Updates and news

New to Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School!

Hi everyone!  I am new to ERMS this year as the 6th grade Counselor.  It has been a fast paced, learn a lot, schedule a lot, and meet a lot of great kids!  It feels like the 6th graders have caught on fast and are doing well in the middle school swing of it!  The 6th grade fun night, was just that, FUN!  I am looking forward to a great year, and getting to  know the kids better and better as I work with them through these middle school years!

April

It is so hard to believe that April is here...time is flying.  We just don't have that much of the school year left.  We are busy planning the end of the year activities.  Clean up day at Albrecht Acres will be one of those days!  It is a great opportunity for our students to give back to the community and show their caring ways!  We are still in discussion for any other activities.  I know I have had lots of students asking if we'll have a Talent Show...I hope so, but we'll see!

I have posted a few pictures of our trip to Disney!  It was amazing!  Sooo much fun!

Nicer weather!

YaY!  The weather is a bit nicer...but...not that nice.  Just had a couple students come in for their gloves, as their hands were bright red from the cold!  I know it can be hard to be sure they wear their winter wardrobe, but encourage them to stay warm with their gloves and hats, and coats!  We have a lot of kids not feeling the best!  My son was just very sick, and it is no fun.  Please teach your children to cough and sneeze into their arm - get it covered to not spread the germs!  Thank you!!  Kindness Matters, Mrs. Glennon

Thoughts

Our Sageville family puts our thoughts and support for our family dealing with the loss of a loved one!  With deepest sympathies!

February 1st

Hello, and welcome February with a snow storm.  We are getting out early today, so, have the kids take some time getting in their extra reading, getting themselves caught up on things they need to do...clean their room!  ; )  If you have time, take a look at the video I posted from the Today Show.  It is a disturbing account of how bullying can go soooo wrong!  The ages of the kids involved are 13 - 17.
Stay safe in the snow!  Kindness matters, Mrs. Glennon

Sledding Day

As you can see by the pictures, sledding day was a huge hit...some crashes, some tumbles, but lots of laughing and many smiles!  Great weather.  Great kids.  Great families bringing and picking up sleds.  Fun times!  Kindness matters, Mrs. Glennon

Officer Tyler visits

Office Tyler was able to come to Sageville to visit with K-5 students!!!  He has a few classes to complete yet, but hopefully that will happen in early on in February.  He introduced himself, what makes him a police officer, discussed safe choices, and how we need more people to be good witnesses - willing to report things, instead of bystanders who know bad things that happen and don't say anything!  I felt it was great to have him visit, as our students will be in schools eventually with School Resource Officers present, so I'm glad he is able to come and be visual with our students too!  Historically we have not been able to get this service because we are out of city limits!  Kindness matters, Mrs. Glennon

Student Council

What an amazing experience.  We were able to take 11 Sageville students who represent our Student Council to Albrecht Acres for the Special Olympics snowshoeing event.  Pride is the word that comes to mind as I watched our students encouraging and running along the track to help them keep going!!!  We saw the athletes snowshoe the 400 meter race, and saw one of the relay races!  It is a great experience, not only for the athletes, but as a staff member watching students doing such great things!  Way to represent Sageville Student Council members!!!!

Celebration Assembly

Just had a great Celebration Assembly!  It is great to see everyone together, and to celebrate reading, math, and good character!!!  It was announced that everyone will be part of our sledding day...but we aren't sure when it will be due to the weather!  But, fun shall be had when we do get to that day!!
Have a great weekend!!  I'm looking forward to seeing my 5th grade daughter in her 1st volleyball tournament this weekend, and celebrating my son's 5th birthday too...
AND watching the Packers win!!  ; )  Kindness matters, Mrs. G

2011 here we come!!!

Wow!  2011 is here!  I feel like the school year just started, and now we have changed over the calendars!  We just completed the Spelling Bee today - congratulations to all the participants and to the top 4 spellers - Jonah, Taylor, Alli, and Alexis!!!  It takes courage to get up front and spell into a microphone!!  I am so glad we have these opportunities for our students!

Our Student Council is busy these days as well - working on our next project...something about...well, you'll have to see! ; )  A great group of kids with some really fabulous ideas!

Next week we get to attend the Special Olympics at Albrecht Acres, the snowshoeing event.  Student Council members and a few adults will be cheering on the athletes!

Request for games or puzzles!

HI!!  Glad we got a full week in!  I run the mentor program here at school, and so adults from places like John Deere, Eichmans, and other community areas come here once a week to work with a student 1-1, develop a relationship...it shows students that an adult cares, they are taking time from their day to come and spend it with them!  So, as I think about the cold/snowy weather coming and the mentors in my office, or the office next door...I'm wondering if anyone has any old games or puzzles...with all the pieces needed, that they would like to donate to Sageville for our mentors to use during their time being spent with our students?  If so, you can have your student bring them to me, or drop it at the office and I will take it from there!  IF you are interested in becoming a mentor - send me an email or give me a call!
Thank you sooooo much!  Be safe this weekend!  Mrs. Glennon

Big break...

Well, 5 days off, now...back to reality!  For my family, it was awesome to have the 5 days off, we were able to see lots of family and friends, and were able to get jump started to the next season!!! We still put a real tree in our home, and so we have that all decorated and lit in our living room!  The excitement is brewing in our home with the three kids! (and the 2 adults!!!)
So, we have 3 weeks of school, lots to learn!  Remember to send along hats, gloves, boots, and all that stuff labeled as we hit Iowa winter!!!  Nice matters, Mrs. Glennon

Polar Plunge

Thank you to everyone who helped Sageville help Officer Snyder raise money for the Polar Plunge and the Special Olympics!!
Here's what Officer Snyder had to say:
Thank you to everyone who supported the 2010 Polar Plunge.
The VIP's (Village People Plungers) raised over $3,400 towards the $27,000
raised this year at the Dubuque Polar Plunge. The VIP'S appeared dancing to YMCA and plunged to Macho Man.
Yes it was Colorful, Entertaining and Unforgettable.
How could we possibly beat this year for 2011 Plunge.
Well we are already planning and preparing for next year. Thanks again for your support of the Iowa Special Olympics

Thankfulness

I truly believe that when we can focus on the positive things in our life, that we can get through many bumps on life's journey!  There are many things I am thankful for: my husband, my kids, my parents, my brother and his family, my in laws, all of my husband's family (8 siblings and their spouses and the other 29 children), my friends, my neighbors, my Sageville family of students, their families, and the staff...the health I have, and for this great area we live in!  The list could go on, and be even more specific...but I know this list is much longer than the one I could create about things I could complain about, and quite frankly - this list is much more uplifting!!!

1st week back

What a rollercoaster ride!  To be told I was leaving last year and trying to say goodbyes, to the great news of the federal stimulus money replacing Counselors in every elementary building...and being told I will get to go back to Sageville!  It has been great getting to see everyone again, and meet our new students!!  I'm working on getting my schedule figured out...as things are different with part time specialists, and a 2 section school!  It will all come together!  By Tuesday I will have been in all the classrooms again...and it feels FABULOUS!
Loved the sea of orange for a welcome back - and the decorations in my office, such a great community!!!
