Yesterday the Camp NaNoWriMo (national novel writers month) site went live and I am so happy about that. I have set up my profile and my novel info. Here is the synopsis of the novel I will be working on:
Title: Facade
Synopsis:
Robbie and Keith Pierce are born in Tupelo, Mississippi on June 6, 1935. Robbie goes on to become a rockstar while Keith remains a farmhand. After a few years of touring, Robbie demands a vacation and travels north to New york. He is in New York City but the rush of the city becomes more than Robbie can handle. he longs for quiet and solitude. He jumps in a car and drives into Northern New York. His car breaks down on Sulpher Springs Road. With a leather jacket slung over his shoulder, he walks three miles down the road to the nearest house. This is where Robbie meets Christine Duncan, a good old country girl. Robbie becomes so involved in Christine’s life on the family farm that he pushes his music career out of his mind. He has found something more important to him than music.
Robbie’s brother Keith becomes concerned when Robbie doesn’t come home in the time frame he said he would be home. Keith sets out to find Robbie and tracks him down. Keith is already jealous of Robbie’s fame, but becomes enraged with jealousy when he finds Robbie with a girl (Christine). Keith feels Robbie gets everything so easily when he, Keith, has to fight for everything. Keith gets his brother to return home and continue his singing career saying that he would bring Christine on the next flight back to Tupelo. Robbie agrees to return home. However, Christine is blind to what’s happening. Robbie returns home, but Keith remains at Christine’s side and pretends to be Robbie. At first Christine believes in Keith’s facade, but the longer the relationship goes on, the more Christine sees things that are not characteristic of Robbie. It’s not until Christine watches a television concert at one of her friend’s place does she spot Robbie on TV. It is then she puts things together and uses her friend’s phone and calls Robbie’s home. She leaves a message with Robbie’s dad, but will Robbie receive her message and save Christine from Keith’s destructive grasp?

The current book I"m reading on my Kindle is Elvis and Gladys. Yes, folks. I am a big Elvis Presley fan, give thanks to my mother for that. I have read a few Elvis books already, but this book, though I"m about halfway through it, has really opened my eyes into the background of Elvis and where his family came from. As you start the book, and read along, you can follow how his family stemming form the line of Mansells on his mother's side, are part Scott-Irish and Cherokee. They worked on farms to earn a living and moved around quite a bit. Gladys Smith stood out from her siblings and was more of the free spirit always dancing and loving music. When her father died suddenly, she regressed into her listless and became withdrawn. His death hit her hard. Gladys dated several men but obviously they were never that serious or if they were, Gladys didn't love the men the way they loved her. Not until she met Vernon Presley. She fell head overheals for this handsome young man who was then only 19 and she about four years older. Vernon was never a man to stick to one job but moved around alot doing odd jobs here and odd jobs there. Gladys had held down a job previous to having Elvis at the Tupelo Garment Factory where she made many friends.
On January 8, 1935, Gladys went into labor. Vernon, the doctor and several friends were around to witness the birth of Jesse Garon, the first of the twins, was delivered still born. The doctor did not think Gladys was going to have another baby, but Gladys told him she was having the same pains she did before. A lady beside Gladys put her hand on Gladys' stomach and told the doctor there was another baby on the way. Elvis was born several minutes after Jesse. Elvis, throughout his life would always think of Jesse and wonder why he survived and Jesse died. Yet at the same time, he felt some kind of power from being the survivor.
Gladys bonded with her baby like mothers do to their children, but she bonded in such a way that it was detrimental. She was afraid to leave Elvis alone with anyone for fear of him being abused and she wouldn't be there to stop it. She bonded so closely to Elvis that her relationship with Vernon suffered. Elvis was her life and anytime they were apart it devastated Gladys and she would become depressed.
And well....that is about where I left off. But so far the book is great and I really am understanding Elvis's life and character better than before.
I'll write more when I finish the book. I just had to write what was on my mind before I forgot it. Part 2 will come soon.
While I am waiting for my husband to turn my book Perceptions of the Curious mind, a poetry and lyric book, into an Epub format, I am working on getting the hardcover into print and making a paperback copy for those who like paperback books. Also, this book is already available in Kindle format. Here is the link if you have a Kindle:
Well I have decided to self publish whatever writing I do. After hearing about Borders closing 100 stores nationwide doesn't sound good for bookstores in general. And the commercial publishing market is even harder to get into now because people are even more afraid of taken risks. My hubby has decided to take care of the business/IT part of the job while I just focus on my writing. We'll see what happens.
The first book I plan on promoting is a collection of poetry and lyrics called Perceptions of the Curious Mind. Right now it is only available in hardcover, but we are looking to make it available in paperback as well as ebook. I will keep everyone updated on where we are with this book and where you can purchase a copy if you are interested.
Lately, I have been submitting work to the website www.writing.com so people can review my work and let me know what does and doesn't work before I send the story off for publication. Here is my url if you would like to read some of my writing: http://Writing.Com/authors/jisoucie
I have stopped writing articles for the time being and have focused more on writing fiction such as short stories. I love period pieces and fantasy. I have also decided to dabble with fanfiction. There are some movies out there that just don't end the way I want them to or I wonder what happens next. So I write out what I think will happen next. Even though I can't publish the fanfiction pieces, they are good writing exercises for me. I have been working on a piece that takes place after Edward Scissorhands ends, because I just didn't like how it ended. It needed a happier ending for me. When I am done writing that story I will post on writing.com under my portfolio and you can read it there and review it if you'd like. I'll write again soon.
