Credentialed Teacher offering Preschool Program & Licensed Childcare for up to 6 children

Small program for lots of individual attention and tayloring of activities for each child's needs.  We do a little reading and counting every day, but have plenty of time to learn social skills such as peaceful negotiation and language development that only come through playing with other children.  I've created my own phonics-based Reading Curriculum that takes just minutes per day and produces great results!  We read and sound out words that come up during play.  We learn about God's awesome creation all around us.  We count real objects during play.  We enjoy following curiosity and being together.

As a teacher, I'm always looking for "Teachable Moments" during natural times of the day, because I believe they provide the best reception for learning.  Accepting applicants beginning at 3 years old, and going up through school age after-school-care that is calmer, more home-like and more individualized than larger school-based centers.  Free introductory day to get to know us.

My Background, Experience and Practices

In 1988, I was seeking training in early childhood education that was effective and proven in the classroom.  I did not want to waste my time learning idle theories and philosophies that were not proven in the classroom.  I observed that children trained in the Montessori Method were exhibiting just the characteristics I wanted to see in children:  They were both happy and high-achieving academically and socially.  In the 20 years that followed, I took both Montessori training and traditional Early Childhood Education.  After I earned my Elementary Teaching Credential, I also taught and substituted in over 30 schools and preschools, including public and private.  Through it all, I kept getting reinforced about Montessori's great approach to early reading, math, social and sensory refinement.  In fact, I noticed that Montessori's good methods and materials were appearing more and more in other curriculums.

However, my program is an eclectic blend of all I've learned over the years, and is constantly renewing and evolving to incorporate the ideas of my kids and myself.   Several years ago, I produced my own simple reading curriculum which helped many of my 4 year olds learn to read simple, phonetic 3-letter words, as well as know many of their sounds.  It takes just minutes per day and the kids like it.  I love it because it is painless and effective and combines the best of both phonics and whole language!!
