It isn't high tide yet!

In between the houses
Water from Northport Harbor floods the area between the houses.

Front Yard
Water approaching the deck in front of our house.

"Office house" Deck
At high tide the water reached the top of the deck.

Side of office house
The side of the office looked like a river according to my husband Steve who took these photos.

CREATING THE ARBOR GARDEN

Early Spring
Yews are 30' in diameter and branches touch the ground!

Limbing up the 30' diameter yews
I started this project myself, but eventually hired help armed with a chainsaw!

Yew structure revealed!
I'm really pleased how this project turned out. The little mound around the yew started filling my head with ideas!

Second yew
This one was only parially limbed up in order to create a backdrop.

New planting space!
The walkway and a new bed will go here.

Pre-exisiting planting
Hostas and perennials

The start of the rock wall
I had a pallet of stone at the end of my driveway for a year while I waited for help to move the heaviest stone!

The wall is progressing
I worked on building the wall while my son helped finish digging the walkway.

Jaron digging the pathway a bit deeper
The path is a few inches below grade and the beds are on a slight berm. The left side is the original bed.

Largest stones were placed on the path
The main path is about 30' long. The stones need to be leveled and filled in with sandy soil. Spot 's inspecting!

White flowering garden in summer '04
There are a variety of foliage colors in this garden. The red is puirple basil and 'Diablo' ninebark.

Limbing up the 30' diameter yews
I started this project myself, but eventually hired help armed with a chainsaw!

Yew structure revealed!
I'm really pleased how this project turned out. The little mound around the yew started filling my head with ideas!

Original garden
Hisbiscus 'Diana', Daylily 'Ice Carnival'

Early Spring
Yews are 30' in diameter and branches touch the ground!

Pre-exisiting planting
Hostas and perennials

Second yew
This one was only parially limbed up in order to create a backdrop.

New planting space!
The walkway and a new bed will go here.

Walkway and white daylilies
How should I "finish" the edge of these beds?

Happy Thanksgiving!
