Still in search of forever home!
Jersey continues to do great but is still in search of his forever home. He is a very happy boy and loves posing for the camera. While outside yesterday he was looking especially cute (he was hanging out in the "digging pit"!) so I had to run in and grab my camera. There are also some new pics of him after he destroyed a toy - he loves his toys!
The last several weeks I've been having a pretty hard time dealing with the loss of our beloved boy Tiggy; though he passed away on May 22nd, the pain of losing him is still so real for me. There have been many nights when I've needed some quiet time so I go in my office (a/k/a Jersey's room!) to hang out with Jersey -- he lets me cuddle up next to him and have a good cry. Jersey is such a sweet & loving boy who has been through so much and deserves a family to call his very own. Though I will miss him terribly when he finds that home, I will be forever grateful to the family that opens their heart and home to him.
Sorry for getting so "sappy" !!
Think happy thoughts for sweet Jersey :-)
Hugs,
Kristi
Jersey Video
I just added a very short video of Jersey -- check it out :-)
UPDATED "All About Jersey" Page
Jersey's "All About Jersey" page has finally been updated! Please check it out.
FINALLY ... A NEW UPDATE!!
WOW, I cannot believe how long it has been since I’ve posted an update! I try to post new pictures every now and then, but I have been extremely lazy with getting updates out.
YES … Jersey is still with us; and NO … we are not keeping him ☺
Jersey continues to do great. Since my last update he has gone on a couple outings with his friends and his former daddy Mike has come to visit him – Mike sure does have a knack at finding the nosiest, most obnoxious toys and smelliest treats for Jersey!! LOL Jersey gets so excited when he sees a familiar face (I think he gets bored w/me!) and he especially loves getting new toys and treats!!
Jersey started to get a little “chunky” so I changed his food and cut down a little on his treats -- it may just be my imagination, but I do think he has dropped a pound or two since. He also started to seem a bit stiff and/or sore in the mornings so I started him on supplements for any joint/muscle pain he may be having; it’s only been a couple weeks but it does seem to be working – he is definitely perkier when I wake him up every morning --- though there are still days (especially gloomy, rainy mornings) when he doesn’t want to budge. I can totally relate to how he’s feeling so I just let him be – if I could, I would be sleeping in on those mornings too!!
I am hoping to update the “All About Jersey” page this evening; I can tell that a bunch of people have clicked on to that page and I feel bad that there’s been nothing there for them to read!
Thanks to all of his friends for asking about him every time I see you – I always make sure to pass along your well wishes to him.
Hugs,
Kristi (& Jersey)
Loving the Outdoors
Jersey spent about an hour and a half outside with me today as I was doing yard work. My neighbor's dog was "taunting" him on the other side of the fence - Jersey barked for a little bit and then laid down in the sun - such a good boy! He had fun chasing the tennis ball a couple times - it is so darn cute watching him romp around with the ball!!! He also found one of the holes that my girl Dee was working on earlier; I know I shouldn't let him dig holes, but he was having so much fun and looked so happy digging away that all I could do was stand back and smile! He stuck his head in the hole and laid in the cool soil for a while. I know I've said it before, but it is SO great watching him having the chance to "just be a dog." I don't think he's ever had a yard "of his own" and there is no doubt that he is enjoying having the freedom to roam around.
He is scheduled to meet a new friend on Tuesday evening. If all goes well, he will then meet her doggie this coming Saturday (28th). Please keep all fingers crossed that things go well!!!
I'm planning on doing some more yard work tomorrow so Jersey will get to enjoy some more sunshine and maybe even get to dig a new hole. LOL

Fun Time at the Park
Jersey, Joette and I got to Congress Park shortly after Noon today. The Park looked completely different than the last time we were there - i.e., no more snow! Jersey was very happy to be able to walk around and sniff everything in sight. While there, he saw (from a distance) other doggies and even some ducks that were walking around -- he wasn't really too interested in anything other than the smelly ground!!! Because he only has three legs to get around on, he does like to stop every once in a while to sit or lay down for a quick (well, sometimes long!) rest. I try to give him as much time as he needs to rest up; however, when I think that it is only his stubbornness getting in the way I do give him a little tug on his leash, which seems to work -- when it doesn't, then I know he is tired and not just being stubborn :-)
During the walk his friend Mike joined us. As soon as Jersey saw him he picked up the pace to say hello. Mike brought Jersey a new toy -- a "wiggly ball", which Jersey enjoyed tearing apart once in the car. While Joette, Mike and I were talking by the car we were watching as Jersey tore off the rubber cover from the toy. Jersey is such a good boy as far as me taking things out of his mouth so he wasn't able to chew and/or swallow any of it!! On the way home I was playing with the toy while at a traffic light -- well, I wish I didn't! I hit a button on the ball and it did not stop vibrating the entire drive home - it's probably still going strong right now!!
Jersey jumped out of the car as soon as we got back to my house and went right upstairs for a nap. I am sure he is sleeping soundly and dreaming about the fun time he had this afternoon with his friends at the park!

