The warm (well, HOT) weather is FINALLY here and we are loving it! We are trying to take advantage of opportunities to be outside. We've gone to the Cape a couple of times, went to Canobie Lake amusement park, and swimming at the beach and Boston's Frog Pond. We had a fun fourth of July cookout, and I am really looking forward to the kids' Pirate-themed birthday party at the end of July. Best of all, we have a visit from my parents to look forward to at the end of the summer just before school starts! 

We are SOOOO tired of winter here! At first we were enjoying all the snow, taking the kids sledding and all that. But after 4 snow storms with no melting in between, we are really running out of places to put it all. Towns can't clear the roads very well because in our area the side streets are narrow to begin with. And mounds of snow at every intersection mean that driving is dangerous at times. Dennis has it even worse, since he commutes by public transportation and the sidewalks are rarely shovelled. Not to mention that getting two little ones bundled up to play in the snow takes half an hour, so it's almost not worth it sometimes. UGH!!!

I love autumn and this year has been nice so far. We went apple picking and made pies and apple sauce. The only problem is that all of our friends went apple picking around the same time, so at every single event or playdate we've gone to, someone has brought an apple dessert. We've had enough of apples for a little while.

 

My parents came to visit and we had a wonderful time! I felt bad for the kids, though, when they left. Even at four, Annie doesn't really understand why they aren't around all the time, why we can't just go see them any time we want to. But we all decided that the next time we do go to CA to visit, we'll take the kids to Disneyland, so that will be a big thing to look forward to.

 

Annie is getting into the Halloween spirit and she is going to be Jessie from Toy Story. Declan doesn't really know what's going on, all he knows is that Mom tried to put a monkey suit on him and he hated it. "Monkey OFF!!!" is what he said. Oh well. I hope I can get him to keep it on long enough to get a cute picture on Halloween.

We had a fantastic birthday party for the kids. The theme was "Messy Party" and every activity was fun and messy. Check out Dennis getting pies thrown at him for the "Throw-a-pie-at-Dad" contest. What other Daddy would be so sweet as to volunteer for that (or let himself be "volunteered")?

NOw we are looking forward to school starting again, even thought I hate to see the Summer end. The big news is that Mom & Dad are coming for a visit from CA - I'm so excited!!!

I can't wait to get out of the house more, even though Spring also means a HUGE to-do list around here.

I really can't believe it is 2010 already!

 

We had a great Christmas here.  Annie was so excited about the whole thing; it was so much fun to watch her. She loved the idea of Santa (we visited three different ones) and she started to learn about the Nativity. This newfound knowledge led her to take her duties as a big sister very seriously: "No, Declan, you don't EAT the baby Jesus!" As for Declan, he could have cared less about opening the presents, but he sure loves the new toys that are around the house now.

 

We had a great Christmas party with Dennis's family, but I really missed seeing my family this year. I'm sure I will miss them even more as I'm freezing my tushy off in February and they are having nice warm sunny days. Winter will be long this year with no CA trip to look forward to... Speaking of winter, it will be interesting in our new town.  We have a wonderful sledding hill near us, so that will be fun. The downside of snow is that our road doesn't seem to get plowed very well (or when it does, they leave a nice pile of snow right in front of our driveway). Who would have thought that the four-wheel-drive would come in handy living in the suburbs near Boston??? Living near the beach, we are supposed to get less snow, but you know what we get a lot more of? WIND! And it is not so nice when that wind chill hits you in a big blast as you are leaving your house!

 

But all in all, we are loving our new neighborhood, and seeing what every new season is like here.

We are looking forward to Halloween, but I know that means that winter is right around the corner, and I am NOT looking forward to that!!!

 

In other news, homeownership is sometimes not all it's cracked up to be.  We anticipated that when you own a home, there is always something that needs to be fixed. We just didn't realize that three or four things would happen all at once, and all of them would be "need-to-do-it-ASAP" items.  UGH.

 

 

We are all settled into the new house and we really love the neighborhood.  The fourth of July celebration was amazing, we can actually see the fireworks from our house and there is a big party right down the street at the beach! 

 

I am looking to go back to work part-time, and I also registered with a casting office here in Boston. I don't have time to do theatre projects right now, but maybe I can get some short-term paid acting work (commercials, etc.) I really need to update my headshots, though!

 

The kids are great.  Declan is ONE now and Annie is turning THREE! Yikes...

 

Dennis is happy because this is his "slow season" at work, so he is home on the weekends and he can even take some time off.

 

I'm loving the summer and I will be so sad to see it go.

The exciting news is WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!  It is an adorable little house near the water in a lovely town just south of Boston.   Now we get to experience all the joys of home ownership.  Like this week when I realized we had an ant problem - My first thought was, "We'll have to call the landlord and tell them to send an exterminator..." And then I laughed, but it really wasn't very funny.

We are plodding through the last weeks of winter now and desperately wishing for spring!  Annie is getting restless (and oh, how opinionated a two-year-old can be!) and I am restless too. 

 

Declan is beginning to sit up on his own and he is a great eater.  Now if he would just sleep a bit more at night, we'd be golden.  We are seeing more of his personality now, which is such a neat thing to see. 

 

It really is great to have the two of them.  It is hard to just enjoy them sometimes when you are in the thick of it - toddler tantrums and sleepless nights - but through it all, I do realize how blessed we've been.  

The big news is that we are buying a house!  It is very exciting, but the buying process is a headache.  We really love the house - it is small, but very cute and cozy. 

 

 

Carol Anne is two-and-a-half now, and chatting up a storm.  She obviously thinks our house is her own personal little dictatorship, because she regularly tries to order us around these days ("Mommy, come!")  But despite the usual terrible twos stuff, we are really enjoying her at this age because her language is so funny. When she wants to be picked up, she says "Carry you?" (instead of "Carry Me") When she wants to get the attention of more than one person she says, "Guys, Guys!" and lately when something unpleasant happens she says, "Aw, Man!"  It's like a comedy show every single day, but we have to watch what we say.  She is also singing along with songs, which is just adorable.

 

Declan is five months old as of Dec.9th, and he is rather big for his age.  He is such a sweet and easy-going baby, though we wish he slept better at night!  Lately he is laughing and cooing and trying to roll over. He also started solid food, but he doesn't seem thrilled about it so far. 

 

After being in Boston for a year now, we are really enjoying it.  Christa misses NYC sometimes (and especially our friends there) but she has made a lot of new friends in this area.

 

Since September of last year, Dennis has been working at Boston University's Agannis Arena.  http://www.agganisarena.com/  The schedule can be grueling, but he likes the people he is working with.
