It fits!
Got a late start after work Friday evening, so need to get going to locate a site and pitch camp before dark. Put-in at the Duckett Mill Boat ramp. Fortunately, the island is just across from the boat ramp.

Back at the boat ramp. Chris, Sarah, and Brooklyn stopped by the boat ramp to drop something off and also brought a late breakfast.

Confession Time
Why did Chris and crew come back to the boat ramp. Well.... seems that I brought one end of two different paddles. So to make it work until reinforcements arrived the next day, I ducted taped the 2 incompatible paddles together. Lesson Learned: When in a hurry, take the time to check the details.

Can you see it?
My camp is waaay off in the distance, bit too far to see from this point. Nice to have the boat ramp so close.

Camp Darryl.
Found a nice, but not terribly noticeable site, on Big Junction Island. I checked out some camp sites in this area earlier in the year while camping at River Forks Campground on the other side of the lake from the island.

Better Safe than Sorry!
This was a nice camp site, but..... There were a couple of large trees near by that were not in the best of health. Normally this would not be that big of a deal because they were not completely dead, but the area experienced severe flooding over the last couple of weeks and the ground was very soft. I could see several trees had fallen over.
So, I decided that I would watch the weather closely and bail out of a storm with high wind moved in. That night it did. About 1am I was awakened by noise. Crawled out the tent to check it out and then used my very low battery cell phone to look at the forecast. Sure enough the expected storm was coming in MUCH earlier than expected. I started packing up and then called my saint of a wife, Chris, to come pick me up at the boat ramp. After a difficult paddle against the increasing wind, I made it to the ramp around 3am and then Chris arrived. As I was strapping the boat on the rook, the storm hit with severe rain and wind. Better safe than sorry I say.