Jersey & Me
Loving the Warmer Weather
Jersey had a fun day yesterday with his good friend Lucy; I dropped him off around 11 a.m. and he got to spend the afternoon taking walks, chasing a tennis ball in her yard, and relaxing on her comfy furniture! By the time I picked him up he was ready for a nap :-) As you all know, he LOVES hanging out with friends and being out and about - he may enjoy spending time lounging around and being a big couch potato, but he is also quite the social butterfly!
He and I spent about an hour and a half out back this afternoon. He spent time playing with his tennis ball, "talking" to the dogs in the neighborhood, and just enjoying the fresh air and warm breezes while I cleaned up all the "winter poop" in the yard! By the time we went inside he was ready for dinner, dessert and a nap. In my next life I definitely want to be a dog!!!
A wonderful family is interested in meeting Jersey -- we are hoping to be able to meet this coming weekend. If all goes well, he would have his own mom, dad and 10-year old Chow mix sister! Please keep your fingers crossed that their meeting goes well :-)
Jersey sends kisses to all of his friends -- he sure has enough kisses to go around!!!
Hugs,
Kristi
Walk in the Park
Jersey had a great day! He and I picked Joette up around 12:30 and headed over to Congress Park in Saratoga. Jersey led us all over the park -- he was having a great time!! I took a few pictures of him during the walk - they are not very good! The last thing Jersey wanted to do was sit still for a picture - there were way too many things to sniff and keep his attention! After about a half hour we headed back to the car. Jersey didn't want the walk to end; however, when he got in the car he laid right down for a nap!! Joette and I grabbed a bite to eat while Jersey napped in the car. He was still pretty tired when we arrived back home - it took him a few minutes to fully wake up and come inside. Once inside, he headed right to the stairs to go upstairs to that he could continue his nap!!!
Such a sweet boy :-)
Fun with a friend
Jersey got to go on an outing yesterday with his friend Lucy. He and I met her at Petco in Clifton Park around 1:30 -- we didn't go inside, but he had fun walking around the parking lot and grassy area before hopping in Lucy's car for an afternoon of fun! I am sure Lucy will fill everyone in on their activities of the afternoon -- he no doubt had a great time because when I picked him up around 7:30 he was exhausted!! When we arrived back at my house Jersey did not want to get out of the car! I left the doors open for him and after about 15 minutes he wandered inside -- it must have been getting a little too cold in the garage for him! He hung out downstairs for a little bit and then finally headed upstairs for the evening.
He got up this morning around 9:30, had his breakfast, went out for a potty break and is now sleeping next to me on the couch. This sweet boy wants nothing more than to be with people!
Another Good Week for Jersey
Jersey had a great week, although the highlight of his week was definitely on Wednesday when both Mike and Joette were here for a visit -- he just adores company!!!
Mike brought him a very large of bag of rawhides, which he will more than likely be working on for a very long time -- though he did go through quite of bit of them while Mike was here!!! The first time I met Mike he told me how Jersey used to talk to him a lot -- until the other day, he only talked to me on two occasions. Well, when Mike was here, Jersey was talking up a storm!!! Jersey hasn't really talked to me since (even though I've asked him to) -- he must be saving it up for Mike's next visit :-)
Jersey's company was here for about four hours -- he was SO ready for a nap afterwards! In fact, the visit wore him out so much that he didn't get up for breakfast until about 9:30 the next morning!!!
Even though Jersey is enjoying his time here and has been the perfect house guest, I believe his presence is affecting my Delilah. I have noticed a change in her personality over the last couple of weeks and yesterday she and Bogie had a "disagreement" that landed Bogie at the vet. Thankfully Bogie is fine -- he has a couple small puncture wounds on his leg that are already scabbing over. They have had disagreements in the past, but it's been almost a year since the last one. It makes me sad that it happened and the last thing I ever wanted to do was to stress my kids out and have them start fighting because of it :-(
I am hoping that Jersey gets some time away from my house this weekend - even if it's just for a couple of hours. The best thing for him right now is to remain social and experience as many new things as possible. Every passing day that goes by I see more of his sweet, loving personality shine through. He's actually made me laugh out loud when he's playing with toys and rolling all over the place. Such a funny boy!
Jersey sends his love and tons of sloppy kisses to all of his friends :-)
XOXO
A Perfect Passenger
Jersey got very excited when I put his collar on and got his leash out. He headed straight for the garage door and couldn't wait to jump into my car! He enjoyed looking out the window for a while and then settled in and went to sleep. About an hour into the trip I was passing an 18-wheeler and all of a sudden Jersey gives out a couple very loud barks - I practically jumped out of my seat!! He was back sleeping within minutes :-)
When we got to my dad's house Jersey couldn't wait to stretch his legs and go on a walk around the property. There's no snow left on the ground there (I wish I could say that about my house!!!) and they get lots of visits from Deer, so Jersey had a great time walking around sniffing everything in sight! He was nice and tired before I left to go out. I set him up in my dad's office - he had one of his beds and his favorite comforter so he was all set! I gave him a yummy treat before I left and, he must have been very comfortable because, when my friend and I arrived back to the house around 6 hours later Jersey was in the same exact place I left him! Jacqui sat on the floor to give Jersey a hug and Jersey gave her tons of kisses. It was a love fest! When I finally got to bed Jersey curled up right next to me - the only time he moved was to get closer to me and give me a kiss every now and then. Such a love!!
Jersey enjoyed hanging out with Jacqui and I in the morning and took a couple naps on his comforter before we headed home. He didn't make a sound on the drive home - he just curled right up in the back and fell asleep. The perfect passenger :-)
We got home around 5:00 p.m. He had dinner and went right up to bed; I had him out again around 10 p.m. for his final potty break of the evening. The road trip must have tuckered him out because he didn't get up to eat and go out until 9:30 this morning!!
Jersey should be getting several visits this week from some of his friends, which I know he will like :-)
Oh ... as far as the "stair issue" ... this morning after coming in he ran right up them without being asked and without any problem! Progress!!!
Road Trip
Jersey and I are both headed to Poughkeepsie tomorrow. He loves going for rides and we will be staying at my dad's house - the same place he spent the first several days during his recovery - so he should have a good weekend! My parents are going to be away so we will have the house all to ourselves. I'm thinking of taking him on a long walk on the local bike/running path that is right around the corner from my dad's house. I will get him nice and tired so that he sleeps soundly while I am out having a fun time with my friends :-)
Beginning to "master" stairs but missing his friends!
After coming inside from a potty break Jersey headed right to the steps heading upstairs. I already had treats waiting for him on each step and he was more than happy to gobble them right up! Jersey is still having some trouble getting up and has to stop every couple of steps to reposition himself but he is really doing well and I am so proud of him.
Like I said, Jersey is definitely enjoying being in a home environment; however, my dogs are becoming somewhat stressed with him being here -- especially my girl Dee. She's not only had potty accidents in her room while left alone, but she also had one downstairs this afternoon - something she has never done before.
The last couple of days my time with Jersey has pretty much been limited to my office; although he did get a nice visit from Joette yesterday! I can tell that he has been missing his other friends though and hopes that he gets to see them real soon :-)
I am hoping to get some new pics of Jersey tomorrow -- no doubt they will all be of him napping on his new favorite piece of furniture -- the futon in my office!!
Not a huge fan of stairs
Jersey continues to do great in a home environment. The only thing that Jersey does not seem to like are stairs. The couple times he was on overnights while still at Pet Lodge, he only had to go up the stairs once during each visit; now, he has to go up and down them three times a day, which I think is proving to be a bit hard on him. At first I was trying to help him up by giving his little butt a nudge; however, I think it just made matters worse and more uncomfortable for him. Sunday night I decided to put small pieces of treats on each step to help lure him up - it worked but took him a while to maneuver. I do not think that he is being stubborn about going up the stairs, it is quite obvious when watching him that, in fact, it is a struggle for him :-(
The first several nights here he was staying in the guest room. I decided on Sunday night to move him into my office, which he seems to like. He has his two beds, a futon and a TV in there! I am also able to hang out with him while I get some work done, so it's a win/win for the both of us!
I will be going away this weekend (leaving Saturday afternoon/returning Sunday late afternoon). I am hoping that one of Jersey's many friends will be able to take him on an overnight for me Saturday night. I would really appreciate the help and I know that Jersey would love to have a slumber party with a friend!
I continue to hang up fliers and send e-mails out on behalf of Jersey. I hope that his forever family calls soon!!!
Hugs,
Kristi
A happy, playful boy & a HUGE couch potato!
Joette paid Jersey and I a visit today -- what a nice time we all had! Joette called to let me know she had arrived. I put Jersey on his leash and we headed outside to say hello. Well, as soon as he laid eyes on Joette he immediately picked up the pace and couldn't wait to say hello and give kisses out. Once inside, Jersey showed Joette his new "moves" -- the last couple of days he has been rolling all around on his back in pure ectasy -- it's the funniest thing. He finished destroying one of his toys (my Delilah was responsible for destroying most of it!), ate a rawhide that Joette brought for him, and just enjoyed being surrounded by people that he loves. My dogs smile all the time when they sleep; Jersey is sleeping next to me as I write this and it is the first time I have seen Jersey smile while sound asleep - such a beautiful sight.
Please continue passing Jersey's information around to as many people as possible.
XOXO
Kristi (& Jersey)
A Change of Scenery
Well, for those of you that log on Pet Lodge's site religiously to view sweet Jersey, you may have noticed that as of this afternoon his "home" at Lori Mountain is vacant. As a paying customer, I was extremely surprised and offended when a fellow employee at Pet Lodge told me to "take my 'stupid' dog home." Given her hostile attitude toward both me and Jersey, I was concerned about his safety and well being and felt that it was in Jersey's best interest to remove him from the premises. I also decided that it would be in my best interest (as I did not want to return to a hostile work environment) to give my notice, which I did.
I wish I could set up a camera in my guest room so that you could all log on and take a look a Jersey every now and then -- I promise to post new pics as much as I can!! I want Jersey to see his friends as much as possible and will be more than happy to bring him to anyone interested in taking him for walks/short visits/overnights!!! Even though he is going to be in a home environment, it is still so important for him spend as much time with those that he loves. Plus, I STILL NEED TO FIND HIM A FOSTER/FOREVER HOME so I am hoping that people who take him on overnights fall in love and decide they cannot live without him!!!
ANYWAY ... speaking of those that he loves ...
I asked Tracy (at the shelter) on Monday about the possibility of contacting Jersey's former owner so that I could maybe find out more information on him. She left a message that afternoon and, after dropping Jersey off at Pet Lodge after a sleepover on Tuesday morning, I came home to a ringing phone -- it was his former dad. I was both surprised and extremely happy that he called me back. We had a wonderful conversation. I filled him in what Jersey had been through and he shared some funny Jersey stories with me. Unfortunately, Mike fell on hard times and was unable to care for Jersey; he said that giving Jersey up was one of the hardest things he ever had to do. Mike asked if it would be okay to visit with Jersey; at first I was so enthusiastic about it but then I started to worry about what it would do to Jersey -- I didn't want him to have a set-back. After much thought (and a lot of going back & forth!!!) I decided it would be okay; I told Mike I thought it best to meet outside and go for a walk. Thankfully Joette was able to join me during the visit. Things could not have gone better!! Mike had treats and a new toy for Jersey and Jersey had lots of kisses to give to Mike. Mike is a wonderful storyteller and we got to hear some more great stories about Jersey!! There is no doubt that Jersey and Mike had a wonderful life together. Mike's nickname for Jersey is "fat head" - so please be sure to call him that the next time you see Jersey!! Mike is going to try to visit Jersey whenever he can. If he could, I have a feeling that Mike would take Jersey back in a minute. Mike, if you are reading this, both Jersey and I send you a big hug -- you are a very special person.
I cannot forget to thank Annie & her husband for stopping in today with Joette to visit Jersey. Annie & her husband are HUGE supporters of animals in need (Jersey included!!!) and Annie had been checking in on Jersey via video @ Pet Lodge. Today was the first time they all got to meet; I didn't get to see Jersey's initial reaction when meeting Annie but as soon as Annie's husband walked through the door Jersey ran right up to him wagging his tail like mad to say hello!! It is so nice watching Jersey meeting new people - he adores people and there is no resisting Jersey's sweet face!
Well ... I apologize for the length of this message but I had lots to fill you in on! I posted some new pics -- they are of Mike & Jersey and then of Jersey having fun with the toy Mike brought him!
Thank you all for your continued love and support.
Hugs,
Kristi (& Jersey a/k/a "fat head"!!)
Surprise Sleepover!
I stopped in to visit Jersey around 4:30 and decided he deserved another night away!! After playing with some new toys and chewing on some tasty treats, he is now sleeping like a baby next to me on the couch! His sweet personality comes out more and more every time he comes for a visit. I took some new picture of him tonight -- he really could not get much cuter!!!
I truly cannot believe that someone has not snatched this precious boy up yet!!
JERSEY IS NOW ON PETFINDER!!
I cannot remember if I mentioned this before -- Jersey's friend Tracy at the Saratoga Shelter was kind enough to post Jersey on the shelter's PetFinder site!
Jersey's "pet id" on PetFinder is: 12991134
The link to Jersey's PetFinder page is:
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12991134
A happy boy
Jersey went up to bed around 11:30; I put classical music on for him and he curled right up on his bed. I woke him up around 7:30 this morning; he had breakfast and a big treat which took him quite some time to finish up -- I took pictures of him working away on it! He finally went out to go potty -- it is SO cold out there this morning!! After coming in he laid down right in front of the fire!
He has a great day ahead!! He's getting a visit from Janel late morning and then Lucy is going to take him on an overnight tonight!! Lucy said she has lots of doggie beds around the house and tons of toys for him to play with; if Jersey doesn't mind, she is even going to give him a bath :-) I am sure both Janel and Lucy will give everyone updates on how their visits with sweet Jersey go!
Sleepover night
I was going to take Jersey on an outing to my house tomorrow morning but thought that he would like to have a sleepover tonight instead :-) Right now he is pretty comfortable laying on the couch next to me. When we arrived he jumped right out of the car and headed straight for the door with his tail wagging a mile a minute; he ran right over and greeted Joe and didn't stop wagging his tail until he laid down! He really is such a good boy in the house. I'll try to get some pictures of him while he is here tonight. His friend Janel is scheduled to visit with him tomorrow morning at 10:30 so I will be sure to have him back in time -- I know he is going to be very happy to see her!
Having fun but still waiting for forever home!
Jersey continues to enjoy his play dates and taking long walks - although yesterday it was a little too cold for him - after "doing his business" he headed straight for the door!
Yesterday he got a visit from his friend Cathy; it was the first time she's seen him in a couple of weeks - she was very impressed with his progress. She was working on the "sit" command - he was more interested in just getting the treats! He did show her how good he is at destroying toys in 10 seconds flat -- which is something he has totally mastered!
