American Girl’s .....Hands-On History/Writing @ The Homeschool House
For Girls 8 years and up and their dolls
History comes alive when seen through the eyes of American Girls. This unique approach to history combines fact and fiction through hands-on activities, stories and discussion. This year we will begin in 1914 with Rebecca, a Russian-Jewish immigrant, followed by Kit’s story of the Great Depression, Molly’s experience in WWII and Julie’s life in the 70’s. We will end the year by developing our own unit about the American girls of today.
Each week the girls bring their dolls and I bring a car full of American Girl clothes, accessories and furniture. This year, in addition to experiencing the food, pastimes, clothes and crafts of days gone-by, a writing component will be included.
Rebecca (1914) Moving to America
Kit (1934) Disheartened in America
Molly (1944) Protecting America
Julie (1974) Celebrating America
American Girls of Today (2011) The students and I will develop this unit.
