Caitrin is beginning her heat cycle and I do plan to breed her to Gavin (Angus X Peruvian Lassie).   There is much interest in these puppies and if everyone on my wait list is serious, then I have 3 litters spoken for for 3 years out.  If the breeding is successful and when the puppies are born, I will contact people in order on the list.  If you have expressed interest in previous years but not officially asked to be on my wait list, then you may not be on my list.

Today (April 15, 2011) Caitrin had her puppies.  Six of them!  3 tricolors, 3 sables.  One of the tricolors is a girl, the rest are all boys!

Tricolor girl, the only girl, is definitely spoken for.  Another pup is spoken for but not chosen.  There are more people wanting a pup, than there are puppies to go around.  If you are one of those people, please be patient as I see if those people first in line ahead of you, contact me and send in their deposits.  As I get the deposits in hand, I will know how many pups, if any, are available.

The puppies are beautiful!  As I get a chance, I will post pictures so keep checking here in the weeks ahead.

I just found this site, haven't tried any of their products, but would be very interested if someone decides to try it and if it works.  We don't personally have much of a tick problem here, but many of you live in tick-infested areas.  Of course this isn't helpful if you are just traveling or hiking, but it's maybe worth a try?

Some of you know that I had been hoping for a second litter from Peruvian Lassie before her owners leave the country again.  Sadly,  I had a phone call from Lassie's owners just a few minutes ago.  Lassie was hit by a car and killed instantly this afternoon.  Lassie's people are devastated, especially the kids.  They have very young children, and one of the little girls had been picked up by some friends to go somewhere for a special birthday treat; the whole family gathered to wave good-bye, etc.  Lassie, who was anxious because she saw her little girl separated out and going off alone with these people, away from her family, unnoticed by her family slipped out a side gate that in the hurry and excitement one of the others had not quite fully latched.  The house is only a few yards from a main road.  Lassie went out on the road (where she had seen the girl go in a car) to look for her little girl, and apparently was hit almost immediately by a car (which did not stop, sounds like).  Lassie's family is really distraught as you can imagine.  Although Lassie was not our own, we feel this very deeply.

Those of you who have pups from the one and only litter of Lassie and Angus, you've got treasures there.

I am pleased to make an announcement that we have acquired Caitrin, a lovely new farm collie female for future breeding here at Gracehaven.  Her sire is Heiland Thistle's Diego, her dam is Emma, an AKC rough collie.  Diego is the main reason why I wanted Caitrin-- he is not only just beautiful and coming from a classic farm collie sire, but he comes of some of the same lines as our Ginny did.  Diego's eyes are so much like our Ginny's were, that we loved so much.  He also has the classic, intelligent farm collie brains and temperament which he got in turn from his sire, Jacob.

Caitrin, then, shares a little of the same Jacob/ Jenny blood with Ginny of Gracehaven, our founding matriarch that we tragically lost at the beginning of November 2008.  Caitrin is 5/8 rough collie, and the rest Old Time Farm Shepherd which some consider to be English Shepherd.  I personally consider they are not quite the same, I will refer to her lineage as OTFS.

Caitrin has her dad Diego's eyes that we were wanting, plenty of smarts, and beautiful old-fashioned farm collie looks.  Her eyes have checked out as normal-eyed.  We plan on breeding her in a few years and meanwhile she has been settling in as a member of our family.
