissal.

·   Teachers will not be allowed to have unscheduled conferences during the school day. We are trying to protect instructional time.

·   For the safety of our students, no cars will be allowed in the walker pick up area.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our students safe. Please keep in mind that security has to be addressed with each school’s specific needs based on building design. Each school will have a unique plan based on building specifications. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call and speak with an administrator.
