About us

The Rotary Club of San Antonio at the Dominion was formed at the request of Rotary International’s President of 2001-2, Mr. Frank Devlyn. Frank felt that the community resources including the Dominion Country Club should more than adequately support a progressive Rotary Club. Since John Thurman was working with him to locate a vacation residence in San Antonio at the time, he knew Frank and also Rotary and was charged with being the founder of our club.

John Thurman our visionary, has been involved with membership development for Rotary District 5840 for some time and has learned that those clubs that pay strong attention to achieving the personal goals of the members in the area of business networking enjoy better success rates in membership retention and involvement in Rotary’s benevolence programs. Paul Harris, Rotary’s founder, assembled a few acquaintances he felt he could trust on a cold Chicago night in 1905 with one basic thing in mind: network with trustworthy people for the purpose of doing business with one another. Everything Rotary has become emanated from this humble but self-serving objective.

Our club’s beginning was during the Fall of 2002 when initial meetings were held and was Chartered in January 2003. John Thurman is confident that the rapid growth and accomplishments of The Rotary Club of San Antonio at the Dominion significantly reinforces the importance of attention to this detail.

Quality programs have been utilized to foster strong attendance and a forum for encouraging members to bring visitors and prospective members. The Rotary Lanes of Service concept has been used to encourage member involvement in both local and international service. The result has been the delivery of service to our various publics of far greater magnitude in a short period of time than is normal for start-up clubs.

The Rotary Club of San Antonio at the Dominion provides a great place for business and civic leaders to associate and get involved in the affairs of the worldwide community.
