HAITI DAY 1.JPG
Arrival in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti!!

HAITI DAY 1.JPG
This is the picture of the orphanage where we stayed for the duration of the trip. The house is located in Petionville, a city north of Port-Au-Prince in the mountains.

This is the view of the neighborhood and mountains from the orphanage.

DAY 4 Haiti (118).JPG
This is a photo of Pastor Jean-Fritz Nichola and his wife Missou, whom everyone refers to as Madame.

HAITI DAY 1 (10).JPG
Almost all of this photos came from my friend Kelly who took lots of shots of the kids, the orphanage, and Port-Au-Prince.

HAITI DAY 1 (47).JPG
Some of the girls at the orphanage playing around. They all loved having their picture taken.

HAITI DAY 1 (2).JPG
Nita & one of the little girls at the orphanage. All of the kids take care of each other.

haiti Day 2 (95).JPG
In total there are around 60 children at the orphanage. They have a number of women who serve as nannies to the children, feeding them, and sleeping in the rooms with them at night.

haiti Day 2 (96).JPG
This is Johnnie, who they found a couple of days before we arrived. He's around one month old.

haiti Day 2 (101).JPG
This is the boys room at the orphanage where they probably put around 10-12 children.

haiti Day 2 (104).JPG
This is Markeev

haiti Day 2 (153).JPG
Day Two begins with a trip to church and then to the site in Gressier, where the new orphanage will be. The site was only 12 miles away as the crow flies, but it took at least two hours to get there.

Haiti day 6 p.au (80).JPG
This is a typical picture of us in the van. There were eleven on the team total and we fit ten of us in the back with five on each bench with one in the front with Pastor.

haiti Day 2 (119).JPG
These next few will be pictures taken out of the van of the streetscapes in Haiti.

Building Materials

greg pics (63).JPG
People generally build what they can at the moment, generally leaving the re-bar exposed on top of the columns for future expansions, which might not happen for years to come.

haiti day 2b (8).JPG
Kelly brought down a packet of stickers and the kids proceeded to put them everywhere...it was so great to be able to give them presents because they were so unbelievably grateful and they shared with everyone! it was so amazing to see them immediately turn and share. : ) God is smiling down on these kids

haiti day 3 (54).JPG
These girls are so unbelievably sweet. Nita is in the purple dress and Germany (yes like the country) is her school uniform. They and some of the other older girls helped make us dinner and were upstairs with us a lot of the time. They spoke English very well and we were able to get to know them well.

haiti day 3 (78).JPG
The older kids heading off to school!

haiti day 3 (124).JPG
Yep that is how they went, standing up and all : )

day3noon (14).JPG
The kids created their own fun adventures around the orphanage.

day3noon (19).JPG
The also had some toys to play with.

day3noon (30).JPG
Another thing that was wonderful to see about these kids is just how self-sufficient they are. They all helped out.

day3noon (38).JPG
I just love that she has a book on her head : )

day3noon (56).JPG
Doesn't his smile remind you of goofy? haha adorable.

day3noon (58).JPG
preciousness

day3noon (77).JPG
one thing that was constant was that the kids just longed for affection. the minute you were down there and responded to them, you had five plus wanting to just touch you and hold on to you. i just wanted to hug them all!

day3noon (79).JPG
these two girls were so precious! : ) I think they were sisters.

KELLYDAY3 (38).JPG
This is a typical meal that the kids have three days a week. It sort of like gravy. Sometimes they have rice and other treats as well, but this is their main staple.

DAY 4 Haiti (81).JPG
One thing that was interesting and is that they loved our hair! haha they just wanted to touch it, which was weird for me when i hadn't washed my hair in a day or two! Haha!

KELLYDAY3 (2).JPG
Jaimee let them braid her hair! : )

KELLYDAY3 (3).JPG
These next couple are of us working, which is how we pretty much spent our days. Jennifer on the left was the other architect on the team and gabe on the right was another architect/urban planner who did the master plan

Pastor took us into the city to kinda walk around one day. By kinda we mainly stayed on this not very busy/market road. Pastor didn't want to draw too much attention, which is hard with eleven white people walking around. This by the way is the President's House...yep the only thing in Haiti like it
