Welcome

Dedicated volunteers worked hard to raise enough money to re-develop our community park!

Jack Purcell Park, serves the needs of Elgin Street Public School, Jack Purcell Community Centre and all children living in downtown Ottawa.

The following goals will be completed this summer 2011:

1) Implement an Accessible Play Structure and Accessible Surfacing for children of all abilities ages 0-12.

2) Yard Beautification- Through Tree Planting. Our yard consists of 100% ash tree species. The Emerald Ash Borer is a non-native, highly destructive wood-boring beetle that feeds under the bark of ash trees. All species of ash are susceptible to attack and death. EAB poses a major environmental threat to urban areas in Ottawa.

3) Implement mini-soccer field, allowing children the opportunity to participate in team sport. Participation and access to team sports is vital to healthy social, physical and emotional development.

Accessibility is the assurance that persons with disabilities may travel to locations where specific measures/adaptations have been put in place, where a site and its facilities that can be approached, entered, and used by people, including those with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities and to create a general level of usability for children with disabilities. Accessible playgrounds are designed to meet the needs of children and families of all abilities. The playground will enable children and parents of all abilities to play together.

WE DID IT!!!

Thank you to everyone in our community who assisted us with achieveing our goal! Please come by and see our re-developed park this summer 2011.
