Hand tied wigs are specially designed wigs entirely made by hand. Each hair strand is attached to the cap by hand. As they are very delicate, these wigs need extra care and attention. If you take care of them properly, they will look as good as new for years.
Washing Hand Tied WigsTo keep your wig free of dirt and dust, you should wash your wig at least once weekly. To wash your wig, pin it on to a wig block using straight pins, and also make sure that the water is running from the root of the hair to the ends. Otherwise, the force of water may loosen the knots and will cause damage to your wig. Also, cover the block using a plastic sheet before placing the wig on it. This will prevent any damage to the canvas of the block.

You should also use a shampoo and conditioner that are specific for the type of wig you have. For instance, if you have a synthetic
hand tied wig, you should only use products that are specially designed for
synthetic hair wigs. This applies to human hair wigs as well.
Once you have placed your wig on the block, you can pour a solution of shampoo and water on the wig. Use a wide toothed brush to comb the wig hair gently. This is done to ensure that the solution has reached all the hair strands. Then, you should clean the dirtiest areas of the wig such as the hairline, and the nape of the wig using a cotton ball. Leave the hair on the block for 3 to 4 minutes. Do not rub or brush it hardly, as it will damage the hair strands. Again, pour cool water on the wig, and repeat the process until it is clean. You can also fill a spray bottle with conditioner and spray it on the hand tied wig.
After washing, allow enough time for it to dry thoroughly. When dried, use a comb and brush it gently. Always remember to use a wide toothed comb.
Styling your Hand Tied WigYou can style your human hair wig as you do to your normal hair. Also, you can use hair straighteners, curling irons and blow driers without any problem. Apply mousse, hair spray, or gel, and style it any way you want. If your hand tied wig is a curly one, avoid combing it. Combing may undo the curls. If you want to detangle your curly wig, use your hand. If your wig is synthetic, avoid placing it near any kind of extreme heat. This includes blow driers, ovens, curling irons, and hair straighteners. Extreme heat may damage the plastic material used to make the synthetic wig causing it to melt away. For frizzy hair, you can apply sheen spray on the wig.
Storing your Hand Tied WigAlways store it on a wig stand, and cover it with a plastic sheet to keep it dust free. If you do not have a wig stand, you can place your wig in a plastic bag or hair net. If you want to take your hand tied wig while travelling, carry it in a wig box.
