Of Orchard Park, NY, passed away suddenly on April 23, 2013 in Mahtomedi, MN, at the age of 85. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Cecilia "Joanne" Ryll, dearest father of David (Ruth) of Centennial, CO, Barbara, Patrick (Lisa) of Tiverton, RI, Michael, and Carolyn (Danny) Clarkson of Mahtomedi, MN, and grandfather to Amanda, Ashley, Kai, Alexandra, Hunter, Kiana, and Kaya. Wally was also survived by his brother Arthur "Art" Ryll of BC, Canada, sister Vera (Walter) Marinic of Ontario, Canada, sister-in-law Sheila (Ken) Jones of Surrey, Wales, and many nieces and nephews.
Born April 6, 1928 in Alexandrowka, Wolyn, Poland, Wally emigrated in July on White Star S. S. Megantic at the age of 3 months with his parents, Michael and Bertha, and Aunt Helen to Quebec, Canada. (The ship's log noted that he could read and write... so a very brilliant baby.) Wally grew up in Wembley, Alberta, moving again in the 1940s to Leduc and Conrich, Alberta, and Vernon, British Columbia, and met his future wife, Joanne, from Vancouver, in Naramata, BC while they were both there for summer jobs. He received a Bachelors degree at the University of British Columbia, then was employed by Westinghouse in Ontario and loaned out to work in Quebec City, QC, where Joanne and he were married December 11, 1953. Wally obtained a Masters of Engineering in 1956 from the University of Toronto. In 1961, he settled with his wife and son in Western New York as a Senior Reliability Engineer at Cornell, Calspan, and Westinghouse and, briefly, as a professor at Buffalo State College. Wally remained a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in West Seneca until moving to Mahtomedi, MN at the end of December, 2012 to live with his daughter, Carolyn.
