Music Ministry - First Baptist Church, Pensacola - 1686 - Tour 2008 - Bayeux & Normandy

Singing at the American Cemetery in Normandy is always a humbling experience. Located at the top of the cliff leading down to Omaha Beach, the serenity of the place belies the fact that horrific acts took place here some 64 years ago as D-Day began the military crusade that was the turning point of WW II. Our students got a new appreciation for their freedom as they walked through the more than 9,000 grave markers here in this cemetery of some of those killed in this effort.

Following a devotion by Mike on Omaha Beach, our choir sang to a most appreciative audience in front of the Rising Youth Memorial. Phillip Robbins, who had a grandfather killed at Normandy, laid a wreath at the base of the monument following our concert, then we had a prayer time in which many of our folks participated, closing with the Lord's Prayer. After that, four of our group (Rachael Lee, Garrett Harwell, Phillip Robbins and Travis Hornsby) retired the colors. The first flag retired saw our choir encircle the flag and sing God Be with You Till We Meet Again; while the second flag was retired, Tim Gibbs played taps. A memorable day.
