Camp journal

Week Nine

This week was an exciting week at camp full of fun adventures and challenges. Around the world week provided campers with some new knowledge and a new prospective. Campers painted flags from around the world, made then destroyed a pinata, among many other fun crafts.

The Oaks climbed new heights on the challenge course. Once up on the challenge course they traversed 2 elements on their way to the zip line. From the crows nest they made a speedy descent back down to the ground on our 100 foot zip line.

The Acorns are to young to adventure to the high ropes just yet, but they had a challenge of their own on our low ropes course! A combination of a scavenger hunt and group challenge they battled shipwreck island and faced it's many challenges to return to their ship (better known as canoes). Along their way they created their own pirate flag and song.

Take a look at some of the neat things we were able to do this week at camp! Remember there are only 2 weeks left, so sign your child up for camp today!

Week Eight

To say the least this week was scorching hot! With record highs our campers fought the heat with water games, fear factor, and trust activities. 

The Oaks (8-12 yr) took a leap of faith from the pamper pole. The pamper pole consists of a pole that is roughly 40 feet off the ground, each camper has a chance to set a goal then climb the pole challenging themselves. At the top, they stand atop the pole then jump out in a "leap of faith," then are lowered to the ground. This challenge course element was surely a favorite this week!

Week Seven

Can you survive survivor week?
This week campers learned how to start a fire, use a compass, and the practice of Leave no Trace. We also shot some arrows at the archery range, raced in the canoes, and identified some local flora. 
Overnight was on Thursday and the campers slept in tents exhausted after a full day of fun and adventure!

Week Five

On your mark, get set, GO! This week was full of relay races, decorated cookies, and paintings. We did swim races at waterfront time, egg races in the athletic field, and decorated cookies for the Fourth of July!

Week Four

War paint was streaked across the camper's faces this week as we celebrated the theme "Native Americans."  We made necklaces, headbands, and dream catchers! Marshmallows roasted on the fire Wednesday as we enjoyed s'mores and sang camp songs! 

Tepees were the highlight of the week. Creativity was surging as campers ran through the woods collecting materials to build their shelters that consisted of fallen limbs, sticks, leaves, and tree bark.

Week Three

The rain has been hitting us, but that has not stopped the fun out here at camp! While the rain came pouring down outside we took shelter and enjoyed the karaoke machine as the campers played American Idol. Those who did not want to sing busted some moves on the stage (check out the videos). In the afternoon the Oaks made individual pizzas to celebrate a campers Birthday, while the Acorns colored cards for Fathers Day.

Once the sun came beaming through the trees and the skies cleared we darted out to our athletic field for a large game of "gold rush." (Gold rush is a variation of capture the flag). All the campers were worn out from the running, but found their second wind at the lake where they played in the sand, swam, and fished.
