Finding Sophia * Women Building Homes, Rebuilding Lives
Finding Sophia * Women Building Homes, Remodeling Lives
In Greek, Sophia means wisdom. Finding Sophia is a non-profit organization whose aim is to help needy families in the Tecate area of Mexico, just across the border from San Diego County. Fifteen women are on each trip and among other things, we build a home in one day. While doing so, the women who go on this trip seek and typically find wisdom that makes a difference in their lives.
At this time, we take two trips per year, one in March, the second in September. Other trips are available on request, as our goal is to continue to grow and serve the needy families in Tecate as well as the women who finish the weekend with newfound building skills, newfound friends and newfound confidence.
We find that most women who sign up have little or no building experience, and we love it that way (but skilled builders are most welcome as well). So don't let the fear of never having held a drill stop you! You will be amazed at what you can do! You don't need to speak Spanish as we have a beautiful translator, but it is always nice to have a few participants who do speak Spanish or are willing to give it a go!
The photos on this page are of different trips, but each trip has its own page for photos. If you are interested in going on a future trip (no building experience necessary), check out the links section below for the official website and get signed up! Know that trips do fill up quickly. The next scheduled trip is in September, 2011.
Be sure to check out the tab at the top of this page, Sophia Stories, if you are interested in reading about how others experienced the trip. There are other informational pages within this site, as well, so be sure to explore. You can drop down from the Home Page to access these pages....or you can click on the links in the Pages Section at the top right.
Wisdom awaits. Join us.