His best buddy Janel has been sick all week and hasn't been able to visit with him :-( She is feeling better though and will be stopping in tomorrow for a play date - I have no doubt that she will be showered with tons of kisses when he sees her :-)!!!!
I just got word from Lucy -- another wonderful friend -- that she wants to take him on an overnight tomorrow (Sat.) -- what a great weekend this is turning out to be for sweet Jersey!
So what if it's cold out ... let's go for a walk!
Jersey had a play date with Joette this morning and, as usual, had a grand 'ol time with all of his toys! He was napping when it was time for me to leave work but I wanted to take him on a little walk before I headed home. He was more than happy to get up for me and was raring to go when I put his leash on! We went on a short walk and then headed inside; he is now used to going into the daycare room to play and headed right to it! Unfortunately, there was a doggie in there so we were not able to play. He wasn't ready to go back into his kennel, so we walked around inside for a bit. One of the day care doggies was in a kennel in "his area" and Jersey wanted to say hello. I was expecting a barking fit to take place; however, he and the other dog (Dino) sniffed at each other politely through the kennel door - all the time Jersey's tail wagged; I was very proud of him (and Dino) for not barking at each other :-) After that he still wasn't ready to go back in his kennel so we took another walk outside -- I was freezing, but Jersey was loving the fact he was outside. He stopped several times, put his head to the sky and just enjoyed taking in the fresh air! At one point he stopped and was sniiffing at a spot in the snow - well, whatever it was must have smelled really good because he jumped right in and started digging! He didn't come up with anything but sure had fun searching. He then pooped and was ready to go in for another nap. His friend Janel is scheduled to stop in for a visit tonight; I am sure they will have a great visit!
Jersey continues to get stronger every day. I HOPE HIS FOREVER FAMILY COMES ALONG SOON!!
A Lover of Toys, Indeed!
Jersey loves tennis balls, rubber toys, plush toys, rope toys -- Jersey loves any kind of toy, period! Everyone that visits brings different toys for him to play with so he never gets bored with the same toy :-) He loves toys so much that he sometimes swallows little pieces of them, which he did yesterday. He woke up with a little belly ache and threw up a small piece of toy this morning - he is fine and was back to his sweet, playful self in no time. He had play dates with Joette, me and Lucy today. By the time Lucy arrived around 5:30 he was a little tired but still had enough energy to play with some toys, take a nice long walk and help Lucy "tuck him in" for the night. I was watching on-line as Lucy was fixing one of his beds - he kept trying to help and they were playing "hide-n-seek" with one of his blankets -- it was so adorable! Lucy gave him a very yummy treat when she left, which Jersey continued to enjoy long after she left :-)
Let's Play!
Jersey has been having the time of his life getting to play a couple times a day w/his favorite people and new toys! I had my camera with me today and took a couple action shots of Jersey -- they are blurry because he was moving so fast!! I discovered today that he knows how to sit for treats - I actually didn't even have to ask for a sit -- I had a treat in my hand and held it up so I could get a cute shot of that precious face of his and he sat right down for me!
At one point Joette was getting a new toy out of her little "bag of tricks" and apparently she wasn't moving fast enough -- Jersey's tail was wagging a mile of a minute and he started to bark as if to say "hurry up" -- as soon as Joette got the toy out of the bag and threw it Jersey was running like a mad man after it! His playful side has definitely come out this week :-)
Jersey's New Digs @ Pet Lodge
Jersey is now a resident of Lori Mountain. When I was done setting it up he walked right in and laid down :-)
He had another fun visit with Joette today. She brought him some more squeaky toys to play with (good thing for the Dollar Store!!) He ran around the day care room for about a half hour chasing and chewing on his new toys. After playing and a short walk he was ready for a nap! I gave him one of his new yummy treats and he went into his kennel with no problem! Maybe he did need a change of scenery!!
I'm going to be out of town all day Saturday and won't be able to see him at all :-( He will get a couple short visits from a few friends so that he doesn't get too bored! I'm hoping they post a comment after their visit so everyone knows how he did :-)
Don't forget to log on and take a look a sweet Jersey -- remember, he's now in "Lori Mountain."
Thanks!
Kristi
QUICK NOTE: I wasn't able to go back to see Jersey this afternoon so logged on to see his precious face; I noticed there was pee in his kennel so called right up and asked them to take him out (they must think I am such a pain!!); I watched to see how he would be going back in his kennel and he went right in w/o a problem. YAY!!
Relaxing & Doing Well
Jersey is doing well and has had some fun time outside of his kennel the last couple of days. Yesterday he and I had fun in one of the large day care rooms - he chased around a couple of balls and took the stuffing out of his long, green fuzzy toy that he got from my mom. He played with it a few times in his kennel; however, he became very interested in it as soon as I brought it into the room for him.
Today he had a great visit from Joette; they played in the small day care room with a bunch of toys; he took the stuffing out of a couple new toys and loved playing with a rubber squeaky toy. This afternoon he got to go on a nice walk with a Lucy & Janel - he is getting so good at walking and just wants to keep going when he's out of his kennel! I still want to keep visits to a minimum and will be monitoring how many visitors he gets. I know that it's good for him to be out of his kennel as much as possible, but I also do not want him to overdo things again.
He is still being a bit stubborn when it comes to going back into his kennel. I am going to try to keep treats to a minimum for now and only give them to him when he enters his kennel. I am going to be moving him to a new kennel tomorrow afternoon - I think a "change of scenery" will do him good; it will still be a kennel w/a camera in it and will be sure to let you all know what one to log onto. I know that being in a home would be best for him right now - he definitely needs structure and an authority figure in his life --- I wish I could give him everything he needs, but I cannot.
Hugs & kisses to all from Jersey.
Happy & Doing Well
I spent a good amount of time with Jersey both this morning and afternoon today; he seems to be happy and is doing well. I took him into one of the day care rooms this afternoon - he had a great time running around playing with his tennis ball!
I think he's gotten a little too used to having the "run of the place" so it's been a little challenging getting him back in his kennel - I've had to practically drag him back in!
Jersey sends hugs and kisses to everyone and thanks you all for your continued love & support.
xoxo
A Small Bump in the Road to Recovery
Many thanks for all the love and time you have showered on Jersey. For those that have spent time with him, I know that we all agree he is a very special boy. This past weekend was very "busy" for Jersey and, unfortunately, I think we may have put him under some stress. He was in a situation that upset him on Sunday evening and he reacted inappropriately. Because of what happened, I am asking that he not get visitors for the next week or so. Please be assured that Jersey, as well as everyone involved is fine. It is important for all of us to make sure we do not set Jersey up to fail as we search for his forever home. We obviously did not know how Jersey's new life on three legs would also involve his behavior. We assumed that his ability to walk and get around meant that he had healed from the ordeal of surgery, but sadly this is not so. We owe it to him now to do what we can to help him through this. I know your love and support is still there with us and I thank you for your kindness and good wishes.
I am going to keep everyone as up-to-date as possible on Jersey's progress over the next week or so. I know that many of you have spent a lot of time with Jersey since his surgery. Please know that you can contact me at any time for "personal" updates on his progress. My e-mail address is: puppydogtales@live.com
Hugs to all,
Kristi
Perfect Overnight Guest :-)
Jersey was our house guest on Friday night and was the perfect gentleman! Jersey and I got to the house around 8 p.m.; I had picked up dinner on the way home and Jersey was such a good boy as we were eating - he laid quietly on one of the doggie beds and chewed away on a bone. After dinner he curled up on the couch with me for a nap -- unlike my own dogs, he actually left some room on the couch for me to get comfortable on!! Ha Ha
Around Midnight Jersey and I ventured upstairs to the guest room. He was a little hesitant about the stairs; however, as soon as I put his leash on he went right up them like a pro! He slept on the doggie bed on the floor for a while and then wanted to come up with me; the bed is a little high so I helped him up - once up, he curled up and went to sleep. He woke up a couple times throughout the night to stretch/move and was sleeping again w/in minutes. When I went to let my kids out in the morning I left him in the room; a couple minutes later I heard a big "thud" -- it was him jumping off the bed! I ran up to make sure he was okay - when I opened the door he was standing there wagging his tail w/a big smile on his face :-)
The adoption event went well today. Jersey got a lot of company; however, most of it was from his old friends at the shelter. A few "outside" people stopped in to say hi, but no one that was looking to adopt. He had fun running up and down the isle chasing a tennis ball and loved all of the attention; when I left him around 4 p.m. he seemed to be pretty tired and I am sure will get a good night's sleep!
Cathy is planning on taking him to Bon Ton @ Wilton Mall for some exposure some time this week. Because he adores people, I know that he is going to have a great time greeting everyone with a kiss and wag of his tail. I am also hoping that he gets to meet Chance some time this week and that all goes well with the meeting. Of course I will keep you all posted on how that goes!
Thanks again to everyone for being so wonderful and for caring like you do!
Hugs,
K
Stitches out and feeling better!
I was very worried about Jersey yesterday so called the vet first thing this morning to see if they could fit him in -- they could! Rather than being "weary" of the vet's office he marched right in and couldn't wait to say hello to everyone :-) Not only did he get his stitches out, but he got a complete bill of health as well. They swabbed his ears to make sure there was nothing icky going on there and all he had was some wax in them - yay! He was a little uncomfortable when she started taking the stitches out so she put a muzzle on him and got a third person to help us out. He hates the muzzle so much and cried when we put him on his side :-( He calmed down after a minute and the stitches came out in no time. She said he may have been a bit out of it yesterday because he had finished his "major" pain meds the day before; he is still on Rimadyl (which is an anti-inflammatory/pain pill) - she gave me some more of that just in case he needs it. On our way back from the vet we stopped in at the shelter so that he could visit with his friend Tracy. She was very happy to see him and was impressed with how great he looks. I wasn't going to bring him in the lobby at the shelter but he insisted! There is a little box in the lobby with free stuff in it - i.e., toys, leashes, etc. Well, Jersey put his head in the box, fished around a little, and came out with a small toy. It was so cute!!
I still plan on bringing Jersey home with me tomorrow night -- I think he might enjoy a night in front of the fire :-) I am also thinking of trying to give him a bath so that he is all nice and clean for Saturday's adoption event! I want to give the vet a call first just to make sure it's okay.
Because Jersey's stitches came out today, he will be at Pet Lodge all day tomorrow (until around 6 p.m., which is when I plan on picking him up) and is looking forward to visitors :-)
Not quite himself today :-(
I got to Pet Lodge a little before 1:00 today -- Jersey seemed to be a bit depressed when I arrived. He hadn't eaten his breakfast and didn't even get up to say hello :-( I opened up a new can of food for him, which he did gobble up -- pretty sure he is getting a bit spoiled as he seems to eat only if I'm holding the dish or hand feeding him! Kelly arrived shortly after I did and Jersey finally came out to say hello. She spent about an hour with him; I am sure he enjoyed being able to walk around and get a belly rub from Kelly!
Unfortunately Jersey isn't going to get to meet Chance this Saturday. I talked to Chance's mom today; Chance is getting neutered on Friday so will probably be too sore to meet Jersey on Saturday. She offered to bring Chance over today, but I didn't think it would be a good idea for Jersey to meet an un-neutered male right now. I am probably being a bit cautious but better safe than sorry, I think. If Jersey doesn't get adopted on Saturday at the adoption clinic (which, I hope he does!!!), he and Chance will meet some time next week/weekend.
I was just talking to Joe about Jersey and he thinks that maybe he is in a bit of discomfort because he stopped his pain meds yesterday. I didn't even think of that! I also noticed that he has been shaking his head a lot and when I rub one of his ears he seems to be in heaven -- I am also thinking that he may have an ear infection. I don't think I will be able to get him in tomorrow to see the vet; however, he does have his appointment on Friday afternoon and he'll get a complete exam at that point. Joe and I both agree that Jersey would enjoy staying at our house on Friday night; we will put our "kids" upstairs so Jersey can make himself at home. He should be nice and rested for Saturday's adoption event!!
I adore him so much and my heart breaks every night when I say goodbye to him. I hope his new family comes along soon!
******
Lucy ... thank you for your post. Jersey loves treats and can eat pretty much anything at this point! We will probably head out around 2:30 on Friday for his vet appointment; feel free to stop in any time before then to visit with him. He will be SO happy to see you!!
Such an Angel :-)
Have I mentioned lately how much I adore this precious boy?! I really wasn't able to spend much time with him today but I treasure every single minute w/him that I get.
Jersey may be meeting with his foster family on Saturday. About a month ago they adopted Bart (n/k/a Chance) from the Saratoga Shelter; they are now interested in opening their hearts and home to Jersey until he finds him forever home. If Jersey and Chance get along, Jersey may be off to his foster home very soon! Paws crossed that all goes well.
Enjoying his bone!
Jersey had lots of company today and was pretty tired when I arrived; however, not too tired to continue to enjoy one of the bones Joette made for him!! I finally remembered my camera and took a couple pictures of him chewing the bone and licking his chops after! A very happy boy indeed :-)
ADOPTION CLINIC ON SATURDAY
Jersey continues to get better by the minute! He is having a great time hanging out with everyone at Pet Lodge - they absolutely adore him!
I am hoping to get his stitches removed on Friday afternoon; as far as I can tell, they look great and should be ready to come out. I'm going to make an appointment for Friday and if they can be removed then, great - if not, I am sure Jersey won't mind going back - he loves road trips! I will keep you all posted on that.
There is an Adoption Clinic at the Clifton Park Pet Lodge this Saturday (24th) from Noon to 3 pm. Jersey, as well as dogs from the Saratoga Shelter will be "showcased." Please let all your family and friends know about the clinic -- it would be a great chance to not only meet (and maybe adopt!) sweet Jersey but to also meet other wonderful doggies who are looking for their forever homes.
*****
Patti ... I LOVE the picture of Woody and Mikey! I know that Woody waited so long for his forever family to come along - they say that "all good things come to those that wait" - that sure seems to be the case with Woody! I am so happy that he found you guys :-)
Sleepy Boy
I am so jealous .... every time I log on to sneak a peek at Jersey he is sleeping like a baby! If only I could catch up on some much-needed sleep :-) Ha Ha
I went in last night around 11:30 and spent about an hour with him - he spent most of that time devouring one of the yummy bones that Joette made for him! Before I left I tried putting the E-collar on him; he laid down and pawed at it every time I tried to put it on - he sure can be a stubborn little boy! After a couple tries I gave him a kiss and told him to be good & not lick/chew his stitches. I am happy to report that he listened :-) After about three hours of sleep I was back up and off to Pet Lodge again; when I got there around 5:30 a.m. he was sound asleep (with stitches untouched!) so I cuddled up with him for a while :-)
Joette & Kelly are planning another visit this afternoon - hopefully he gets up from his nap to visit with them! Ha Ha
If you want to check out sleepy boy for yourself, Pet Lodge's site is:

