Interview with Ellen Newell Bryan - early Girl Scout
"In February of 1996, in the spirit of “Thinking Day,” Living History had the opportunity to interview 91 year old, Ellen Newell Bryan as a community service for the Girl Scouts of America. She was born in 1905 in Atlanta, the granddaughter of an Atlanta Mayor, George Hillyer, attended Washington Seminary and the Lucy Cobb School for Girls. Her mother was a friend of Juliette Gordon Low, and began the Girls Scouts in Atlanta. Ellen married Wright Bryan, a Clemson man who covered D-Day live; he was wounded and a POW and in later years became the editor of the Atlanta Journal.
Please take a few minutes to listen to Ellen’s rich southern accent as she describes the genesis of Girl Scout cookies and just for fun, about her relationship with Margaret Mitchell."
Great Backyard Bird Count Feb 14th-17th
I thought this would be a neat thing to forward to your troop for them to do this weekend and/or on yet another day off from school!
It's called the Great Backyard Bird Count, and it runs from Feb 14th to Feb 17th. You set up an account on this website and count how many birds you see for 15 minutes. It helps scientists get a snapshot of how many birds are in your area.
I have scheduled a trip to Savannah with my girls but I have openings for 3 more girls and 1 adult to make this possible. We are traveling June 9 to 11. If you have girls interested please contact me for further information
Donate your empty cookie boxes!
God's Pantry, Harvest Hope, and the Kingdom Life Christian Center Food Pantry will take your empty cookie boxes to use for their donations.
If you know of any other organizations that will take your empty boxes, please feel free to comment in this thread.

639 Spring Encampment
Due to lack of interest, I have released Camp Wabak back to the council the weekend of May 16-18. This was to have been our Service Unit encampment, but, apparently it was a "bad" weekend with everything else we all do. I have heard that there are multiple concerts, recitals, and the like the same weekend so the encampment has been cancelled. I feel that it is only fair to release the camp - in fact, I know that others are waiting for the opportunity to have their encampment but were unable to get the camp. Life is busy for all of us - maybe we will consider a Fall Encampment. Thanks for all you do!
Important Cookie Dates
As everyone knows cookie sales start this Friday and with saying this please reinforce to your girls and parents that no cookies can be sold until Friday. Please let your parents know if they are taking a check from a customer they must have a name, address, phone number and must importantly a drivers license number and expiry date.
If you are a new TCM and have not got a password from me to get into SNAP please contact me and I will provide it to you.
The last day for training online or face to face is tomorrow Thursday January 9th. I need your Volunteer Agreement by Thursday January 9th or your troop will not be able to sell cookies.
I need everyone to go in and complete their profile in SNAP for me so that I will be able to give you access to the cookie kiosk.
The following are important dates:
January 10 -26 - Door to Door Sales
January 29th - Troop initial orders including early recognitions submitted, permission slips, voided check or bank authorization letter delivered to me. I also need to know if there are any changes to your delivery station.
I would appreciate if you can give me the permission forms and voided check etc. before the due date if possible.

I hope I have not forgotten anything but if you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to get hold of me either by phone at 862-3222 or by e-mail. I will do my best to answer you as promptly as I can and if I do not have the answer I will find it out for you.

Thinking Day is Feb 8th, not Feb 1st
Thanks to Amy Brown!! She caught my error on the Thinking Day 2014 flyer! Originally the event was to take place on February 1 BUT had to be changed to February 8 due to conflict at SUMC where the event is held.
So... Thinking Day is to be held on Saturday February 8. I have attached a corrected flyer. I sincerely apologize for the error!
