Last Camping Trip of 2009

We took advantage of what we thought would be the last free weekend of the camping season for an overnight trip up to Mammoth Creek.  The low of the night turned out to be 19 degrees!  Yikes!  Kaylee didn't mind being bundled up, but she did not like being kept from eating the rocks and dirt.

Good morning!
We all stayed warm enough bunched up in our new warm sleeping bags. Mike was good enough to get up first and turn on the portable heater for us.

The Creek
It was a pretty spot, right next to the creek. Ryan's favorite thing to do was throw rocks in the water. And he pretty much did that the whole time.

Kaylee loves to make us laugh, and this made me laugh. :-)

One of Ryan's favorite things to do outside. Most of the time he doesn't pedal but pushes with his feet.

Grandma Henke took us and some other family to Cornbelly's one Saturday and we had a great time. This was a cow "train" (pulled by a tractor) that Ryan liked.

Jumping Pillows
I've never seen anything like this before: huge "pillows" on the ground filled with air and you could bounce on them. Ryan really enjoyed this.

Corn Snake
This was super fun because it reminded me of my childhood. It's an easy children's maze made out of hay bales. It even had ceiling/roof made of hay bales so it was like a tunnel inside.  Very fun.

We spent more time doing everything else rather than the Corn Maze that Cornbelly's is famous for. But there was a kids maze that we ran in and out of quickly just before we left.

I took it easy on myself this year and put Ryan in the same costume as last year. It's what he wanted anyways since he lives and breathes dinosaurs lately.  It's a little high water but still cute. :-)  (By the way, he's a Giganotosaurus...and he can say it too!)

Ready to go trick-or-treating! Ryan was actually not very excited about doing this and tired of it pretty quickly. Kaylee loved it when people would let her pick her own candy and putting it in her bag.  At one house she threw a fit as we walked away because she hadn't seen the guy put candy in her bag.  I'm sure she thought she was getting jipped! (sp?)

SOTC Halloween Concert
We had to dress up for the concert, so why not make it a couples costume? Doesn't Mike make a good looking cowboy?! Thanks to great friends and neighbors willing to watch the kids on Halloween night so I could play.

Ryan had his yearly trip to the emergency room after he slid down a trailer ramp and scraped his arm on a screw poking up.  He was very scared to go see the doctor, but was very brave and learned that doctors help you get better.  Now he has a scar that he loves to show to friends and complete strangers.  ("See my owie!)

We enjoyed an impromptu campfire night with the Flinders before they headed back east to the Marines base. It was fun having them close by for awhile so the cousins could play.

1st camping trip
For our first family camping trip of the summer we went to Sand Hallow by St. George. We were amazed the kids slept at all given that the wind was blowing insanely and our neighbors were drunk and loud.  Mike and I hardly slept but the kids slept great.  The magic of tents. :-)  Kaylee loved playing in the sand and didn't even try to eat it.  Amazing, since she puts everything else in her mouth.

They had fun activities in the church parking lot after the 24th parade. We didn't get to try very many of them because Ryan is not old enough handle standing in a line for things (i.e can't hold still in a place full of people).  He did enjoy sitting on the pony though.

Concert @ Angel's Landing
One for the memory book. We played a concert with the Symphony of the Canyons to celebrate their 25th anniversary. It was one of the neatest places I've ever played at.  It was a grassy area surrounded by a curved rock wall on one side (to make a natural ampitheater) and trees on the other side.  Very beautiful.  Definitely a place to stop and see when you come visit Kanab.

24th of July Parade Float
Kristi (my neighbor) and I were asked to be in charge of our ward's RS float in the 24th of July parade.  We really had no clue what we were doing and so I was impressed with how it turned out and came together.  Not professional, but I think it's cute.  2008-07-26

The sign says "Great Things are Worth Sacrificing For...The Best is Yet to Come."  To explain the float:  We had pioneers up front, a family in the middle, missionaries in the back and a picture of the temple on the back of the float.  These represented different ways that we sacrifice nowadays for our future (our children) just as the pioneers did.  Maybe not the best idea since you might not understand it just by looking at the float. :-)  But hey,  it was our first time ever doing a float!  2008-07-26

Ryan and all his cousins watching a movie before bed.  Yeah for modern technology!  We were stuck inside the houseboat all evening because of a big rainstorm and the kids needed some new entertainment.  I'm afraid Ryan might have been a little annoying to the other kids.  He was having so much fun just being on the bed with the cousins that he didn't really watch the movie and climbed all over those who were trying to watch it.  2008-06-04

Ryan loves to get into the bathroom drawers and he always pulls out Q-tips and cottonballs.  He started doing this after he saw me clean my ears out a few times.  Sometimes he'll get one in both ears and just walk around that way.  2008-06-08
