Powerful Trip To Israel During the 21 Day War!
I was tremendously blessed to have been invited to Israel with the AIEF African American Leaders Mission trip which took
place January 7 - 16, 2009. Ms. Kristina King, AIEF Midwest Outreach Regional Director, a loving and kind Christian professional lead our trip.
We all appreciated every detail that she and AIEF provided to ensure fun, safety and an educational enlightenment of Israel. I enjoyed our tours immensely whether we dined on fabulous Mediterranean Cuisine, walked along the sea of Galilee, floated in the Dead Sea, prayed at the wailing wall, baptized in the River Jordan, or sat in the midst of scholars and leaders absorbing Israel's history. Although sometimes intense, I shall be eternally grateful for this has truly been a "life changing experience" for me.
This was an extraordinary time to visit Israel with the intensity of an election going on, not to mention the conflict in Gaza. A few places we'd planned to visit, were changed as a result of the war. We had a 24hour security detail and felt safe during our visit. But nevertheless, while there, I received a unique perspective on the realities of living in Israel. The discussions were fascinating, and that the people of Israel were so eager to share their hearts and opinions about the challenges that they are currently facing and must continue face. I also had the privilege of meeting with the AIPAC Board of Directors, which was a meaningful experience for me -- both as African American leader and Minister.
There were a few eye-opening moments for me, but I know now, what we hear via the media in the states, is a far cry from what's going on in Israel. Hamas blatantly blames Israel for the high count of deaths reported over the past three weeks as in past wars. And per the media, it does appear acts of war was initiated by Israel. However, we heard reports just the contrary how Hamas' goal is to spread untruths and hate concerning Israel across the airwaves to neighboring countries. One report, "personally from the mouth of a Palestinian leader" who's life is constantly in danger because of his outspokenness, shared how bombs are planted under schools, homes and other public places "by Hamas terrorist." This is done so when Israel defends herself in the conflict, it appears as if they are the cause and without mercy, slaughters children, women and civilians in Gaza! It has been said over the years and I know now after visiting Israel "during a war," that Hamas, a known enemy of Israel wants to see them destroyed. Or as one Hamas leader was reported as saying, "Israel must be "wiped off the face of the earth."
Surprisingly, as an American citizen, it appears Hamas will go so far as to destroy their own, and distort the truth of it's actions, so that Israel appears as a ruthless uncaring nation. It's just the opposite. I, along with the other attendees, spent hours at a time listening to presentations and lectures from well known scholars and leaders from all facets of the Israeli Government especially regarding the latest occurrences in Israel. We were allowed to ask questions so that we understood the "core" of what was going on in Israel and with it's surroundings. I personally, having a love and respect for the Jewish people, am grateful the United States and Israel are friends and have a good relationship.
When the bible commands us to PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM, those words have become alive in my heart more than ever before.
Psalm 122 states "they that love thee shall prosper; peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces; for my brethren and companions' sakes, I will say now, peace be within thee; for the sake of the house of the Lord our God I will seek thy good!"
I will be sending out a press release regarding my trip to Israel and if you'd like, I can email a copy to you as well. If your schedule permits, I'd love to share as an AIEF African American Leader, minister and representative, more of my experience with your ministry or church in the near future. Many, many powerful revelations were birthed in the spirit while I was there...One thing is very certain; we are seeing the scriptures unfold right before our eyes. I believe now more than ever, it's vital for us as Christian leaders in our communities to stay abreast of events in the nation that God loves so dearly - Israel - and to pray for her peace.
