Update!

I can't believe how quickly the time goes!  Our little girl Ada is already almost two months old and Russell gets bigger and bigger everyday.  I wish I could freeze time and just be the mommy of these two crazy little children -just as they are right now- forever!  Russell has soo much energy he wears us out and is still running circles around us when his bedtime rolls around.  He says things all the time that make us giggle.  He loves being a big brother and is a BIG help with Ada ;)  He's learning his letters, is potty trained and spends his days talking our ears off!!  Ada gets bigger and bigger everytime I turn my back... it's been so nice to have a baby in the house again and already we can't imagine our family without her!  She's had her challenging moments- like when she broke out in hives and we found out she was allergic to dairy and (gulp) Chocolate (how can i go on???) and when she had minor surgery on her big toe- poor thing!  But overall she's been a well behaved baby and such a joy in our lives.  Ed's been busy with some classes he's taking at work and I have been thoroughly enjoying my maternity leave!!  Ed's been working hard in the yard and we even planted a garden this year (wish us luck- we have NO idea what we're doing!)  I'm supposed to go back to work Monday, but it seems for the time being I'm semi unemployed- EEK, so we're officially holding our breath and pinching our pennies!  We'll keep you posted.. or at least try to :)

Easter

We couldn't believe our luck with the easter egg hunts this year!  We woke up early and hurried off the Founders Park for the Syracuse Easter Egg hunt, we left a little late- arrived at 9:02 (it was supposed to start at 9:00) and missed THE WHOLE DARN THING!!  Not one easter egg left!! and a line a mile long to take a picture with the easter bunny.  We decided to cut our losses and head over to the Antelope Island Easter Egg hunt that started at 10:00- this one was supposed to have a hunt, prizes, bean bag toss, fish game, face painting and of course all the sights that come with Antelope Island.  Even though we headed straight there, us and about 10 other cars got stuck behind a ranger going 20 mph and you guessed it- missed the WHOLE DARN THING- AGAIN!!  Luckily some people threw back a few eggs so for $9 Russ ended up with about 6 pieces of hard candy- not exactly ideal candy for a 2 year old!  We waited in line at the fish pond- we were excited by some of the neat prizes they were giving out- hot wheels, google glasses, helicopters- Russell got a pocket sized notebook.  Even though the weather was freezing we were determined to get our nine dollars worth.  So we stuck around to see the sights- Russell even got to pet a horse which he thought was pretty neat and all in all at the end of the day he left with a red nose and a big smile!  Tomorrow brings lots more Easter festivities for us and we can't wait :)

Potty Training!!!

It took a bag full of candy, some Thomas the train dvds, underwear and lots of trips to the dollar store but I think it's officially safe to say that Russell has mastered potty training!  Hooray!!  He took to the pee thing pretty good but for some reason poop was a whole different story.  He still cries when he needs to poop and says "no.. i don't like it!" But at least it's in the potty!  We'll take it!  He even wakes us up in the middle of the night to let us know he has to pee and he loves sitting on his football potty or standing and peeing like dad- he thinks this is especially cool because it makes bubbles in the potty water- neat stuff for a 2 1/2 year old!  And now anytime mommy or daddy goes potty he makes a big deal of telling us what a good job we have done :) It always feels nice to get praise from a toddler.  In fact just the other day he looked at me in the store and said "Mommy, you are looking soooo good today."  I couldn't help but smile and blush- even if he doesn't know what he's talking about, it sure is nice to hear!  My belly gets bigger and bigger with this little girl bouncing away in there.  If one more person tells me I look like I'm about to pop I think I'll scream- yes my tummy is big- yes it looks like I have a basketball hidden under my shirt and YES i STILL have over a month left!!

It's a girl!!

So today we had our big ultrasound and it's official- this baby is DEFINITELY A GIRL!!  A modest thing, it took some poking and prying to get a good look but it was all girl.  We got some really good shots of her face and her feet and her hands and just about everything in between!  She had her legs crossed and her hands behind her head for most of the shots- just in there chilling.  When the ultrasonographer would stay in the same spot for too long- our little girl would give a big kick to let everyone know her space was being invaded.... looks like we got a feisty one!  Russell was so excited the whole time, he loves to see pictures of the baby in mommy's tummy and kept requesting that we get to hear the heart beat.  According to the doctor everything looks good and healthy so just 3 and 1/2 months until our little girl's here! (Not that we're counting!)  My belly's jumping all over the place and growing bigger and bigger everyday.  Won't be too much longer and I won't be able to see my toes!

We just finished russell volume II the journey continues.

Its not much new content, but its somthing, its at the bottom of this blog....

Washington DC

Lots has happened in the past month!  We've been so busy just keeping up with everything.  First we had our trip to Washington DC for sightseeing and visiting with Nicole and Leland.  We flew stand-by (thanks to Shae and Zach) and made our first flight- we even got to sit together, thank goodness because we brough Russell and it took the two of us to keep him entertained!  We brought toys and books and candy and cartoons and finally had to resort to the Benadryl!  The flight was an extra 45 min because they had to fly around a storm- which made things all the more challenging but we made it to DC where Nicole and Acadia were waiting for us.

We got an early start to our vacation by heading out the first night to see the monuments.  Russ loved the Metro- he called it a choo-choo train and it was quite possibly his favorite part of the entire vacation.  So we saw:  the Vietnam memorial, the world war II memorial and the Washington memorial.  We could see the capitol building too but before we could get very close the weather took a turn for the worse and so we started heading back.  Luckily Nicole had packed the umbrellas and we huddled underneath them as the rain flooded the streets!  I couldn't believe how heavy the rain was and how lucky we were to have umbrellas!  i think we were all grateful to get home that first night.

