Tyler Ceparano took 3rd in both FS & GR wrestling against high schoolers and winning quality matches and winning quality periods. Tyler had the best high amplitud throw of the day! Our coaching staff and families have decided to attend out of state events this post season with the exception of one. However, there are many local events in this state that offer fs/greco events that you can choose from. Our idea for this summer is to make this post season eventful for the entire family. Our goal will be to do something that is FUN / unrelated to wrestling during the each tournament trip if we can such as riding go karts, bowling, hiking, visiting tourist attractions, etc if at all possible.

8. 5th - 10th Grade State Championships 1/16/12 - This event is primarily for experienced wrestlers (ie. normally just a handful due to the busy weekend). This is a very good event and several kids attend each year on this MLK day when kids are out of school. I will address if we need to cancel Monday practice or not by this Thursday at the latest. It is normally needed as wrestlers, parents, and coaching staff are generally ready for a break after the duals weekend. Here is link to the event:

He is a senior in high school with a ton of wrestling credentials, has many years of experience running & teaching camps for the Hurricanes, a well trustworthy young man, and he knows wrestling! For those that don’t know, he offers some private wrestling lessons which is one of the reasons my son has developed so well. I can’t say enough about him but the fact is that in my absence this weekend due to club competition scheduling conflict you will be in good hands just like this past weekend with Coach Jim Comeford. Our club has the ability to provide variety for our kids which will help them reach new levels in this sport.
**This will be a good weekend to watch and / or get some wrestling in before we hit the holidays. We will have practices over the holidays but avoid competition to give our kids a break from competition and enjoy their Christmas gifts & family! We may run a mini-camp for kids that want extra training and that is TBD.***
Below you will the fliers, links to events, and iteniary document for the weekend.

Congratulations to Joey Moon, his parents (Jeff & Patti), coaches, and fans on his verbal committement to wrestle for UNC after his senior year of high school!!! Joey is a lifetime member of the Hurricanes and you probably see him nights he picks up his little brother or dropping my son (X) off at a Sunday practice after training at UNC! His picture is on our online Wall of Fame as well as at the top right hugging Tony on our homepage after their 1st place finishes at high school states last year as juniors! We are so proud of Joey's hard work ethic on & off the mat! Joey made it possible by putting forth all his effort, by seeking out the best coaches, seeking out best competition, best training partners, and summer training! Also, his successes built at a young age with the Hurricanes and then his career taken to another level under Randy DeAngelo at Southern Alamance High School! This system works and I'd advise all to take advantage and trust in the system.

Lastly, we have to do our annual 'electric slides' as you know I love to dance! Please make sure you either sign up at the gym and / or email Tracey Wilson at towcew@embarqmail.com so we have a head count for the purposes of planning.

NCSU is having its youth appreciation night. They did this last year during the week. This year it is on a Saturday against ODU at 7:00 pm. All the kids should wear gear from their clubs and they will get called out as a group to get recognized in the middle of the match.
The NCUSAW Jr High & Elementary State Championships event will be held in Winston-Salem, NC on Feb 12th and weigh ins on Friday Feb 11th from 6 - 9 pm. The club will be paying for ALL kids entry fees up to $1,000 total entries! Please have your kids at the coliseum Saturday morning by 7:30 am so we set up our area and warm up plus the wrestling will start at 8:30 am! We have STRONG shot at winning the Elementary States Youth Team title. We have a sign up sheet at the gym already so please sign up early so we can have our kids registered prior to deadline. We will need a few folks to help run a table (ie. rotate of parents or something) and I'll be helping with weigh ins I believe on Friday night since I'm currently part of the NCUSAW Board as of right now. This year the pairings will be PreK-K graders, 1st-2nd graders, 3rd-4th graders, and 5th-6th graders, 7th graders, 8th graders, and 9th graders together.
The address for the main coliseum is 2825 University Parkway Winston-Salem, NC 27105 but the Annex will be weigh ins and where the elementary kids wrestle which will be 300 Deacon Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. The Annex is right behind the main complex plus there will be plenty of signs to guide you right there. I'm staying at teh Sundance Plaza hotel on Friday night. See flyer for hotel information. You can also visit www.trackwrestling.com to see total number of wrestlers by division, etc.
I'd like for us to have big numbers come out to the last two Southern Alamance HS wrestling dual meets. These are posted in our calendar but the dates are Feb 1st and Feb 2nd both starting at 7 pm. Our club kids need to wear our Hurricanes gear (black & red) so they get in FREE and can parade in with the high school kids. Most of the high school kids on the team have been involved / still involved with our wrestling program so let's give back to them by supporting them. They love to see us show up and they came out to see us during our Hurricanes Duals. If you are able to attend then you need to be at the Southern Alamance HS now later than 6:30 pm so kids can be organized to parade in with the high school kids. Southern Alamance will wrestle against Southeast Guilford on Feb 1st and then Smith on Feb 2nd. Thanks for your support.

