Hello! My name is Cathy Roembke and I am a two and a half year breast cancer survivor. While I was undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, and eventually surgery, card making became my escape. While the journey wasn’t easy, I had an amazing support group who travelled along side of me every step of the way. I was blessed and continue to be blessed. Unfortunately, many of the women I met while waiting for doctor’s appointments and while receiving my various treatments, were not as fortunate. I knew then that I wanted, and needed, to give back. I began to wonder if my “hobby” which had been so helpful for me, could possibly help another woman facing the same challenges.
It wasn't until about a year after my treatments ended that I was introduced to an amazing organization; the I.W.I.N. Foundation (Indiana Women in Need). This organization relies on volunteers, third party fundraisers and charitable donations to fund their mission, which is to give $500 grants to women in the state of Indiana who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer. In the past, women have used this grant money for gas cards to get to and from treatment, paid for babysitters while in treatment, or purchased pre-made meals for their families when they were to nauseous or exhausted to fix a meal for themselves. The list of needs these women have during this difficult time goes on and on.
I am proud, and yet humbled, that with the help and support of family and friends, we raised over $9,000, made over 5,000 cards and sponsored 18 grants in 2010.
As I look forward to 2011, I hope to continue to support an amazing organization that in turn is supporting a group of brave women going through one of the most challenging journeys of their life.
Thank you so much for stopping by my site and for continuing to support this very important cause!