The next morning we took the metro to the Natural History museum.  There was so much to see and it was all really neat- We could have spent the entire week just in that museum and still had stuff to learn!  They had exhibits on evolution, dinosaurs and even the bones of a giant sloth!  There was an ocean exibit and bugs and sooo much  more!  We were probably there for just over 3 hours and somehow we still missed the giant squid!.

After that Russ took a nap on Ed's back and we set out to Arlington cemetary to see the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier- ok so I had no idea that there's a tomb (yes, of an unknown soldier) and it's guarded 24 hours a day, the guards change every 1/2 hour during the summer and ever hour during the winter.  They have this whole choreographed symbolic ritual they do to honor the dead.  Yes, interesting.  We got lost on our way back ( that cemetary is huge!)  but we saw a deer which was pretty neat and kind of worth going of the beaten path for.  After carrying our toddler around all day we were exhausted!!  We ordered in at Nic and Leland's house and then went straight to bed.

The next day we went to visit Leland who works AT the Pentagon- yes really AT THE PENTAGON.  Super cool.  He has special clearance for working there so he took us on our own private tour.  Also, super cool.  The hallways in the Pentagon are just like being in a museum they have all kinds of exhibits and information and it's way too much to take in all at once.  While we were there we saw the Pentagon Memorial and Leland told us that on the day the airplane hit the pentagon there were people inside the pentagon that didn't even know what had happened- that's why Leland gets to watch CNN while he's at work.  He keeps informed.

Then we were off the spy museum- neat, but pricey and awfully challenging with a toddler.  We learned a lot about- well, spying and sabotaging and role it's played in history.  On the way back we walked by Ford's Theatre where Lincoln was shot and saw the jacket he was wearing the night of the assassination.  Then walked across the street to the place where Lincoln was brought and finally died (ok so the bullet was 6 inches into his brain and he lived until the next morning- sounds like a pretty miserable death!)

After carrying Russ for 3 days we were sore every- we bought a stroller (actually Nic and Leland bought a stroller)- how I love umbrella strollers.  The next morning we had some famous blueberry pancakes at somewhere (I'll have to ask Nicole...), got our pics taken and Ed bought me a necklace to remember our trip and Russ a toy.  Then we went to the national zoo to see the animals.  Russ, of course lvoed it.  Except for the big spider, he said "I don't like it dady, it's scary."  And he was right- smart kid.  On what we thought was going to be the final day of our vacation we went to the Holocause museum.  Terrible things to see there, sad and shocking.

We didn't make the flight home so had an unexpected extra day added to our vacation :)  With so many things still to see it was hard to choose how to spend our day.  We ended up at the American history museum and saw THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER- not the song- the actual flag.  We also learned more about the history of America and presidents and wars.  Russ loved the trucks, the diesel and the train.  The next thing we knew we were on the long flight home!!

Hawaii

Hooray we made it to Hawaii and it was such a blast!!  Russ stayed home with Ed's parents so it was just me and Ed, Shae and Zach and Zach's buddy Davy.  Every morning we would wake up at 7 or 8 ( I know what you're all thinking- "mindy- wake up early???!!! but remember this is about 10 or 11 o clock "utah time!")  Anyway, we would wake up and head out to the beach and go snorkeling.  The fish and the coral were beautiful and the water was clear and usually pretty calm.  It was so relaxing and beautiful and just thinking about it makes me want to go back.  Because it was so early there wasn't many other people out there so it felt like we had the whole ocean to ourselves.  Then we would head back to the condo and sit in the hot tub and relax then get ready for the day and out to lunch where the fish was absolutely amazing and Ed still can't stop talking about how fabulous the Kalamari was (that's squid- not a nudie beach like Aunt Melanie thought!)  We went to the aquarium and to Lahaina and went boogey boarding in the evenings which was really fun and almost made me want to learn to surf.  We went to Warren and Annabelle's magic show and me and Ed were one of the volunteer couples.  It was such a blast and we laughed and laughed until our sides were sore and our eyes were tearing :)  Oh my gosh- so much fun!!!  There wasn't a part of our vacation that we would change it was so much fun!!

Easter

I wrote out this whole post then accidentally deleted the whole thing when i meant to post it.  I was so disheartened by the whole thing that I've only just now gotten back to writing about Easter!  We celebrated Easter first on Saturday at the annual "Elliott Easter Egg Hunt."  Grandma Melva makes everyone search for their Easter Eggs and as I've learned the only thing that gets you out of it is having a kid of your own.  So this year it was my turn to hide the eggs and help Russell find them.  I was so excited to see Russell gather up his eggs and candy, but unfortunately he found his bag of chips first thing, plopped himself down right away and ate the entire bag!!  Like mommy like son I guess!  I gathered up the rest of his candy and eggs for him and he stuffed himself on chips and junk.  Since Ed had to work on Easter we celebrated it the day after Easter.  The Easter bunny made a basket for Ed, Me and for Russell.  There was a trail of eggs from Russell's room to his easter basket.  He was so excited when we woke him up and told hime the Easter Bunny had come ( even though I'm pretty sure he had no idea what we were talking about!)  The trail of Easter Eggs had the traditional looking Easter Eggs, football shaped Easter Eggs and Soccer shaped Easter Eggs.  Russell picked up all the football eggs, then all the soccer eggs and finally all the traditional eggs so he didn't exactly follow the eggs to his easter basket- but it did make us laugh!  In his basket was a coloring book and crayons and more books and bubbles and trucks and cards and bugs and of course- lots of candy!  We had to point out the other eggs hidden in the room once he found his basket but it was lots of fun to have a toddler at Easter this year!!
