If I asked you who had the meekest voice in the room, how would you respond? Well, as a mother of a 5 and 2 year-old, I would not typically say the answer was “THE CHILDREN.” However, in today’s society, children are the most vulnerable and cannot advocate for themselves. So many children will be hungry for longer than they should, waiting for their next meal. Healthcare needs are not a priority for a child, and choosing a healthy lifestyle early in life isn’t that important when the new video game is coming out this week! These are a few of the reasons why GFWC members should participate in an event that make a life better for a child.
The Goal for the GFWC Juniors Special Project, Advocates for Children is simple: Children in society are protected from harmful situations and encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles, both physically and emotionally. The Objectives are to increase GFWC members’ awareness of the issues affecting children in society today, and to impact those policies that affect our children.
Let your Clubwomen empower you to speak for a child that cannot be heard. Educate yourself & your club, inform others, and partner with other organizations to gain awareness. Even First Lady, Michelle Obama, is getting into the act by introducing the “Let’s Move!” campaign to combat the epidemic of childhood obesity. Visit her website at www.letsmove.gov. Also take a look www.gfwc.org and check out the Juniors Special Project site to get ideas for your club.
This is a Project that should be Special for you and your club. I am honored to have been asked to coordinate this year’s collection of all the good that you will do as your Club becomes Advocates for Children.
