February 6, 2012 update:
We continue to work on the inside of the Green House. Since the last update, we painted all of the rooms (lots of primary colors - feels like we're in kindergarten...); sanded, stained and put two coats of polyurethane on the floor; and installed the cabinets in the kitchen.
If you want to view the whole album from the start, feel free. Otherwise, here's a link to the first photo of this new batch (you might want to cover the children's eyes....). Enjoy and feel free to leave some comments...
December 18, 2011 update:
I decided to move ALL of the Green House remodel project into one album - too hard to think of names and lines of demarcation for each part of the project. It's all just overwhelming, so might as well make an overwhelming slideshow.
All of the major lifting, so to speak, is complete - new roof, new siding, new windows, lots of new beams and plywood, almost all new drywall. Zoinks! Now we're ready to paint, finish the floors and install the kitchen. Hopefully, we'll be all set for guests come early spring for birdwatching season! I'll keep adding more to this album, for sure. Hope you enjoy the slideshow.
October 24th update:
Construction has begun...by the professionals. Patience and Jamie (and various helpers) have been working on the Green House for a couple weeks now. Old roof? Gone! New roof? Higher, stronger, prettier, better! New windows are in (waiting on the porch windows) and we've bumped out both bedrooms by two feet. It doesn't sound like much, but that extra two feet will allow us to actually walk AROUND a bed (yes, those rooms are tiny...) and maybe even put in a nightstand. Imagine that!
The living room ceiling has been removed and we'll have an open, vaulted (?) ceiling. Next up is the new siding, other windows and LOTS of indoor work. I guess this means we have a winter project...

September 24th update:
We've decided to remodel the green house - it's about time. Soon to come will be a new roof, new siding and new windows. Our friend Patience is doing the work, along with Jamie. To get things started, we decided to pull off the siding ourselves (and also to save a little money...). Barbara took all of these photos, in between running around to clean up all of the shingles that we threw her way. Here's the link to the green house siding removal - click here.
August 10th update:
Wow, what a difference a month makes! We finally visited our local carpet store on Bayshore Road and got a good deal on carpet for the living room. And well, what with us being us, we can't just get new carpet in the room with that awful brown paneling. So, we spent the weekend on a quick living room spruce-up project. (We're about 95% finished, at this point.)
There are also some photos of us actually having fun at the house. We had the McGrath's down for a weekend, and they helped us celebrate Linda's birthday. And although we have no photos to prove it, this past weekend we did ZERO work at the houses. That doesn't mean we're not sore - - from hours of boogey-boarding with random 10-year-olds. Fun stuff!
Please note that there are actually photos of Diane doing some work, rather than taking photos of Barbara, Linda and Connie doing work. Boy, that loveseat was HEAVY!
June 24th update:
So, it's been quite a while since we've posted house updates and photos. And for that, I am truly sorry. I'm also truly exhausted from more weekends of working on these doggone houses. (No comments, please, on how Barbara and I weren't here for two weekends in a row and that Linda slaved away in the garden - and how we had to hear all about it....)
Anyway, some updates that we've made since we posted last include, well, the garden that Linda transported from Rydal down to The Villas so that she can actually grow some veggies; both bedrooms are "finished"; some kitchen updates; the porch is clean and almost mess-free.
Another huge update is that we finally got started on the green house. We cleaned that place from front to back, top to bottom. And this week, we got the plumbing hooked up. Hooray! Now we can have folks stay in "the guest house" and actually be able to, you know, use the bathroom!
Okay, on to some random photos!
May 8th update:
We finished the small bedroom. Well, except for windowsill and curtains. All living room furniture is ready to be sat upon (and floored underneath...). Linda and Lori got the vegetable garden structure going. And we had our first guests sleep on the pull-out sofa. Click here to view the slideshow from this weekend.

May 2nd:
We're exhausted! We closed on Friday, then painted all day Saturday and Sunday. Click here to see some before and after shots of the bedrooms.
March 2011
Are we crazy? Maybe. But we'll be crazy by the bay, so what's so bad about that?
