HES Designated as a Reward School by NJDOE
NJ Department of Education has recognized HES as a Reward School---one of 112 schools out of 2,500 to be designated as a top achiever (either overall or in progress). HES earned the honor for its progress in student achievement growth. HES is the only HVRSD school and 1 of 3 schools in Mercer County to be named a Reward School!
Early Dismissal Day: Mon 5/7
Next Monday is an early dismissal day with the following schedule:
Grades 1-5: 8:35-12:45
K-AM: 8:35-11:05
K-PM: 10:05-12:45

HES Events
NJASK Testing for Grades 3-5: Mon 5/7 – Fri 5/11.
The New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK) tests for Grades 3-5 will be administered next week, Mon. 5/7 through Fri. 5/11. Testing will begin first thing in the morning and run for 60 to 100 minutes. Please help your child be at his or her best by providing a good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast, and ensuring they arrive to school on time. Make-up tests will be administered on Mon. 5/14.
Staff Appreciation Luncheon - Food Needed: Mon 5/7
HES PTO is organizing a special luncheon to honor Hopewell Elementary teachers & staff in the Cafeteria on Monday, May 7 at 12:45 PM (an Early Dismissal Day). Food donations are needed, specifically:

All plants are organically-grown by HES Garden Club: tomatoes, peppers, basil, parsley, nasturtium, Mexican sunflower and more! The sale proceeds will support the Garden Club and HES Gardens.

Fill That Truck! – Wed 5/16 @ 8:20-9:00 AM
The next FILL THAT TRUCK! event will take place on Wednesday, May 16. Donations of oatmeal, peanut butter, soup, canned fruit or vegetables, pasta, diapers and baby wipes are greatly appreciated. Gently used or new clothing and household items also accepted. The truck will be located in the HES parking lot from 8:20 AM - 9:00 AM. Special thanks to Donna Longo for driving donations to the East Trenton Center in April.
Parent Advisory Council Meeting: 5/16 @ 8:30 AM
The Parent Advisory Council will meet on Wednesday, May 16 at 8:30 AM to discuss important issues affecting students and HES.
Field Day Volunteers Needed: 5/25
The annual day of sporting events and other activities for grades 1-6 will be held Friday, May 25. More volunteers are needed for this very fun day. Please return the attached form to Mrs. Kirk-Papp (KKirk-Papp@hvrsd.org) and specify a session:
AM session (9am – 12:30pm)
PM session (12pm – 3:30pm)
Entire day (9am – 3:30pm)
Adult lunches will be available in the cafeteria for $2.50-$4.00. Volunteer assignments will be posted at http://www2.hvrsd.org/Schools/hopewell (under Field Day News), the week prior to Field Day.
Brain Show Family Fun Night & Student Art Show Thank You's

Please come out to support the Hopewell Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary Mother's Day Plant Sale! Hanging baskets, patio dish gardens, potted plants and vegetables available by the flat or individually. Prices range from $3 to $30, cash or checks accepted. E-Squared Awards Dinner & Celebration: Fri 5/11
The Hopewell Valley Education Foundation's annual E-Squared Awards Dinner & Celebration is Friday, May 11, 2012 at 6 PM at the ETS Chauncey Conference Center. Come out to help honor the individuals and corporations who made significant contributions to HVRSD schools this year--especially Hopewell Elementary School's winner, Jane-Ellen Lennon. Internet Safety Presentation: 5/16 @ 7:30 PM
HVRSD invites parents and interested community members to a special presentation on Wednesday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m. in The Performing Arts Center at HVCHS. Douglas Brower, District Supervisor of Educational Technology, will explain what students are learning in the classroom about acceptable online behavior as well as how the school district is safeguarding students from SPAM and objectionable websites.
