Welcome to our site!
Friends of Akuffo Tom School Complex is dedicated to the support, improvement, expansion, and enrichment of education at the Akuffo Tom School Complex in Akropong-Akuapem, Eastern Region, Ghana, West Africa.
The complex is Pre-school through Junior High School with students ranging in age from three through sixteen. It is based on the British system of education and students are required to take examinations in English prepared by the West African Examination Council. The school follows the curriculum as set forth by the Ghana Education Department. The main campus is located near the bottom of a very steep hill.
Friends of Akuffo Tom School Complex raises money for the school. The organization is committed to paying the tuition for ten students (the parents are responsible for the feeding fee). This fee is collected three times a year. "Friends" has collected books and shipped them to Ghana. Libraries for both students and teachers have been established. Windows, doors, desks, tables, white boards, and instructional material are some of the items that have been provided to the school. Students have been taken on two field trips which included a visit to Kakum National Park with its rope canopy walk and to Cape Coast and Elmina slave castles. Most of the students had never been out of their town , had never seen the ocean nor been to a museum.
"Friends" has paid for the repair of the school bus and helped to replace wood clapboard primary classrooms with a two story concrete building. There is no electricity or running water on the main campus.
We encourage you to use this site to learn more about our organization and to view pictures showing some of the things that we have accomplished over the years.
