The annual Charlotte Labor Day Parade will be held Monday September 3rd at 10 am. Organized by the Charlotte Labor Day Parade Committee in conjunction with local labor organizations and the Southern Piedmont Central Labor Council, the parade honors the accomplishments of organized labor in our country, our region, and in our community. This year's parade comes before the opening of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. For security reasons this year's route will be from Pearl Street Park to Marshall Park on the edge of uptown Charlotte. Also this year's parade will be a marching parade featuring local labor organizations, bands, political candidates, and community groups. Our theme for 2012 is "Takin' it to the Streets". Parade chairman Ben Lee - vice general chairman for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen urges all to come on out for "an old fashioned parade - union made".
DATE AND TIME: Monday September 3rd at 10 am. Pre-parade assembly begins at 8 am at Pearl Street Park- Kenilworth Avenue entrance
ROUTE: Parade begins at the Pearl Street Park - Baxter Street to McDowell St. to Stonewall St. to South Caldwell St. to 3rd Street- ending at Marshal Park
Hope to see you there. Always remember those who fought, suffered, and died for our worker rights, the 40 hour week, the weekends, retirement, and healthcare; and please never take it for granted.
Hello friends and fans of the Charlotte Labor Day Parade Committee,
We hope your holiday season finds you well. With all the new and exciting things coming up in 2012, the Committee would like to update you on the changes to next year's parade. Be sure to click on the "Press Release" tab to see the latest news from our Parade Chairman.
With the impending arrival of rain from Tropical Storm Lee, Parade Chairman Ben Lee has issued a statement regarding the weather and tomorrow's Labor Day parade.
"We deal with the threat of bad weather every year. We leave it up to the individual groups and participants to decide if it's too wet for them. Many of us in labor work in the rain anyway, so we try not to break the continuity of the parade. The parade committee has numerous monetary obligations in contracts we can't back out of by canceling. In the worst case, we will try to run the motorized units and those that wish to proceed. We certainly understand if someone wishes not to participate due to weather."
Hopefully, the rain will hold out until after the parade! However, the Labor Day Parade Committee will be posting updates via our Facebook site all morning up until the beginning of the parade. Our Facebook site can be found at www.Facebook.com/CLDPC. After the parade, you can find recap of the parade as well as photos of the event. Thank you again to all the Committee, participants, and community for your hard work and support of the parade. We look forward to seeing you there! Happy Labor Day!!!