If you don't see him he's probably snoozing in his crate; I put a big plush [orthopedic] bed in it yesterday which he seems to LOVE!
Kelly ... thank you for posting the pics you took of him yesterday!
Jersey @ Pet Lodge
Jersey seems to have settled in nicely at Pet Lodge. After spending the last three days with him pretty much 24/7 I missed him so much while I was working today! He definitely has a very comfy set-up there! I left around 7:30 tonight and he was curled up in his crate -- I didn't have the heart to put his E-collar on before I left - I didn't want to disturb him! I am going back tonight around 11:30 to give him another pain med and will try to put it on then - the last thing I want is for him to chew on his stitches when no one is around.
He was very happy to see Kelly and Joette today, and I know that he is looking forward to visits from some more of his Shelter friends :-) Everyone at Pet Lodge knows that Jersey may be getting visitors so there is no need for me to be there when that happens. I don't work again until Wednesday, but plan on visiting with him every day. If he continues to do as well as he's been doing, I am hoping that his stitches can come out on Friday.
Jersey's New Friend
My best friend Jacqui came to meet Jersey today. Even though he was pretty comfortable on the down comforter in front of the fire Jersey got right up to greet Jacqui and give her kisses :-)
He continues to be a good boy as far as taking his meds and, I'm happy to report, has had a couple more bowel movements w/no problem! I promise that will be the last time I talk about his bowel movements. Ha Ha
He seems to be a little hesitant today as far as getting on the futon - I think he may have overdone it a little the last couple of days.
Though I know he is going to be okay staying at Pet Lodge, I so wish I could stay here with him until his stitches come out. I may have to "bunk" with him at Pet Lodge for a couple days! :-)
A Good Day!
Around Noon I was starting to get a little worried because Jersey was totally uninterested in food - that is until I found some cream cheese! I was able to give him his meds in the cream cheese and a few hours after that he had a huge appetite and was more than happy to eat up everything I gave him :-) Finally, around 7 tonight he had a bowel movement. It's crazy but I was so excited and couldn't praise him enough! I think he was pretty proud of himself as well :-)
My mom stopped in today for a bit to meet and visit with him. She was extremely impressed with how good he is getting around. She brought him a big squeaky toy, which he was actually throwing around a few hours ago. I am also happy to report that he started giving kisses again today.
I am going to sign off for now - he just woke up from a nap and is looking at me as if to say "all that typing is very distracting -- put the computer down and pay attention to me." :-)
Good morning
Jersey had a good night last night. Even though he was up every couple of hours to reposition himself (and me!) I still think he got a good night's sleep. He has mastered the art of peeing w/three legs but has yet to have a bowel movement. He's not very hungry this morning (he tried burying his breakfast!) and has figured out all my "tricks" as far as giving him his medicine, so he hasn't had any painkillers since around 9 o'clock last night. Other than shoving the pills down his throat, I've run out of ideas! So, if anyone has their own special tricks I could try let me know!
I posted some new pics I took last night. I did take one where you can see his wound - the area was still a little swollen & red so I made it a black & white picture :-)
Out of the Hospital & Doing Great!
Jersey is one amazing boy!!! He and I were on the road today around Noon. He had a little help getting into my car from a couple of the girls who work at the vet; once in, he pretty much settled right down and slept during the two hour drive. He is a little bit [well, a lot!] of a whiner, but can you blame him?! Other than the whining he is doing fantastic. He got out of the car all by himself and was ready for a walk to investigate his new surroundings. I've had him out a couple times since we've been here and it's getting to the point where I almost have to keep up with him! He just finished up a big bowl of hamburger (to go with the Wendy's hamburger he had for lunch on our way down!) and is sleeping peacefully next to me on the couch - yes, he jumped right up w/no problem! Despite the pain he is in he seems to be very happy - when he gets up to walk around his tail wags like crazy :-)
The vet would prefer that he not be in a home w/dogs until his stitches are removed. So, when we get back to the Capital District on Saturday Jersey will be staying in a Luxury Kennel at Pet Lodge in Clifton Park for a week or so. I work there and, even when not working, I will be sure to spend as much time with him as possible. I have no doubt that he would be VERY HAPPY to get visits (and maybe even a walk) from his Shelter friends while he's at Pet Lodge! They are open from 6:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Mon - Sat. He's going to be a kennel that has a camera; as soon as I find out which one, I will let you know so you can take a peek at him on-line!
I'll send out another update tomorrow, as well as some new pictures. I wish I had my camera right now so I could take a picture and you could all see how comfortable & relaxed he is right now. I love this boy!
Visit w/Jersey
I sat with Jersey in his kennel for about 45 minutes this afternoon. He has a large shaved area on his lower back -- with all the spots he has you would swear he's part Dalmatian! He was pretty out of it when I was there, though I have no doubt that he knew who I was. He ate a little baby food for me and, after a lot of whining, finally put his head on my lap and fell asleep. He has an Elizabethan Collar on so he does not try to lick his stitches, which he seems to be okay with. One of the vet techs took Jersey out for a walk as I was leaving; I was very proud of him! He got right up and, not only is he already walking like a pro [well, semi-pro!] but he figured out how to potty without lifting his [missing] leg.
I'll be picking Jersey up late tomorrow morning and then heading to Poughkeepsie for the rest of the week. I already have the car set up w/three layers of blankets and have a sling harness to help him get into the car.
I plan on having internet access while in Poughkeepsie so will be sending out daily updates on Jersey's progress.
Kristi
Surgery/Recovery update
I spoke with Dr. Kohler a few minutes ago. When she stopped in last night to check on Jersey and give him more pain meds he perked right up when he saw her. He had a hearty appetite and enjoyed a big bowl of food before she left. When she arrived this morning one of the vet techs had Jersey out for a walk; she said he was doing well but seemed a little confused about how to go potty w/only three legs.
I am going to stop by later this afternoon to visit with him; I will be sure to give him lots of kisses from everyone!
Surgery Complete!
Jersey is out of surgery and in recovery :-) The surgery took a little longer than expected but there were no surprises and Jersey did great! I am hoping to visit him tomorrow and pick him up on Wednesday morning. We'll be heading to my dad's house in Poughkeepsie - there are no animals or stairs there for him to worry about and I will be with him 24/7 to make sure he is as comfortable as possible.
Finally Relaxed!
I am happy to report that Jersey has been sleeping really well all afternoon. He got up about a 1/2 hour ago for his dinner of boiled turkey breast & brown rice, which he gobbled right up, and is now, once again, sleeping peacefully! Jersey has won the hearts of so many people and I know that they will all be thinking of him tomorrow. Paws crossed that all goes well!!
Jersey's first night
It took Jersey a while to finally settle in and feel comfortable enough to sleep soundly. I discovered that he loves to snuggle :-)
Shelter Life No More!
I picked Jersey up a little after Noon today; as you can imagine, he is VERY HAPPY to be out of the shelter! I took him to visit some friends at Pet Lodge and they fell in love with him right away. He was immediately spoiled! He got tons of treats, a great big bowl of yummy food and a huge Kong filled with peanut butter. He was definitely a happy boy!!
He loves riding in the car; he sat like a good boy in the passenger seat - the only time he moved was to give me a kiss every once in a while. We arrived back at my house a little before 3. So far, so good! He's already enjoyed chewing on a bone and playing with his new toy. He's tried laying down a couple times; I am not sure if he is uncomfortable because of the tumor or is unsure of things, but he cannot seem to settle down. When he lays down and closes his eyes he starts to whine. I can tell he is a sleepy boy so I hope that he is able to relax soon and take a nice long nap.
More later!
Kristi

