Thank you LynAnne for doing this. It looks wonderful! You've added so much with pictures, links and valuable information. Bless you! Deanna Hodson

Note: April meeting is the 14th rather than the 7th. I know it seems late this month.

Ohmygosh! This is a really nice way to share our pictures and news.

Welcome

Greeting from the Eudora Quilting Bees,

We are pleased you have come to our site. The Eudora Quilting Bee is open to anyone interested in quilting. Whether you are new to quilting, or have been quilting for many years our guild has much to offer in the way of community, knowledge and enjoyment of the art and craft of quilting.

Our regular meetings are held at St. Paul's UCC Church, 8th and Church St. in Eudora, KS on the second Tuesday of each month (excepting December) at 6:30 p.m (NEW TIME).  Come along and see what's happening with us.

Occasionally, we hold meetings at Quilting Bits N Pieces, on 8th & Main St in Eudora.  Use the website as a general guide, but the latest e-mail should be the most accurate info on meeting time & place

Pizza Box Swap

The guild has chosen to do another Pizza Box Swap beginning in April.  Deanna has volunteered to organize it so each month we will know who we are passing to.  This is for all members who wish to participate.

Bring to the April meeting:
A Pizza Box or any type of bin that will hold your pattern/book, your fabrics and any further instructions you want to pass on for those doing a block for you.  Be sure to include any special items required to complete your block.  For example:  special ruler, paper piecing papers (enough for 15-20 members – this will be more accurate when we know how many choose to participate), templates, etc.  Deanna is having members embroider names and flowers on a premade block so she will include embroidery floss, needles and a hoop.  You may also want to include a checklist for members to sign their names and list the block they completed for you if there are multiple blocks to chose from in a book.

Be sure to have all the fabric necessary to make your blocks.  In some cases members can add fabrics from their stash to enhance your project if you specify that this is allowed, however the majority of the fabric should be provided by you.  We can always notify the box owner if things run low as the project progresses.  You may also come across a new fabric you want to add at a later time as well.

How it works:  Lets say for example we have Ann, Darla, Deanna and Eula involved in the swap and we choose to pass alphabetically by first name.  In April Ann will pass to Darla, Darla to Deanna and Deanna to Eula.  The next month Darla will pass Ann’s to Deanna and Deanna will pass Darla’s to Eula and so on.  This exchange will continue for the same number of months as their are participants.  If we have 12 involved, 12 months, 18 involved 18 months.  This way everyone will get the chance to make a block for each of the participants.  As blocks are completed, they will remain in the box so the next person will be able to choose blocks/colors to coordinate with previous blocks.  By being a part of this exchange you will have the privilege of working with new color ways, techniques, new challenges and an eclectic variety of styles and tastes.

Be sure to label the books/patterns/tools in your box so they remain with your box and take care to keep each box complete and organized for the next person.  In the past we did some show and tell each month of all the blocks that were completed.  This is always inspiring and fun.  When we finish, Darla has indicated that she will be willing to post our projects on the website.

February Tall Oaks Retreat

It's getting closer to time on the annual February retreat at Tall Oaks.  This is held from Saturday to Tuesday Feb 18 - 21st.

Holiday Meeting in Baldwin City

Our annual Christmas Party is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, November 8th, at Three Sisters Inn, 1035 Ames, in Baldwin City, KS. Dinner is $15.00 (cash or check payable to the Guild) at the door.
There will be a gift exchange following dinner, bring a wrapped gift, not to exceed $15.00 (something that a quilter would want), if you would like to participate.
Hope to see you there.

September Meeting at QB&P

The September meeting of the Eudora Quilting Bees will be held at Quilting Bits N Pieces, 8th & Main downtown Eudora.

The program for the month is 10 minute blocks.
Each block contains 5 squares. Minimum size 5 in. sq.  Minimum of 3 different fabrics. Charm squares and layer cake squares are great (no cutting to do).  Each square should be different with the center square the same or similar color palette (white or ecru). Sewing machine, thread, pins, etc.  Remember these blocks take a maximum of 10 minutes to make, so bring several sets of squares.

Quilt Show Winners 2011

Sorry this has taken me so long to put up!

The winners for the Eudora Quilting Bees 2011 Quilt show

Judy Beaman, won with her Grandma's Kitchen quilt.

Doris Davidson won with her Cactus Rose quilt. (Judy Neimeyer pattern)

Arlene Lawson won with her Tucks and Textures quilt.

