8:30-10:30 - We move to the Parish hall for a coffeehouse CONCERT with the Batiste Brothers - If you haven't heard them your in for a real treat (www.batistebrothers.com) There newest album's title track is "Fishers of MEN!" No coincidence there! God is so Good!
We'll be serving beverages and desserts - $5 suggested donation at the door ($20 max for a family)
All are welcomed - all ages! Don't come alone! Make a list of your friends and family that are no longer participating inthe sacraments or the fullness of the Catholic Church and bring them along!
Often people have asked who are target audiance is - simply stated - our primary focus is on inviting Catholics who are no longer in our pews (or rarely) to a first step home to the fullness of the faith. When someone moves away from regular attendance at mass or away from the sacraments, its really hard to just say - we'll come back to mass with me when they might not fully understand the beauty and depth of the mass so Go FISH is dedicated to providing events and opportunities that is that BRIDGE to reconnect our friends and family back into a loving community and ultimately to a parish home!
Secondarily, our target is to evangelize ourselves and encourage each other to go one step deeper in our own faith.
Evangelization is a two way street where everyone is called to one step deeper wherever they are in their faith journey.
There are plenty of Catholics who need reconnecting but of course we are welcoming anyone who is looking for a church home and a loving community to put out into the deep of the vast ocean of mercy available in the Catholic Church.
EVERYONE knows someone or many who have left so CARPE Diem - Seize the moment and invite them to one of our events - specifically - invite them March 6th to Catholic Underground - Here's what you say:
Hey my friend is organizing this cool coffeehouse cafe concert called Catholic Underground on Sat night March 6th - Will you go with me and check it out? Meet me there at 7:30 in the church for a beautiful experience with Jesus in the blessed Sacrament or at the concert and coffeehouse from 8:30 - 10:30. These two brothers from Atlanta are providing the music - kind of a jazzy, Christian sound! Its for all ages but they are hoping to get hundreds of twenty somethings there! Will you come - check out their facebook event page at go fish outreach.
Here's the background info for anyone who wants to read it! About July 2008, I felt God calling me to, "Gather My People and PREPARE them to hear my voice!" Now I don't generally "hear" God so it was more like a constant urging and my spirit kept coming back to that sentence. Ok God - Any thoughts on how to do that? He asked me to be silent and get to daily mass and adoration more and He'd tell me....He also seem to indicate that there was an urgency to this and Ihad about 5 years before He was going to say something VERY Loud! Ok - so I prayed and listened ..and researched and read...and prayed and talked to spiritual people that I trusted - Thank God for Lisa Fiamingo, Dave Sloan and Fr Tim Hepburn as they journeyed with me through this. Then finally around August 15, 2009, God said it's time to act - Still no clear direction but I knew it was time to move! You can steer a moving car easier than one sitting still!
So starting August 15th - I started setting up meetings and phone calls with people - about 5-6 people a week and expressed my desire to gather God's people - especially those away from the sacraments or those of us that had gotten so busy, we were not in a place where we could hear God very well - and encourage them/us to be quiet - get ina state of grace and listen to what God was saying to them personally. I didn't even feel that I had to say anything - just gather people - and get them to go deeper - wherever they were at spiritually - one step deeper!
I started reading alot about Pope John Paul II New Evangelization and researched what other dioceses and faiths were doing to fullfill the great commission and decided to start Go FISH - Go Forht and Invite Someone Home - Home being the fullness of the Catholic Church. That means gathering and reaching out the the Catholics in the pews to better understand our call to evangelize with our lives and mouths and provide a place where Catholics who have left the fullness of the faih - is not at mass very often anymore - to come home in a less intimadating environment.
EVERYONE I talked to had a piece of the puzzle - everyone felt the same urgency and desire to evangelize and reach out to bring people to Christ. So many kindred spirits - so many people saying yes - I want to help and be a part of this initiative. Let's go out a "get the one that got away!" But HOW?
I still don't know but I knew I needed to move forward and start trying and gathering people together so we could figure it out!
How do we equipp and train Catholics in the pews to reach out to INVITE and welcome our friends and family to reach back in to the Catholic Church and "give us another try!"
So I put out an invitation to come to hear more at a gathering on Dec. 14, 2009 - Of course it was horrible weather and so cloudy and foggy - crazy night - but over 65 people came - from over 13 different parishes and several different organizations. So much passion and talent in the room and yet God had still not told me what to do so I got in front of the room and said that.
Not sure what God is calling us to but lets "Cast out our Nets" - Let' build a net (us) and then throw out some Bait (Cool events) and see if we can catch some fish and reel em home!
Ok - Save the date for March 6th and let's take a successful program that's sweeping the nation - Catholic Underground and bring it here! I had been talking to the organizers of CU for months and had some local support from some of my most respected friends (Keri Allen, Fr Neil Dhabliwala, FR Dan Ketter, Fr Tim Hepburn, Dave Sloan, Lisa Wheeler and LisaFiamingo). So let's go fishing!
Still not sure of everything but here's the deal - Saturday March 6th at CTK - Christ the King from 7:30 - 10:30pm we are hosting Catholic Underground - The Batiste Brothers (www.batistemusic.com) are playing music for us. The first hour is an amazingly beautiful adoration hour from 7:30 -8:30 and then afterwards there is a coffeehouse cafe atmosphere in the Parish Hall to hang out - listen to music and meet new friends - the night ends with night prayers in the sanctuary and anyone who wants to take our left over food to the homeless can do that as well....
Bring a friend...or two or three and DON"T COME ALONE!!! More details later
