Welcome to the 2009 Season
This website gives us an opportunity to share our memories and more effectively communicate with the entire Inglewood Chapter coaching staff, football players, cheerleaders, Executive Board, parents, volunteers, community supporters, and our alumni.
Inglewood Jr. All-American Football League is celebrating its 40th year of service to the youth in our community. More than 600 boys and girls participate in our organization. They are coached by volunteers who tirelessly teach and guide them, to understand the concept of team and good sportsmanship. We pride ourselves on emphasizing scholastic ability and physical conditioning. Our success is entirely due to our football and cheer coaches, Executive Board members, parents, and the efforts of our football players and cheerleaders on and off of the field. We are very proud that many of our alumni football players and cheerleaders return with their children to participate in our program.
Inglewood is known as the “City of Champions,” and our football teams have earned top honors for many years including the 2008 season. Out of six (6) OCJAAF Divisions, Inglewood earned two (2) Super Bowl Championships! Congratulations Back-to-Back Super Bowl Champions – Inglewood Jr. Midget, and Super Bowl Champions Clinic Black! We also congratulate the following five (5) teams that played hard-fought games in the AFL-NFL Championship games: Clinic Black, Jr. Pee Wee Green, Pee Wee Green, Jr. Midget, and the Midget Division – Sentinels. We also congratulate League Champions: Clinic Black, Jr. Pee Wee White, Pee Wee White, Jr. Midget and the Midget Division – Sentinels.
Our cheerleaders always rock-the-house! As a result of their efforts in cheer and dance, all of our teams earned top honors at the 2008 OCJAAF and Magic Mountain Competitions, and the 2009 National’s JAMZ Competition. See the Cheer page for full details. Thank you to our Coaches for providing guidance, sound leadership, and for dedicating countless hours to their team. As well, thank you to our alumni Trainers for volunteering at practice and during our games.
Homecoming Weekend October 2-4
Message from President Linda Gibson: Thanks for making yesterday so meaningful for me ... it is a day I will treasure the rest of my life ... thanks!
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Homecoming Concert/Dance on Friday night! Great job Coach Trick for organizing such a fun event... the kids really enjoyed the concert by Young Maestro ("Teach Me How to Dougie") and the Cali SWAG District ("Jerking").
Everybody from our Jr. Future League to our Jr. Midget had a good time, and the Jerking and Douging battles were fun too! Thank you to Cheer Coaches Trina, Elisha & Faye and the Cheer Moms for hooking-up the refreshments!!!
Our Homecoming celebration was a great success! It was wonderful that we could celebrate such a huge milestone on the same day as the birthday of our President Linda Gibson ... She has devoted close to 30 years of service to the youth in our community and we truly appreciate her!
Thanks to everyone who volunteered to set up the field for Homecoming. The team signs along the fence were a great representation of our team spirit. Fantastic job to Booster President Coach K, Booster Vice President Auntie Jackie, Tracie, Charnetta, Rochelle, Cheryl Johnson, Coach Haney, Mrs. Haney, Coach Tre, Coach Beefy, and Coach Walker, who volunteered in the snack bar for hours. We managed the lines as best as we could given the fact that we sold more than 500 chicken baskets, not to mention the links, hotdogs, and chili fries they helped prepare!
A big shout-out to Coach Anita (JPW Cherokees) as she volunteered in the snack bar wearing her stunner shades and her handbag on her shoulder - then performed as Michael Jackson during our Homecoming celebration!
A big shout-out to Cheer Director Charnetta Johnson and Co-Cheer Director Vanessa Williams and the entire Cheer Coaching staff for working with the cheerleaders to put on a fantastic Homecoming performance! You always represent and rock the house!
It was a pleasure to see many of our Alumni football players and cheerleaders in the house. We truly enjoyed watching our Alumni Cheerleaders perform - which most of them currently attend Inglewood High School, and some of them who also volunteer as our Trainers. Thank you!!!
Also a big shout-out to Coach Trick who announced the Jr. Midget Redskins vs. Colts game, our Homecoming half-time show, and read more than 100 of our popular game day Shout-Outs! He always keeps the game exciting, supports all of the football players and cheerleaders, and helps everyone have a good time. Much love to you!
Thanks to every person who volunteered and supported the Inglewood Jr. All-American family!

Important Announcement from President Gibson:
I am excited to announce that the Inglewood Jr. All-American Football League has a home football field for the 2009 season! Our 2009 season home games will be played at Hawthorne High School in Hawthorne, California. Before the start of the 2008 season, I promised that we would have a home field for the 2009 season. Please join me in thanking Executive Board members Rick Harris and Lesli Tate, IJAAFL Alumnus Curtis Conway, and Hawthorne High School Principal Dr. Newel and Head Football Coach Mr. Swain, for their tireless efforts to help us secure a home field. The Centinela Valley Unified School District fully supports IJAAFL and appreciates the efforts of our volunteers, and welcomes us with open arms to utilize their facilities at Hawthorne High School.
It is with mixed emotions that we must play our football games outside of the city of Inglewood. However, my priorities must ensure that our boys and girls have a home field (in close proximity to their homes) and are able to invite family and friends to support them and to be a part of the Inglewood Jr. All-American Football League experience. Thank you to the IJAAFL Executive Board for supporting my decision to move forward. We pride ourselves with many close relationships we have developed throughout the years. Having a home field will once again allow us the opportunity to rekindle those relationships and to support our IJAAFL brothers and sisters.
Kindest Regards,
Ms. Linda Gibson
President

