ARTIST STATEMENT

Our world is so busy, people rushing around not aware of their surroundings.  What they see everyday just fading into the background – the beautiful things of nature created by God for us to enjoy.  In my work, I am exploring our surroundings and bringing it to canvas as a reminder, so the viewer becomes aware and invokes a sensation or emotion.   I want my paintings to speak to people and draw them in.

My paintings are a powerful, concise reductive style.  They are very much about design, bright colors and contours.  It's simplified yet complex.  Being inspired by nature and courtyards, I focus in - capturing the energy and creating contoured forms that transform the subject into a powerful image.   I want to draw out the life just under the surface with form, movement and color.

Utilizing acrylic paints I build up thin layers of color to achieve texture, movement and energy - developing color relationships and composition to create bold, powerful images.

I enjoy the process of painting itself – losing myself in creating and escaping into the paint, the colors and the brush on the canvas.  Painting is my passion in life.  Art enables me to enjoy nature in an intimate way.  For all of this I feel truly blessed.
