I planted some squash and gourd seeds on our deck and couldn't figure out why they weren't sprouting. I had a feeling a mouse was eating them, but no evidence. Tonight, I did a "stake out" and sure enough...I was right! Hmmmm....if Jason thought Mickey was bad, what's he going to think about this little guy?

During the downpour, I had seen a dead branch break off of the top of our neighbor's cottonwood tree, but through the rain, it looked like it fell into their backyard...but no, it fell on top of our corn.

I was able to stand most of the corn stalks back up, after I removed the branch. Some of them are broken, though. Jason and I had planned on removing the ears tonight, anyway.

Strong winds blew our tomato plant over. I adjusted the cage back into the ground and it didn't appear that the plant took any damage.

We have been consistently hitting between 100-105 degrees for the last 27 days without any rain. At this point, we are just trying to keep the grass alive. Our veg garden is handling it very well - the butterfly garden, not-so-much. Our water bill is going to be HUGE!

This is a close-up picture of the cracked trunk on our sycamore tree. Since the July-3 storm, the crack has continued to spread downward and we are worried that strong winds would break off the whole top of our tree.

The tree service came out this morning and trimmed our tree back in hopes of preventing more damage to the crack that is in the tree's trunk. I am a little surprised that they didn't take off more. Hopefully, this will work and the tree can start to repair itself.

There is no shortage of squash here! Our squash plants have been a huge success this year! So far, we have enjoyed them sauteed and grilled. They are also good in stir fry's and salads.

Our plants are still recovering. One of the tomato plants isn't doing too well. The squash recovered wonderfully and is starting to produce.