To: Inglewood Jr. All-American Football League Staff & Parents
Many of you are quite concerned about our field situation for this 2008 season. I regretfully inform you that all of our games will be played on the road. For the past 38 years, we have had usage of Coleman Stadium (Sentinel Field) and recently Morningside High School. The field cost has increased drastically in the past 10 years. From 1999 to 2007 we went from $12,000.00 to $22,000.00, and these were discounted fees.
We submitted our application to the Inglewood Unified School District this year in March. No response was given from the District until July, informing us that they would not be discounting the field this year due to their budget cuts. I tried to get an audience with Superintendent Powell but was told she was on vacation and not available to lower the field cost of $47,000.00 -- $33,000.00 for Coleman and $14,000.00 for Morningside. We then began looking for other locations to play. Several of my Board Members and Coaches jumped on this endeavor knowing that our deadline was fast approaching. Hawthorne’s Head Football Coach and Principal embraced our efforts to use their facility. However, their school district was not able to provide us with a permit until one week after the deadline for OCJAAF to get regular season games. We were fortunate to obtain play-off games on week 9 and 10.
Please join me in thanking Coach Thad Ballew, Lesli Tate, Coach Ronnie Aubert, Coach Rick Harris and William Roebuck for all of their efforts to resolve this problem.
The final draft of the season’s schedule has not been posted, and once that happens, the Executive Board will revisit our budget to see what we can do to help off-set (if possible) the travel cost to the games the furthest away, example HB and beyond. We do need everyone to assist in this endeavor by carpooling to close locations.
The cost for the usage of the Fields was approximately $22,000.00. In years past the cost ran about $10,000.00. The increase of the fields weren’t in the 2007 budget for $22,000.00. The increase set the league back approximately $12,000.00. We enter this season 2008 in the RED with a cost of approx. $12,000.00. To combat this increase this year we have had the Firework Stand fund-raiser, and we will be hosting the play-off games during the post season of weeks 9 and 10, as well as the Super Bowl. Other fund-raisers scheduled for this season are: Get Acquainted Dance (September 20) and Monday Night Football at Chili’s (September 15 and October 27). With the above events all being a success for 2008-2009 season, we will financially end the season in the BLACK or GREEN as one may say.
I am sorry for any inconvenience and hardship this may cause anyone. I give my word that next year will be different.
Applications have already been submitted to ensure a home field for our 40th year anniversary.
Sincerely,
Linda Gibson
President

“By the organization investing more people, time, and money toward the student side of our student-athlete, we will be helping our young people to be better prepared as they enter high school, vocational school, college, and ultimately the workforce.”
Bill Alford,
Scholastic/Scholarship Director
"OCJAAF initiated the Scholarship Program so that our youth will be encouraged to perform well on the football field and more importantly to perform well in the classroom. By the organization investing more people, time, and money toward the student side of the student-athlete, we will be helping our young people to be better prepared as they enter high school, college, and ultimately the workforce."
"While in our youth football & cheerleading program our greatest importance is to challenge the youth to make them well-rounded and assets to society. We must take the challenge to encourage our youth to keep their graades up, to maintain high classroom attendance, and to get involved in school and community activities. They will carry this foundation throughout their lives."
"In OCJAAF there is commitment to ENCOURAGE SCHOLASTIC EXCELLENCE. The leadership of the OCJAAF staff and the executive council is encouraging everyone to put their support behind this noble cause."

In just one year of existence, this website (our expanded Inglewood website) has received more than 9,000 visitors! Thank you to every Inglewood Football & Cheer Coach, Every Parent, and E-Board member that have contributed to the success of this website! The purpose of this website is to provide opportunities for the Inglewood family to stay well connected with chapter business. From our weekly football games, scholastic activities, cheer competitions, youth dances & parent socials, and our alumni playing in high school, college and playing/coaching on the professional level, this website strives to highlight what is truly going right in the City of Inglewood! As we continue to celebrate our 40th Anniversary, we acknowledge and honor our chapter by using our original Native American team names: Apaches * Aztecs * Seminoles Warriors * Mohawks * Hawkeyes Cherokees * Blackhawks * Braves Comanches * Redskins * Warriors Sentinels And lastly… we are also proud members of OCJAAF -- the "Largest" Youth Football & Cheerleading Organization in the Nation! We are starting the 2009 season with two (2) 2008 OCJAAF Super Bowl Champions and two (2) 2009 Friendship Bowl Champions! As the only OCJAAF chapter to accomplish this difficult feat . . . We truly are #1! Let’s Go Inglewood! ...And You Did It Again Inglewood! 400 Strong Came Out to Support Our 40th Anniversary Fun Day Reunion on Saturday, August 29th at Darby Park! The Powder Puff Football Game between the Football Moms vs. Football Moms was exciting to watch as the Moms put it down! Final Score: 10-10 tie! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Inglewood Jr. Midget Green Redskins (Coach Naylor) Football Player Torey Washington, as he broke his leg during practice in August. Here’s to a speedy recovery! Inglewood Celebrates the Life of the Late – Michael Jackson – the Greatest Entertainer of All Time As we celebrate 40 years of service to the youth in our community, we remember the numerous times our cheerleaders danced routines to his music and entertained the crowd. We join the World and celebrate his extraordinary life, his extraordinary humanitarian efforts, and his extraordinary ability to encourage Mankind to: “Beat It,” look at the “Man in the Mirror,” “Remember the Times,” it doesn’t matter if you’re “Black or White,” and to “Ease on Down the Road.” May he Rest in Peace.
Join the Inglewood Football & Cheer Volunteers team in the 50 Million Pound Challenge!
Lets face it, our sons and daughters exercise more than we do. We see the same parents walking and jogging around the park, so lets join them. We must make the time to become “a size healthier.” See you on the Darby Park or Centinela Park walking path at practice… we owe it to ourselves to stay fly!