how is Jersey doing
4/4/2009 8:09:54 PM - 002053520612
Jersey and I had a very enjoyable visit Sunday. We went for a nice lenghthy walk at Kinns road park, one of all my dogs and kids favorite places! So pretty their and lots of trees to pee on (YEAH) said Jersey, we saw other four legged friends on our adventure. I do just as well , and have just as much fun at park. Then we went to Bensons pet store and I was very well behaved, so Miss Lucy brought me a special treat. The store lets you bring in your pets to pick out their own doggie treats, and a sweet lady gave me a free greenie!! She liked me a lot. After our trips we drove to Lucy's and I played with her in her backyard, I like to RUN and FETCH the tennis ball. I got a little tired so we went in the house had dinner and a big drink and took a snooze on the chair. I like the recliner chair even better than the couch. If you want to I can visit with you too, just ask? Love, Jersey PS Jersey was as usual a great house guest. God Bless You Jersey xoxo

Congress Park on Thursday was very interesting for Jersey to explore because most of the snow had melted and allllllllllllllllll those pee spots were just waiting for him to sniff!!!! Mike joined the fan club and Jersey meandered for about 30 minutes with the 3 of us trailing behind. Jersey did grace us with a few lovely poses for the art gallery, but then took us back to the car when he was ready for a nap. This Tuesday Kristi will bring Jersey to my back yard and he will meet a new friend, Maura. (I will put Girl in the car and take her for a ride around the block, while Jersey "struts his stuff".) We have reason to believe that Maura will fall in love with Jersey just as so many others have, so that we can then have Jersey meet her dog over the weekend. Please, please, please help us make Jersey's dream of finding a forever home come true.........THINK WARM AND POSITIVE THOUGHTS....................hugs, Joette

