What level of quality of camera, in mega pixels (mp), should I use to get good results?
You should be shooting with at least a 4 megapixel (mp) camera, set to the highest quality level, to get the best results for prints in the book or slide show.
If I take a photograph of someone, do I need their permission to use their picture for the photo project?
Yes you do. You need to download the Model Release form listed under the "Forms" section of this website. Fill in the appropriate information and submit the form with your image of that person.
How would you know that I took the photograph on June 13th?
Almost all digital cameras put a time and date on each file name.
How many images can I submit to the project?
You may submit a maximum of 3 images. All images must be submitted on a CD.
If my 3 images qualify for inclusion in the book, will all 3 be accepted for printing in the book?
No. Only one qualifying image per photographer will be included in the book. So please rank your images 1,2,3 from most favorite to least favorite on the entry form.
Will my images be cropped or resized when you edit for the book and slideshow?
There may be some minimal cropping to fit a particular layout, but our intentions are to keep the original composition intact.
Will I get a photo credit in any publication?
You bet! Your name, image title and location will be included.
Where should I drop off my CD and Entry form?
You can drop off your materials at the Goffstown Main Street Program office on Sunday June 14th or Saturday June 20th from 11am to 1pm. The address is 7 Main St, Goffstown, NH.
How do I get to the Goffstown Main Street Program office?
Will I definitely get one of my photographs published in the project's book?
Unfortunately no. However, all of your submitted images will be included in a comprehsive slideshow that will be shown on this website, future town fesivals, civic meetings and possibly Goffstown TV. See the Q&A that discusses judging criteria for the book, on this page.
What are the judging criteria for having one of my images included in the project book?
Editorial screening may include review of subject, composition, sharpness, meeting submission criteria and balance of content for the book. The number of images included in the book will be determined by the number of pages in the book, the finished size and layout of the images and the eventual cost of producing the book.
Can I use Photoshop or other editing software on my images?
Yes you can. But try to keep the image true to its original form as possible.
What are some suggestions for what I can photograph in Goffstown?
The tag line for this project is "Photographing the people, places and things that make our community great". With that said, town landmarks, interesting things or objects and PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PEOPLE. You can photograph your grandmother making your favorite pie, to someone getting a haircut at a local salon or the kids at the skateboard park.
Try to photograph your subjects at different times of the day. Lighting is a key aspect in adding an interesting element to your images.

You can download them directly from this website. They are listed in the "Forms" section on the Home page. Entry forms will also be available at the Goffstown Main Street Program office and at our booth at Old Home Day on June 6th.

What will the book look like?
See an example of of a photobook listed under "Photo Books" section on the Home Page. The size, layout and format might be a little different, but it gives you an idea of what to expect.
What if I shoot in film? Can I still participate in the photo project?
Yes you can. The only thing you need to do is have your negatives transfered to a CD before you submit your images to the project. Most labs and retail drugstore chains and Walmart can do this for you.
