Hi,

Just a quick update as we approach the fall season.

Thanks to everyone for participating in the oregon trip. I thought it was very successful on several accounts. Firstly because we competed very well against a college level team with a much bigger roster and of course much more experience. More significantly however, was the way in which the girls came together, which was reflected last week at practice, where many the players commented that it was the most enjoyable practices of the season! While our overall fitness is improving the gulf in fitness levels between the top and the bottom are too big...we have a fitness goal we must meet by the end of September, currently there are 5 players who have reached this benchmark. Relying on two soccer practices a week will not get you there, players must be accountable to condition on their own outwith soccer.

As we prepare for the busy fall season we have two scrimmages this week during our regular practice times, however we will meet at 7pm for a 7.30pm kick off

Tuesday 24th v San Juan Blue...this is the former National Champion winning team so obviously a good test

Thursday 26th v Inter-Rage Academy

Marilyn will let the girls what to wear etc....be sure to have Shinguards and adequate amounts of water.

A few people may be wondering why we are not doing a tournament in September. As you can see from our schedule we are busy with league almost every weekend, and I think it is important we get adequate rest when we are not playing. We have a tournament every month from oct until the end of the season, so one month without a tourney will not kill us, it will also save $$$ as the only worthwhile tourneys in september are in So Cal. If however, you really want to play one of the september tournament weekends please let me know and I will facilitate guest playing.

Thank You

I just wanted to thank everyone who has contributed in getting the season off to such a positive start. Prior to me taking the team I had heard how special this group was in terms of parent involvement (in a positive sense) and I can see why. Everything from Marilyn's managerial skills, to those who organized the teams functions etc etc It was also refreshing that everyone was able to 'keep their cool' despite some really harsh referring decisions, particularly in the last game. Overall I was impressed with the positive encouragement and 'lack of' coaching from the sides....long may it continue!!

Moreover, I was really impressed with the players attitudes, punctuality and respect they showed to both myself and andres. It seems as though we have a very 'coachable' group. Naturally there are a lot of things we can work on, most notably, sharpness (fitness) and our ability to compete in the air, which is a key component of the game at the upper end of youth soccer and within college. With this said we will be working hard the nest few weeks at practice to set targets and goals to improve in each of these area's.

Our next tournament is Regional's in Modesto. As I mentioned at the initial meeting this is the one tournament that both Andres and I have conflicts that were established prior to us taking this team. Andres is taking his National Coach License Course which is residential and I am back in Scotland for a wedding. Ashley will be in charge of the girls this weekend, an obvious choice since he knows them so well and also got to watch the new players for 3 games this weekend.

2010-11 Davis Legacy '94 SHOCK

Parents and Players,

Per the recent offer that was made and accepted, both myself and co-coach Andreas would like to give everyone a warm welcome to Davis Legacy Shock. Attached is the roster for the 2010-2011 team. We are confident that we have the strength and depth in our roster that will push each player to reach their maximum potential and subsequently allow us to grow and develop as a team.

As I mentioned to the girls, we are not planning on getting started until after high school season. Since quite a few are playing varsity we will wait until the sectional finals are over on 4/22, so that our first team practice does not pose any conflicts and everyone can attend. Our first practice will take place on be4/25th from 7.30pm-9pm This will be our regular practice time slot based on coach and field availability (the days for practice will be tuesdays and thursdays) We have our first tournament, the San Francisco cup the same weekend we start practice, from the 29th-31st of May (memorial day weekend)

We will have an informational meeting prior to this which will take place on Monday the 12th of April 7.30pm at Roundtable Pizza in Davis. We looked through all High school schedules and there does not appear to be any soccer conflicts with this date and time. Hello Shock fans,

I am attaching the league and the tournament schedule for the remainder of the season. Our January and Feb tournaments are still being decided but we will play in one each mont. Our first game will be this weekend Saturday, August 28 at 3 pm vs Cap FC at Mather field. At the bottom of the schedule is a list of the AWAY fields as well as direction. Robbo will be sending out an update early this week. Be on the lookout!!

Practice Starts Tuesday May 25th

Hello Shock Fans,
Just a few things as the season is gearing up...
Practice will begin next Tuesday from 7:30-9 at DYSL. This gives all HS players a chance to get through sections this week.

Practice jerseys are in and if players arrive 15 minutes early next Tuesday we can get them distributed. They look great.

Fitness Garage is back by popular demand on Mondays from 5-6pm for any Shock player who wants some extra team fitness. This is a completely optional program run through the Fitness Garage in Davis. It is 1 hour of core training and the 5pm-6pm slot on Mondays is for Davis Shock girls. Shockingly, it was the girls who asked to get it back as soon as high school season ended. The Fitness Garage asks for a commitment from the team to at least have 7-8 girls participate as we get a considerably lower rate than advertised. The charge is $40/month for a 1 hour session each Monday. If you can't make the Monday session on an occasional week you are free to make it up on any other day of the week. They do ask for a weekly commitment to keep the slot open for the team. You can see more on the website at www.fitnessgarage.us

Don't forget we start right out of the gate with our first tournament next weekend (Memorial Day) with the SF Cup. GO SHOCK

Hello Shock Fans,

Hope everyone is doing well and having fun finishing up High School soccer. We have just a few weeks left before Shock gets under way. I know that Jonna and Ted are working on the hotel arrangements for the SF CUP and our practice jerseys are here and will be handed out at the first practice.

I got a message from Dennis Hendricks, Danielle's dad and he let me know that:

Danielle and Hannah will be attending the Sonoma State Soccer Identification clinic on May 15th, I wonder if any of the other girls our going or want to go its from 9 to 12:30 at the college, fee is 50$ before May 12, you can pull it up on the college website for the full information. The info is below.

Sonoma State Women's Soccer will be holding a Player Identification Clinic on Saturday, May 15th.
9:00 am to 12:30 pm. This camp will be directed by Luke Oberkirch and his
staff, including, David Shaffer, Shannon Percell, Chris Parman-GK Coach

2010-11 Davis Legacy '94 SHOCK

So my first duty with our new Davis Legacy '94 SHOCK team is to welcome all of our returning families and players and all of our newcomers. We are really excited about SHOCK this year! Next I get to interpret Scottish for David :)

There were a few things that David and Andres would like to correct:

The team will begin practice 5/25 (MAY, not April) after section finals on May 22. We also would like to get all emails from the new families for our roster. Many of you may have a preferable email or would like several listed. We will have a list serv for the SHOCK and you will receive several emails a week for most of the year. The team meeting is Monday April 12. As the date approaches, I will be sending out directions as well as taking orders for pizza. We will talk about uniforms for new players at that meeting as well as team fees and budget.

I am also attaching the Bruce Maxwell Scholarship applications in English and Spanish to this email. The league is asking for these to be returned as soon as possible. IF you are considering applying, please know that the process is anonymous and the scholarships are partial scholarships. All decisions will be made before we begin our practices in MAY. Also for any new families my cell number is (916) 947-0126 if you have any questions prior to the team meeting.