Hi everyone, I had a great day with my boy Jersey on sunday. He was as usual a perfect hoouseguest. We played in my yard , he loves to get the tennis ball. We went to Bensons pet store and roamed around shopping and buying doggie treats, yum! we took a nice walk in the park, Jersey was very interested in ( I think a mouse hiding under the brush?) but we let it be, just curious. After all that we went homw had dinner and a snack and took a snooze on the chair. Jersey loves to visit his friends and is such a perfect guest, so just call kristi and she will be so kind enough to let all of us enjoy this sweet boy for a while and it is good for him to socialize with others too. Still looking for a "FOREVER" home so keep those prayers for sweet Jersey to get what he deserves . God bless you Kristi and Jersey. Kisses and hugs , love ya always Lucy. P.S. see you soon Jersey
3/9/2009 8:05:46 PM - 000081616328
Kristi and I took Jersey to Congress Park for a walk last week. He had such a doggie time sniffing every tree and bush that he could get to. He had no time to "smile for the camera" cause he was nonstop go for a good half hour. More people need to give Jersey these experiences, so I hope visitors will make arrangements to help socialize him. Please make sure that the Jersey story is still part of your conversations every day--he needs to have a forever family really soon. Hugs, Joette

3/3/2009 11:36:41 PM - 002053520612
I was lucky enough to have a afternoon with our precious Jersey Sun. It was so nice, he is a pleasure . I took him to a park and we had a nice walk, he did not want to leave, lots of good smells there! At my house he met my dog Crash but through a pet gate for now. They were ok and good to see another 4 legged friend ( I HOPE SOMEDAY). We played ball and ran around my yard, no snow yet and grass visible. He ate his yummy dinner from his MOM Kristi and loved it. Then I gave him a treat for dessert. Jersey is well mannered in homes and just wants to please. He is a love, so please call and set up a date to have him over for a visit anytime. I hated to see him leave. I love ya Jersey and I am looking for a "FOREVER" home for you always. Hugs Lucy P.S. Thanks Kristi for sharing him. P.S.S. He jumps right up now and can get up and down with ease, AMAZING BOY!!!

Greetings..................I had lunch with Jersey and Kristi today. It just so happened that Mike was in the area visiting and came to see Jersey. He showed us how Jersey can "talk" politely to get one of the many treats Mike had brought along. Jersey was active and happy and busy the entire time the 3 of us were chatting. It is amazing how much personality is still coming out in Jersey. He so deserves to be sharing this with the people in his forever home. Do a good deed over the next few days: Tell the story of Jersey to at least one person a day that you come in contact with. Kristi and Joe have already done SSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOO much for him. More of us need to be helping with this cause......thanks and woof-woof......Joette
2/20/2009 1:06:35 AM - 000081616328
Hi all................I did have lunch with Kristi this week. When we sat down in the kitchen to eat, Jersey was right there "talking" to us about something. I suggested to Kristi that we bring in his bed. He curled right up next to us and proceeded to fall a sleep. He simply wanted to be where the action was!!!!
I LOVE the most recent photos especially the black and white one of him sleeping on the pillow---it has ANGEL written all over it!
I plan to see Jersey again at the beginning of the week. I will need to find a stuffed toy for him to demolish..........hahahha...................hugs,Joette

how's my little fathead doing
2/15/2009 12:22:23 AM - 000081616328
Hi................it was really sweet to see Jersey in a home setting. He is so good and entertains himself by going to the toy box and throwing them out until he finds the exact one he wants to toss and chew!! Of course he cherished his belly rubs and ear scratches. Maybe this week I will visit again and we will take a walk around the block. Hope some more Jersey fans can stop by his Burnt Hills residence too. Love those sloppy kisses of his.......................Joette

