City Slickers 2014

Leaders,
Attached is our City Slicker camp flier for 2014.  As of right now we have 1 Daisy spot open, 0 Brownie, 6 Junior, 2 Cadette, and 2 Senior/Ambassador.  If you know of a girl looking for a fun filled camp here in Simpsonville, please give them the information along with my phone numbers - 967-8363 home and 238-5258 cell.  Due to the shortage of spaces, a phone call is advised so that I can save the spot for their daughter if they are truly interested.  As the flier states, this is our eighth year of City Slickers...and we have so much fun planned!

Interview with Ellen Newell Bryan - early Girl Scout
"In February of 1996, in the spirit of “Thinking Day,” Living History had the opportunity to interview 91 year old, Ellen Newell Bryan as a community service for the Girl Scouts of America. She was born in 1905 in Atlanta, the granddaughter of an Atlanta Mayor, George Hillyer, attended Washington Seminary and the Lucy Cobb School for Girls. Her mother was a friend of Juliette Gordon Low, and began the Girls Scouts in Atlanta. Ellen married Wright Bryan, a Clemson man who covered D-Day live; he was wounded and a POW and in later years became the editor of the Atlanta Journal.

Please take a few minutes to listen to Ellen’s rich southern accent as she describes the genesis of Girl Scout cookies and just for fun, about her relationship with Margaret Mitchell."

Great Backyard Bird Count Feb 14th-17th
I thought this would be a neat thing to forward to your troop for them to do this weekend and/or on yet another day off from school!

It's called the Great Backyard Bird Count, and it runs from Feb 14th to Feb 17th. You set up an account on this website and count how many birds you see for 15 minutes.  It helps scientists get a snapshot of how many birds are in your area.
