About us

Welcome to Maison de Lapin Jolie Rabbitry. We are a small rabbitry located just outside of Winnfield, Louisiana. We are blessed to be located in Louisiana’s Piney Woods and in the heart of the Kisatchie Nation Forest.

We welcome you to Louisiana. It’s a wonderful place where good music, southern hospitality, the sportsman’s paradise and great food collide... We love Wayne Toups, cool evenings and crawfish. The cool evenings are few and far between but we thoroughly enjoy them when we’re fortunate enough to experience them.

We began the adventure of raising rabbits when our children were young. At that time we had Mini Rex, Holland Lop, Mini Lop and several other breed that were thrown in there because Rebecca or Logan just couldn’t live without them.

Well now that the kids are grown and gone and my nest is "empty: this a wild “hare” just hit me smack between they eyes and I decided to start raising and showing rabbits again. I doing some research on the internet ran across a picture of Cimmaron Rabbitry’s Star Dust and instantly fell in love with the lionhead breed. Needless to say the quest to find quality show and brood stock began…as I worked frantically to purchase 29 lionheads from all over the country and had them transported to Louisiana.

Thus the humble beginnings of Masion de Lapin Jolie… For those of you scratching your head and wondering Maison de Lapin Jolie? It means House of pretty rabbits. ..and let me tell you I definitely have some pretty rabbits.

This story would not be complete without recognition going out to those wonderful breeders and mentors who helped me get started. A great big thank you goes to Brandy Alonzo and Sha Nohr of BunnyBee’s Rabbitry in Seattle Washington, Brianna, Bethany and Brittni Schneider of Schneider’s Little Lions Rabbitry in North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Mary and Henry Weber of Webers Lionhead Rabbitry in Manistique Michigan, Lorelei Ann Long from L &D Rabbitry, Carol Walsh of FurSashe Rabbitry in Northwest Illinois, Suzanne Hansen of Aspenleaf Rabbitry in Fort Collins, Colorado and Dawn Guth of Bastet’s Bunnies in Ohio. Thank you all for the wonderful start in my lionhead herd, putting up with my endless questions and panick attacks from the “new mommy”.

I work for the Dugdemona Soil and Water Conservation District and love what I do. I believe strongly in the conservation of our natural resources. We are tigers through and through…as in Winnfield Tigers and LSU Tigers. We are also premiere members of the Who Dat Nation.

Cajun Christmas - Bonfires on Mississippi River Levee

Here is a small video clip of Christmas eve on the Mississippi river in south Louisiana. This is a yearly tradition, mostly in the "River Parishes" (St. James, St. John and St. Charles parishes) and on the east side of river. The tradition is, depending on who you speak to, either to light the way for Papa Noel (cajun french Santa figure). Others say it is to help guide ships on the river, during December fog in Louisiana. Others say it is to help guide the faithful Catholics to Midnight Mass on Christmas. Whatever the belief, it is still a strong tradition, that still happens to this day on christmas eve. The River parishes are located between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. I have been numerous times and the bonfires can get quite large and really detailed and ALOT of work goes into them. I also would HIGHLY recommend attempting to go once in a lifetime, if possible. When he was a 7 year old kid, he learned piano from his ,much older, brother-in-law Harrison Verrett. His piano playing was influenced by boogie woogie pianists like Albert Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis and his triplet piano style came from Little Willie Littlefield, who,by the way,lives in the Netherlands. His first record was "The Fat man", recorded in 1949 and became a R & B hit in 1950 and a gold record in 1953. His cooperation with the bandleader Dave Bartholomew resulted in an almost endless chain of R & B and Top 100 hit records. He also played the piano on Lloyd Price's millionseller "Lawdy miss clawdy." Fats performed in 4 Rock & Roll movies, "The girl can't help it, "Shake rattle and rock", "Jamboree" and "The Big beat." This ended in 1963 with "Red sails in the sunset," by than Fats recorded for ABC-Paramount and the cooperation with Dave had ended. In the period 1949-1960 he had 23 million sellers, not less than 17 were co-written with Dave Bartholomew. In 1955, with the arrival of Rock & Roll, Fats became also popular with the white audience starting with "Ain't that a shame." Lew Chudd, the owner of Imperial Records sold his record company to LIBERTY in 1963. At that time success ...