Hi Kristi and Jersey,
I wish you both a GREAT valentines day! I was so sorry to hear the bad news on Wed. about petlodge!!! I have been working the Jersey button I wear @ work, I tell all that ask the story of our precious Jersey. I hope someone else tells someone else and so on and so on . I hope a big heart hears the story and comes to his rescue "SOON"!!!!
I am sure this is hard on you too Kristi and maybe everyone can try to help and give Jersey some one on one time also. I wish I could do more also. I want to visit him and take him out and about soon .
I was hoping our group from "HOPE" would be able to find a FOSTER care w/o dogs and children at least temporarilly??? I can imagine it being hard with your 3 children and now a 4th? The pups of course! You are very blessed to have a husband so understanding and kind to help you help Jersey.
I will stay in touch , I recently sent you a txt. , and will keep working for the cause, there is no better. Talk to you soon.
With love, Lucy ( Janel and Michelle send their hugs to Jersey)
2/12/2009 1:50:05 PM - 002057803578
I went to visit Jersey today and met Christie and Joette. He looks fantastic and i got to reconnect with him. I can see why again why this truly fantastic animal has so many friends. he just exudes personality and charm. If all his friends are anything like christie and joette then he is a fortunate lad. It was great to share some of my favorite pet stories with them and to bring jersey many gifts. The whole thing was very overwhelming to the point where i had to tell the woman at stewarts that coffee brings tears to my eyes lol...You all have a friend in me and i hope that we can all do what's right for my little fathead...call me, e-mail me, send me a note if there is anything i can do please just ask
2/10/2009 4:05:08 PM - 002057803578
I can't thank the shelter and Christie enough for the pics and view of my boy. It is clear to me that saints live amongst us cause i can't stop the warmth that i feel right now for the people that took care of jersey. bless you...kudos goes out to all the animal lovers like you as you are special indeed....p.s. he is a handsome devil isn't he
2/10/2009 3:18:35 AM - 000081616328
LOVE the new pics but the one of him sleeping on that red "devil" plush toy is worth a thousand words for sure. I really like the 3 new ones at the top of his page............too cute.......sweet dreams Jersey.......................hugs, Joette
2/10/2009 12:08:22 AM - 000081616328
Hi all..................Jersey and I went on 2 walks this morning. It wasn't as warm as yesterday but it wasn't windy and the sun was warm. Lots of the ice had melted so we moved quickly up and down the driveway for a good 10 minutes. We couldn't use the daycare room, so we set up playtime in the "atrium". After Jersey emptied the kong for the second time, he merely looked at me, rolled over on his side, extended his front paws up, and politely asked for a belly rub..............IT WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOO DARN CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!
I know he's having sweet dreams tonight..............I may already hear him snoring a little.............................HAHHAHAHA, Joette
2/9/2009 11:26:55 PM - 002053834153
I have not seen Jersey since he was at the Saratoga Animal Shelter. It was such a treat to spend the day with him on Sunday. He is such a snuggler! Janel and I took a nap with him during the day and he is soo cute; he can't get close enough to you! He also loved chewing on some stuffed animals we gave to him. What a doll, so nice to see him again. He looks as handsome as ever :)

What a weekend!!! I just adore Jersey to pieeeeceesss! I know I am exhausted just from our adventures today so I can only imagine how tired he is. I just figured I'd fill in a few more details. So Jersey was running today. I don't know if it was the good sleep, gorgeous weather, or the fact that he was on his old stomping grounds but he took me for quite the jog. We explored EVERYTHING on the shelter grounds today. I sent Kristi and Joette the video I took of him on his "run" and boyyy what energy he had! I plan on seeing my baby boy again Wednesday so I will update more then!! Nite nite.
Sweet dreams baby boy ;)

THANK YOU, LUCY..............:)
2/9/2009 12:55:23 AM - 002053520612
Jersey's sleepover con't_: I started and never finished we had to go off to the shelter. part two- Jersey was so tired I decided not to bother him with the idea of a bath, he looks clean anyway. He went out for his last pee @ 11pm and he joined me in my bedroom for his sleep. I let him sleep in the bed he was so sweet I had too, after all my dog comes in anytime she wants . I woke @ 7 am for a shower and sweet Jersey sleep through it, he was snoring away( yes he snores) . Then he had his morning potty break and a nice breakfast.
Jersey explored some more before a short walk. He discovered my dog's "TOY-BOX" it was so much fun for him he took out all the toys (dog) and bones and balls to play with, "HEAVEN"!!! I think Jersey needs his own toy box for all his new toys and bones and balls @ petlodge he has gotten from all his visitors.
I did not mention my dog was also on a sleepover, having fun with my daughter. Dogs need sleepovers just like kids.
Then we were off to the shelter to visit friends. We arrived @ 10 and saw Tracey , Kevin and other friends that took good care of him when he lived there. Then Janel walked him all over and he saw his friends Honey, Ranger, Mitch and Cloey on their walks and said hello. All the dog walkers came over to visit with Jersey he was soooo excited! Very popular boy.
After we left we took a nice long ride, Jersey loves car rides and is so good in the car. He loved his visit with my daughters Janel and Michelle and was spoiled by them both.
Went home and had lunch with Jersey and played in the snow in the back yard and with toys from the toy box and stayed untill 4:15. Then I returned Jersey to the fabulous Petlodge with all his friends there.
He did not want me to leave his pen, but I knew he was a tired pup. We said a long goodbye with kisses and I left. He feel right to sleep. I miss him already. He is a very special dog, god bless you puppy.
I hope Jersey gets more sleepovers from friends untill he gets adopted, he is very gracious and a good guest, we had no problem. It was fun for him and gave him special time with caring people, that is what he needs now. I pray that the right person is out there and reading this to give him the warm comfy home he deserves and "NEEDS"!!
Can't wait to see hiim again soon, love you Jersey. Good night All. Lucy (Jerseys friend)

Hi everyone
Last night @ 5:15 I went to petlodge and surprised Jersey with a visit and also got permission to take him home for a sleepover!!!! He was so good on the ride home, Kristi told me he was good in the car, he loves it and is very calm.
We arrived at my townhouse within 12 minutes. I am in a ranch. We pulled in the garage and I opened the door and Jersey came right out of the car, he is very social and very polite and well mannered. He sniffed the garage and got the scent of my dog Crash, who was also on her own sleepover @ my daughters for the evening.
We went inside and Jersey had so much fun exploring everywhere. He seemed to like my house and had no fear. I had plenty of toys and bones for him to play with.He went right to the couch and got up, and feel asleep! I guess he was either tired or comfy?
After about and hour he got up and asked me to take him out, such a gentleman! I took him to my fenced in back yard and he and I went out. Jersey did his potty behind a tree, good boy!! Once I showed him where the back yard was he knew and from then on went out alone to go potty, amazingly SMART!!
Jersey ahd eaten before I got him and had a small bedtime snack and water. He found a bone of Crash's and chewed it for 45 min. that was great for cleaning his teeth. He really enjoyed it and Crash has plenty to share. Then Jersey decided to take another nap only on the recliner. He gets up very well, the chair was so comfy he fell asleep. Every once in awhile he would open his eyes and peek at me ,sooooo cute!

12 hours 'til I get to see my lil boy!!! I am definitely in need of some puppy love!
2/7/2009 2:14:21 AM - 000081616328
Hello-----Jersey really enjoys going into the daycare room to play whether that's tearing apart stuffed animals with squeakers or playing with the squirrel rope frisbee or rolling the kong to get out the treats! He loves to play with toys which is another one of his really fine qualities. This is one special dog in sooooooooooooo many ways and he deserves to be in his forever home, so he can shower "his special person" with all of his personality. Maybe you (who is reading this right now) are not the match for Jersey, but what I want to know is: can you help us find a home for him?
I think his overnight with Kristi will be more wonderful medicine for him. Remember it's only been a little over 3 weeks since he had his surgery. HHHHHmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I think I hear a black and white pit curled up on a couch just snoring away............................nite dear boy...............hugs, Joette

Hi Jersey fans..............Have any of you caught Jersey playing in Daycare 1? He just loves to run and fetch...........today I was there at noon, Kristi about midday, and Lucy just left at lights out time. We each come with our bag of toys and Jersey is no dummy--he manages to get us to take them all out for him to try!!!
His fur is growing back slowly.............today when I walked him I put on a sherpa coat. He thought it was another toy and tried to pull it off until I got the velcro attached. But when I brought him in from the cold his back was all warm underneath the coat, so I knew it was worth the struggle to put it on him. (My Girl at home is the same way with it................but these pitties have so little fur to stay warm in this frigid weather...........brrrrrrrr)
Jersey continues to amaze me....................he has been through so much and really deserves to be in a home really soon. Hope you are all working on that for him..................hugs, Joette

I cannot even tell you all just how many kisses I got from our little cutie pie today. I lost count somewhere after a hundred! ;) We played ball and just hung out together in the daycare room with my mom. Sometimes...especially after having other playful visits...all he wants is some love and attention. Whatever it is, I am willing to help! So today we did a lot of that. He was very good going back into his kennel but the look I got almost broke my heart. That alone keeps me going until the next time I get to see him!! What appreciation and love that pup has.

