The Gum Springs Elementary School Media Center exists to provide students, parents, and educators with access to information to further learning and to encourage pleasure reading. We believe that students must be able to do more than effectively retrieve information from a variety of sources; students must be able to evaluate, critique, and synthesize information as well. The media specialist collaborates with teachers to create meaningful lessons and works to educate students, parents, and educators in information technology and to create lifelong learners.
The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This mission is accomplished:
* by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats.
* by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and
using information and ideas.
* by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet individual needs of
students.
