Got Art?
I am extremely honored and excited to have the opportunity to serve the GFWC West Virginia Junior Department as your Arts Chairman. I love art and truly believe that everyone, and I mean everyone, can benefit through the world of art. Art plays an important part in our lives…period!
Art is the process of deliberately arranging elements in a way to affect the senses or emotions. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, theater, film, sculpture, and paintings. It allows us to express those unconscious basic instincts that are integral to being human; express our basic human instinct for harmony, balance, and rhythm; experience the mysterious; and express the imagination. It also allows for meaningful direct action on the part of an artist or creator. Art is vital in ways we may not even conceive. Got Art?
GFWC has developed an outstanding Arts Community Service Program which I encourage you to use as seeds of inspiration as you outline your year as Club Arts Chairmen. http://www.gfwc.org/gfwc/Club_Manual.asp?SnID=1250518782
The GFWC Program has 2 goals:
Goal 1. Create and contribute to arts
education and activities in their communities.
Goal 2. Engage GFWC members in developing
and enjoying creative arts as a method of self-expression
It is my wish, in conjunction with the goals and objectives outlined in the GFWC Arts Community Service Program, that WV Juniors make a special effort to connect with the youth in their communities. It is proven that school children who are exposed to art score higher in math and science. It is critical to nurture children’s natural love of art. Assist with or instigate an art project in your children’s classroom, help with your church’s youth play, donate art supplies to a local after school program or finger-paint with your children on a rainy afternoon. Got art?
As another means of encouraging art endeavors in our youth, we will be revamping the GFWC WV Junior Department Pennies for Arts Contest. More details to come soon and keep collecting those pennies (and nickel, dimes, quarters and greenbacks)!!!! If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me – cindy@claysrunranch.com or 304.335.0511.
