Watershed Education
Program Mission:
Inspire & empower individuals and communities to become stewards of Chautauqua County watersheds, by raising awareness, inspiring appreciation & facilitating positive changes through active learning and hands-on experiences.
Program Objectives:
Raise Awareness:
The program uses presentations, workshops and various media outlets to educate individuals, organizations & communities on watershed characteristics, threats to local watersheds and current management efforts to protect, restore & enhance our water resources throughout Chautauqua County.
Inspire Appreciation:
By raising awareness of both the direct & indirect benefits of healthy watersheds, the program inspires a “new appreciation” of our local water resources and the importance of personal watershed stewardship.
Facilitate Positive Actions:
By providing outreach in the form of, publications, media messages, hands-on workshops, technical assistance and community events the Watershed Stewardship Program empowers individuals to make positive changes that help restore and protect our local watersheds.

Betsy Hite, Watershed Steward, works closely with several Master Gardeners to prepare the Healthy Water Hopscotch and Journey of a Water Drop activities for this year's Conservation Field Days. This event provides Chautauqua County fifth grade students an opportunity to learn about the environment in a fun and interactive way.
This Event is for Silver Creek Residents Only
There will be a brief presentation followed by Rain Barrel Construction, Installation and Maintenance. Please use the contact info. at the top of the page to register for the event. Registration closes on Wednesday, July 8th at 5pm!

A Program of the Chautauqua Lake Watershed Education Program partnership between Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County, the Chautauqua Lake Management Commission and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
Featuring:
2-5 PM Lakescaping and Watershed Landscaping Workshop for Professionals (landscapers, designers, groundskeepers, agency personnel etc.)
6:30-8:30 PM Lakescaping and Watershed Landscaping Program for Homeowners

Open House & Walk Around Survey
With your help and input, the Chautauqua Lake Management Commission has been busy guiding the development of a Watershed Management Plan for Chautauqua Lake.
The goal is to develop a comprehensive plan of action that can be supported by the community and implemented. Policies and actions proposed at this open house will answer the questions:…the time has come to ask you if we’re on the right course.