Rookie of the Year

Congrats to Kathleen for getting Rookie of the year for the MQS 2011 show in Overland Park. Her quilt is Mimi and Me that has the animals and their babies.  Also in the show is the scrappy pineapple quilt that I didn't happen to get a picture of.  Congrats to Kathleen!

Meeting in June

Our LAST meeting before the quilt show.  Please bring enthusiasm and be ready to help volunteer during events and times that you are able to do so.

We want everyone to be included, so come up and help out. Yes

Don't forget items for the garage sale and don't forget to tell Deanna how many and what sizes quilts you are bringing to the show.

Quilt Show Sign Committee Sign Up

Contact Deanna as soon as possible if you want to be on the committee to plan the quilt show.  This would include what door prizes, quilt auction items, layout, and other quilt show decisions need to be made between now and the quilt show.

Quilt Show Committee meeting times will be flexible to the needs of who signs up.

Due to the snow meeting dates, there is only 3 meetings before the quilt show, which is to be held on friday & saturday, the 8th and 9th of July, with a thursday setup.  Location is tentatively the Eudora Middle School pending approval.  The board will decide if this is acceptable this week.

Next Month Meeting time CHANGED to 6:30

A motion was put on the floor to change the meeting time to 6:30 from 7:00 for the April meeting.

Those in attendance agreed that 6:30 would be manageable, so we will move the meeting time of the April meeting to 6:30 instead of 7.  For now, this is a trial meeting time, so if it doesn't work, we can move it back.

Set your alarms.  See you at 6:30 on April 12th

Bus Trip to See Amish Quilt Auction

Charlene is getting interest for those who may want to attend a Bus Trip on Saturday, October 8 to visit an area that holds an Amish Quilt Auction.  The trip would include a fabric shop and bakery.

Current cost is $65 for the bus and we would be expecting about 25 people to attend.  There is an option to have a $15 buffet.

Please contact Charlene if interested.

MQS on friday May 13th

Deanna has a sign up list for members who can help with the Machine Quilters Showcase on Friday, May 13th.

Volunteers need to help with white gloving during the event for a 2 hour shift, and in return, will be provided with that day's admission to the show.

Also volunteers are asked to 'man the booth' to display and sell tickets for our opportunity quilt.

We still need to fill a couple of slots for the day, and currently there is only one person signed up for each slot to man the booth, and company would be appreciated!

Machine Quilter's Showcase is held in Overland Park Convention Center on College Blvd just south of Interstate 435 near Metcalf.

February Meeting & Retreat Update

Our February meeting will be Tues. Feb. 8, at Quilting Bits & Pieces, where we will learn the "little foot" paper-piecing method for assembling the blocks for our Opportunity Quilt.  Bring sewing machines and supplies.  If you don't have the "little foot", a ¼" foot will work.

Retreat reminder – Day-trippers should contact Kathleen if they would like to attend any day Saturday (dinner) through Tuesday (lunch).   The cost is $10 per day, plus $10 per meal, plus tax.

Quilt Guild's Year End

The holiday dinner and gift exhange was a wonderful success.  Filled with food, friends, and laughter, we ended our 2010 year with a good note.

A tradition was started last year for the gift exhange which was carried out again this year.  We had a christmas story read by the most remarkable reader who kept giggling and pausing, and keeping us on the edge of our seats.  A good tradition of passing the gift in the story on a certain word, - the - had us listening to the story much differently than we would normally be doing, but it sure provided laughter, commentary, and joy for our gifts to be exchanged.

At the moment we are getting our opportunity quilt quilted for the drawing in July 2011, but tickets are already available at the local quilt shop near the corner of 8th and Main.  Pictures of the unquilted quilt (one close up of the embroidery) are on this site.  The quilt is monochromatic blues with embroidery and pieced blocks.

Plans are underway for the 2012 opportunity quilt to be started at the January meeting at the quilt shop.  Bring sewing machine with a little foot or a 1/4 foot and we'll learn a paper piecing technique!  Can't wait to see this quilt!

Tall Oaks Retreat

The tall oaks retreat is held in February.  In order to save a place there, the 60 dollar deposit is due by this coming October meeting.

Next year's retreat is held Saturday Feb 19 to Tuesday Feb 22, from about 4pm to 4pm.

Cost for attending the entire time is $210 for a triple room and $235 for a double room, which includes food and lodging for every day except the first day (or maybe that was lunch was on our own).

Coming for a time other than the entire length of the retreat, it will be prorated.  If interested, please e-mail Kathleene.
