CLDPC Press Release

The 2012 Charlotte Labor Day Parade will be held on Labor Day Monday September 3. The annual Charlotte Labor day Parade is a genuine Labor Day Parade – held on Labor Day put on by and spotlighting organized labor in our community and region. What differentiates the 2012 parade from the past 12 parades is that it occurs the day before the Democratic National Convention begins here in Charlotte. In a recent meeting with the City, parade parameters were discussed. Due to their security concerns, the 2012 Charlotte Labor Day Parade will be different. Motorized vehicles and marching bands will not be allowed. Essentially this will be a marching parade. Additionally, the route has yet to be determined. My request was to have a route that at least passes through The Square. Also, a time for the parade has yet to be determined. Given the importance of this parade to our labor community, I chose to preserve the continuity of our parade. Our forbearers, who suffered and sacrificed for us, would have. They would have embraced the march and gladly took it to the streets. I encourage those with the spirit to be in the 2012 Charlotte Labor Day Parade to contact us.

Ben Lee

Parade Chairman and Vice General Chairman – Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen
