Nutrition and Parenting Educator Mariellen Woodward-DeFelice will teach the following classes: Anger in the Family, Responsibility and Your Children, Disciplining Your Children, Setting Limits and Expectations, Winning Ways to Talk with Kids, and Family Enrichment.

Food, Land & People is a nonprofit organization committed to helping people of all ages better understand the interrelationships among agriculture, the environment, and people of the world.
Food, Land & People’s science and social sciences-based curriculum currently serves Pre-K to 12 grade students throughout the United States. The curriculum consists of 55 hands-on lessons, developed and tested by more than a thousand educators and has been aligned to NYS Learning Standards.
The subjects range from environmental science and stewardship to human populations and land use issues. 20 of the lessons are available in Spanish. FLP’s mission is to develop citizens literate about the relationships between agriculture, the environment and human populations.
Attendees at the workshop you will receive: Food, Land and Peoples Resources for Learning CD-Rom (includes all 55 lessons), Various NY Ag in the Classroom Materials including lesson plans, book lists, brochures, etc., Resources aligned to NYS Learning Standards, You will receive 6 hours of professional development credits and a participation certificate, and a fun filled day at Watt Farms Country Market (includes lunch and a tour of the farm via train)

Eat Smart Classes for TOPS Supermarket Shoppers. CCE's Nutrition Educators and Tops Market in Batavia have once again teamed up to promote the Eat Smart New York! program (ESNY). An informational display is located at Tops Market in Batavia in the produce section.
The ESNY program offers free nutrition education by Nutrition Educators of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County. The program consists of eight fun and informative lessons - FREE! Participants will learn ways to stretch their food dollars as well as gain the knowledge and skills to make healthy food choices. Many different scheduling options are available-times and locations convenient to the participants. Interested? Stop by the display at Tops in Batavia and fill out an information card. A Nutrition Educator from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County will in contact you to set up an appointment.
Through November local and healthful meals that families can prepare and enjoy together will be featured as a “Meal of the Month”. Recipes have been chosen to emphasize kid-friendly foods that take advantage of fruits and vegetables in season.
Each Friday Extension’s Nutrition Educators are at the Farmers’ Market located in the Batavia Downs Parking Lot on Park Road, with samples of local produce, to answer questions and distribute recipes for the featured Meal of the Month. Be sure to stop by and ask for one of the colorful refrigerator magnets that remind families to Eat3 - Eat Well, Eat Local and Eat Together.

How much sugar are you drinking everyday? This session stresses the importance of watching the amount of sugar contained in a variety of beverages. Hands-on, visualt displays will show you exactly how much sugar is contained in common drink choices like soda pop, energy drinks, milk and juice.
Food Safety
How do you safely defrost a turkey? Can you keep leftovers at the summer picnic all day? Cooking foods at the proper temperature and refrigerating within the temperature safety zone are critical to prevent food borne illness. Learn how to ensure a food safe kitchen by learning about proper hand washing techniques, cleaning cooking surfaces properly and proper temperature zones.
Preparing Healthy Snacks and Desserts
Everyone loves snacks and desserts so how about learning ways to make them more nutritious and healthful? Proper nutrition as well as good taste is important when preparing a snack or dessert. Learn how to combine a variety of ingredients including fresh fruit, granola, yogurt and milk to produce a tasty treat that will provide the energy that will make you feel your very best.
Body Image/Self-Esteem
Many individuals struggle with self esteem issues and it can effect every part of their lives. In this session, learn the importance of stressing the positives about oneself through affirmative self-talk, providing compliments to others and oneself. Understand how to nourish your body properly, feel and look your best and have optimal energy.
Bone Health
Understand the importance of consuming adequate amounts of calcium, vitamin D and phosphorous as well as daily weight bearing exercise to strengthen your bones. Learn how to obtain these valuable nutrients by consuming certain foods and beverages regularly.