We will cancel our 1/11/11 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm Tuesday night ELITE practice tonight due to weather / unsafe roads. Mother nature is running the show right now and will allow us to get back after it very soon.
Homework Assignment for ALL wrestlers:
Visit the following college wrestling coverage on Flowrestling.com. Watch the semi-finals and finals matches (ie. as many as possible) and list all the moves / techniques that the college wrestler scored with that we do in our youth wrestling program classes. You will need to list the names of wrestlers in the match, weight class they wrestled, name of move they scored with that we teach in our practices, and if it was in the semi or finals. I personally enjoyed the 141 semi finals (Kellen Russel), 157 and 174 finals. For bonus points, show me a move we have not covered or coolest move you see in this link that we haven't covered in our wrestling program! There could be a suprise!

What can you do at home for 20-30 minutes? Handfight with sibling/parent for 4-6 minutes; stance & motion 6 minutes; drill seal off stand ups up against any wall in home 4-6 minutes
We will cancel our 1/10/11 5:45 pm - 7:15 pm Monday night practice tonight due to timing of this winter storm. We are going to allow mother nature to run her course and respect it.
What can you do at home for 20-30 minutes? Handfight with sibling/parent for 4-6 minutes; stance & motion 6 minutes; drill seal off stand ups up against any wall in home 4-6 minutes

The night was filled with dodge ball, dance contest (Coach Troy took 1st), sharks & minnows, flashlight tag, chase the storm, roasting of marmellows, snowball fights, sledding, movies all night until 3:30 am and ate tons of pizza and chips! I think we didn't go to bed until like 4 am but payback was great with a 6:15 am beautiful whistle alarm and flashing lights. hahahaha!!!! Awesome event as always! Don't miss next year!
The Southern Alamance HS vs Southeast Guilford High school wrestling dual has been CANCELED due to inclement weather policy for the school. Therefore, we will CANCEL this coming THURSDAY'S PRACTICE ON 12/16/10 and in place attend this high school match. All Hurricanes wrestlers get in "FREE" and our kids get to parade in with the SAHS team. Please be at Southern Alamance HS by 6:00 pm to ensure they get to parade in. Wear your gear and if you don't have gear just yet please wear Red & Black and sit in Hurricanes section. This match will be a GREAT match to watch and kids will learn. Always check our calendar and the website for updates. Lastly, if the weather is bad and the high school cancels there match we will still not have practice this Thursday 12/16/10 just to be on the safe side of things. Thanks. -troy

1) Annual FREE Club Sleepover except Storm Chasers (ie. due to age & safety) - Drop off kids at gym by 6:30 pm to spend the night and parents pick up by 8 am SHARP and more than welcome to get them earlier! Kids will need the following: sleeping bag, pillow, warm coats/hats/gloves, roasting stick for marshmellows, flash light, best dance move(s), energy, and GREAT ATTITUDE! We will have pizza, drinks, and chips. This annual event allows our team to come together and build team unity. We play tons of games from sharks & minnows to flash light tag, we have about 2 fire pits so kids can roast marshmellows outside, we have a dance off (ie. coach Troy wins every year), watch movies (age appropriate), and get maybe 3 hrs of sleep. This is tons of fun and gives our parents the night off and chance to catch up on Christmas shopping.
2) Fall Brawl - $15 at Christiansburg, VA; recommended for kids with experience so if you are a 1st or 2nd yr wrestler then this is not for you; flyer attached down below, Coach Troy will be there but will have to leave by 3 pm no matter what so I can conduct Annual Sleepover; I will conduct satellite weigh-ins after the Thursday practice; we will leave gym by 6:30 am day of tournament in order to check in by 9 am

Please go out to support our local high schools! Hurricanes kids need to wear Hurricanes tshirts to get in FREE and a chance to help table workers to be 'tappers' that go out on the mat and pop the official with the towel at the end of each period. Kids love to do that!!! In addition, kids will see some of the kids that have come up through and / or wrestled with the Hurricanes in their youth days. I'll be there on Friday evening but in VA on Saturday before our sleepover. -troy

RWB Duals will take place on 11/20/10. Any of our elementary kids interested in competing at this very competitive event need to let me know your interest by 11/9/10. The TWU currently has a list of kids on the teams at weight classes so if you want to wrestle off for a spot then you need to let me know your intention, weight class, division, ASAP (ie. 11/9/10). Below is the link to the event itself but wrestle offs will need to be coordinated this Sunday 11/14/10 in Raleigh (NCSU) for elementary kids. More details to follow. Event flier is attached as well.
