The Opera House on a beautiful day
Sydney had been experiencing an unusually wet and cool summer, so my picture-perfect day with sunshine and warm temperatures was a real treat.

Sydney Harbor Bridge
Another Sydney iconic image and site of one of the greatest fireworks displays ever during the Sydney Olypics

Sydney Opera House, take 2
What can I say - a beautiful piece of architectural design!

Opera House, take 2
Seeing this in person makes you realize even the best photo doesn't do it justice.

My Bure Hammock - nice place to chill out
I was fortunate to get a beachfront bure and this was a spot I loved to hang out and read...

My beachfront bure
The Fijian's call these dwellings "bures" (pronounced "boo-ray") and the unit I had came complete with a small pool that was great for cooling off or washing the salt water off my wet suit - a daily ritual after the dives.

The Garden Bure area
These units were called Garden Bure's and were on this beautiful lily pad pond.

Beqa Lagoon Resort
A beautiful dive resort located on the island of Beqa ("benga"), just south of the main island of Fiji (Viti Levu.)

The dive boat
Two of our dive team's senior members Bob and Frank. These guys are an inspiration, diving into their 70's - keep it up boys!

Cool underwater coral
One of the reasons I love diving is the amazing underwater coral - Fiji is known as the soft-coral capital of the world and some of them are like sea fans, flowing in the current...

A huge sea cucumber
One of the dive masters holding what is called a sea cucumber - amazing...

Soft coral
So beautiful to watch moving with the current...

Blue ribbon eel
Unlike Moray eels, these blue ribbon eels are tiny and amazingly colored

A sunk Japanese Fishing Boat
Ships are often sunk deliberately to encourage reef growth and this ship was sunk for that same reason. Unfortunately, it turned upside down when it sunk!

Fire Walking
Beqa Island is thought to be the birthplace of fire walking and we were treated to a display. Amazing to see...

An almost black and white sunset
Even though this sunset lacked the color of other sunsets we saw, I loved the image nonetheless - the calm water and cool cloud formations were great.

Coconut delight
I was told by several people to drink a funny tropical drink with an umbrella in it and this was the closest I could get - this delicious concoction had coconut milk, 2 kinds of rum and Bailey's - yumm and yikes (kicked my butt!)

A nice place to watch a sunset
I forgot my camera the first night we had a spectacular sunset - wouldn't make that mistake again!

Mother Nature at work
Can you see the image of the sea horse in the foreground? Amazingly, it wasn't deliberately carved that way - just mother nature at work...
