2014 Update

Many people have contacted me about upcoming litters.  I don't plan to breed until sometime in 2016, when my new girl, Annis, is mature enough to breed.  Annis's mother Lucy is from the last of Faraway Farm's line, Lucy. Annis' father Wes descends partly from my own Gracehaven line, having my own Angus X Ginny as great-grandparents. Wes' dad is Lanza's Bronson, another great line.

If you are interested on being on my wait list, please contact me.

For fun-- check out my Collie Reading page, in the tabs above (in the same row as litter tabs)!  Dive into a good collie adventure story!

Natural Tick Control option

I just found this site, haven't tried any of their products, but would be very interested if someone decides to try it and if it works.  We don't personally have much of a tick problem here, but many of you live in tick-infested areas.  Of course this isn't helpful if you are just traveling or hiking, but it's maybe worth a try?

Let me know if any of you try it!

Gracehaven Caitrin, from Heiland Thistle

In Dec. 2008 we acquired Caitrin, a lovely farm collie female for future breeding here at Gracehaven.  Her sire is Heiland Thistle's Diego, her dam is Emma, an AKC rough collie.  Diego is the main reason why I wanted Caitrin-- he is not only just beautiful and coming from a classic farm collie sire, but he comes of some of the same lines as our Ginny did.  Diego's eyes are so much like our Ginny's were, that we loved so much.  He also has the classic, intelligent farm collie brains and temperament which he got in turn from his sire, Jacob.

Caitrin, then, shares a little of the same Jacob/ Jenny blood with Ginny of Gracehaven, our founding matriarch that we tragically lost at the beginning of November 2008.  Caitrin is 5/8 rough collie, and the rest Old Time Farm Shepherd which some consider to be English Shepherd.  I personally consider they are not quite the same, I will refer to her lineage as OTFS.

Caitrin has her dad Diego's eyes that we were wanting, plenty of smarts, and beautiful old-fashioned farm collie looks.  Her eyes have checked out as normal-eyed. For pictures of Caitrin, look above for the thumbnail pics of "Miss Caitrin".

Caitrin bred 3 gorgeous litters in 2011, 2012, and 2013 (see tabs above).  She is now retired from breeding, I will be using Annis to carry on in future.

Me & Angus (Angus 17 yrs.)

Welcome

This site is for those of my "collie family", as well as people interested in what we are doing here at Gracehaven.

We love collies enough to be concerned about the health issues of many modern purebred (AKC) collies. Our goal is to re-create an older type of collie once prevalent 50-100 years ago, "Old-Fashioned Scotch Collie"-- a more sensible collie, if you will, with the looks, charm, intelligence, collie temperament of yesteryear with the added bonus of improved genetic health.

You may note that "Farm Collies" are sometimes called "Scotch Collies" as awareness grows to preserve this type of historic collie.  You can see pictures of historic collies, and read fascinating articles about Scotch collies here.

New inquiries please use hennings@starband.net and put "collie" in subject line. Once I know who you are, Collie friends and family please use gracehaven@centurytel.net  It's because I set more rigorous spam filters on the latter.  Thanks!

Gracehaven on Facebook

I've set up a Gracehaven group on Facebook.  Members can discuss topics, post messages, post pictures and videos. I still prefer personal correspondence via email, but this is meant more for sharing things that others would enjoy. If you have trouble finding the group, email me and I'll send an invite!

Worming

I had a link for D.E. as a natural option for worming.  I've been told that doesn't work when wet.  Instead, here are two herbal options:
