NHB Recap from Coach Ian

The weekend recap...
I thought overall it was a successful weekend. Game one I thought our
rust of not playing a game in over a month showed; however, with that said
I would say we dominated at times of that game but did not finish our
chances and the other team did. Game two was all around solid performance
for the boys, and just a complete game.
This morning's game in my opinion was the best game the boys play all
year. FC Barcelona has won every tournament they have played in this
year, and are unanimously considered the best U9 team in all of Southern
California. I told the boys that before the game, and they certainly
stepped up to the challenge. I thought we completely outplayed them and
deserved to win the game. They had no more than 5 good chances and scored
4, while we had probably 8 chances and scored 1. Seeing our boys compete
and outplay the best team of our age makes me excited of what we can do,
when we play our best soccer.
The last game was great to see the boys not give up and fight back for the
win. After seeming to have the game in our hands, then giving up a two
goal lead, it was great to see us fight back and win the game in the last
2 minutes. That is something we will call on this season, knowing we are
a team who can figure out ways to win a game late in the match.
The end of this tournament signals the end of preseason, and the start of
our season. We have been working all summer to be the best we can be this
Saturday, it is important that everyone is at practice this week, so we
can work on a few last things before Saturday. Tell the boys to bring
their goal scoring shoes on Tuesday, we will spend a majority of our time
working on finishing, which I thought was our biggest weakness this
weekend.