Hey there! Kristi and I showed up to visit Jersey at the same time this afternoon. Since this was his first visit for the day, he was rarin' to go. He played a vigorous game of fetch again, and Kristi took some adorable pics which I am sure will be posted for all to see. He was not "happy" when Kristi left to clean his kennel. He whined at the door where she disappeared from for some time. Then when he realized I had the pocket of treats, we managed to play a bit more. Jersey gets stronger everyday...................He is such a sweet boy! I hope everyone out there reading these entries is talking to family and friends and coworkers so that we can find Jersey a forever home ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Joette

Hi all.................I just spent an hour with Jersey. He is amazing. His athleticism on three legs gets stronger every day. Today I brought more of those silly rubber squeaky toys. He chews them so fast that the noise could drive someone nuts, but he is having such fun doing it!!!!!!!!!! We also played fetch with a toy. He can't exactly return with the toy and sit, so I just asked him to drop it. When he did I threw him a small treat before retrieving the toy for another toss across the room. He had lots of stamina to continue that for awhile. When I took him back to Lori Mt., he pranced right in and gobbled up the treat I had for him. I fixed the blankies on his bed and gave him another love pat. I am convinced that changing his diggs was a good thing for him. I think Lucy is going to go for a good nite visit before they close.
Sure hope everyone is still networking to find Jersey a forever home. Hugs, Joette

PS. Hi Joette
1/31/2009 2:02:55 AM - 000081616328
Jersey was all wags when I went to see him in his "new diggs", as they say. He came right out and greeted me with his lovely licks. I was amazed at how easily he played and ran in the doggie daycare room. Three legs is no problem for Jersey at this point it seems. It's fun to see him toss and gut his toys. He even buried them in the corners when he was done with each one!!!! Jersey was ready to go out for his potty walk after all that activity. Believe me, he didn't let a littly slippery ice hold him back from his appointed duties. It was nice that it was a bit warmer outside today, so we didn't have to rush in from shivering. Poor boy, still is missing all that hair on his rump!!! I think a new kennel is part of the good medicine program for Jersey. I will be back Saturday afternnoon at some point with more goodies from the dollar store. I will certainly post another update then. Sleep well, Jersey.
1/28/2009 11:21:04 PM - 002053873129
I hope that Jersey has had a nice relaxing day today. I am sure that he is
very confused about alot of things . Patience and kindness will pull him
through. All of us that have visited him can see the joy that he can bring. My
best wishes are with him.
1/28/2009 4:07:09 AM - 002052624174
I wish only the best for Jersey, and if that means giving him much needed space, then I'm more than willing to do that for him. He is very much in my thoughts, and in my heart. He needs time to heal not only on the outside, but in the inside as well. He's been through so very much. I'm hoping with all my heart, that Jersey can find true peace, and pure happieness. I love you Jersey.
1/27/2009 4:38:57 PM - 000081616328
Well I am in this for the looooooooooooooong haul. Give Jersey a belly rub from me. You know that any one of us is here, if you can think of something to make us feel useful. Hugs, Joette
1/25/2009 10:17:39 PM - 000081616328
OH BOY!!! I had a Jersey fix this afternoon. I hadn't seen him since the stitches had been removed and I'm sure he is much more comfy now.........I met 2 other Jersey cheerleaders (Lucy and Janel). They have been hypnotized like so many of us and have fallen in love with this sweet boy!!!!!! I will try to go with Cathy when Jersey goes to the BonTon this week. Please, everyone, remember we still have to find Jersey a home so talk about him wherever you go....................Hugs, Joette

Hi everyone,
I had a great weekend visiting with all my shelter puppy friends @ petlodge, but ESPECIALLY my favorite JERSEY!!! The adoption clinic went well with a possible ? for my adorable HONEYDEW, I pray. Jersey had a lot of visitors and was so spoiled sat. well deserved he is a precious little boy. I got to meet Kathy, and she was wonderful with all the pups . I learned a lot from her in minutes, such a special lady. All the dog friends I have met through Petlodge, Hope and our shelter are such wonderful big hearted women and men and I feel honored to meet them and hope to become friends. Today I meet Joette another great lady with a big heart, we were @ petlodge with my daughter Janel and Jersey. Jersey met my dog through the car window only , just close enough! Jersey got great bones from Janel and Joette. I am keeping the prayers for Jerseys recovery and adoption DAILY and will visit him as often as possible. THANK GOD FOR SPECIAL PETS!!! And THANK GOD FOR " KRISTY"!!!! Love Lucy

Hi Kristi!!
I just saw the pic of Jersey and I you posted. I love it! I had sooooo much fun with Jersey today and yesterday. I could stay there with him for hours. What an absolute angel. This dog is a real example to us humans who find so much to "complain" about. I love him for his strength, his will and his unbelievable affection. He never fails to bring a smile to my face. Nothing like seeing his handsome self running towards me when I come to visit, tail wagging and ready to give a smooch! You, as well, are truly amazing and I am so thankful for Jersey to have found such a guardian angel as yourself. Hope to see you tomorrow!!
xoxo,
Janel

I'm so happy that Jersey has his stiches out and a clean bill of health. I will be wishing and hoping for a good turnout for the adoption clinic. I hope today will be the day Jersey finds his forever home. I would be there, but I have a prior commitment. I love you Jersey. Good luck!!!
1/23/2009 9:21:19 PM - 002054869211
Kristi...I absolutely loved Jersey the first second I met him. To give me kisses like that with never meeting me before tell's alot about his disposition. If I had a farm (and no cats :) ), I wouldn't hesitate to make him a member of my family !! I love you for all you do for all animals, let alone Jersey. His photo's bring a smile to my face and, hopefully, to many on Saturday !!
1/23/2009 4:39:19 AM - 002053520612
Wow I am soooooo happy Jersey is ok!!!! I was a little worried Wed. I noticed he was a little off and not as playful as I visited online. I guess I know him a little . Kristy, thanks for the return info: I am soooo excited to come tomorrow to love Jersey and I hope he remembers me a little. It has been 2 whole weeks since I last saw him @ the shelter. I miss him a lot. Kristy, I truly love how you write from the HEART, you are very SPECIAL and I hope I meet you tomorrow. I will pray for Jerseys forever home Sat., but I am sure it will be soon! That is so nice he will have a sleepover with you again tomorrow.
With love, hugs and kisses to
Jersey xoxo sweet dreams

I enjoy being brought up-to-date on Jersey and I am hoping he gets adopted on Saturday. Kristi, you have done a wonderful job with Jersey and you have inspired so many to stop by and see him. He is a much loved boy and will make someone a wonderful family member. Because of you I have a sweetheart of an addition to our family named Brady who made a friend with our other dog Caitlyn when he joined our family. I know somewhere there is a family who will be so happy to adopt Jersey to complete their family. I pass along all the comments about Jersey to several of my friends and they have enjoyed reading about him and wish him well. Jean

Hi Jersey and Kristy and everyone @ petlodge helping with our Jersey,
I have been enjoying seeing Jersey everyday on the petlodge webcam, that is the best thing. He seems to be doing well, is he? Today I noticed he was not as active I hope he feels ok? Was the vet seeing him? I would love to stop by Friday and visit him and wonder what he can eat now? I want to bring treats like I did @ the shelter each Sunday. I also will tell everyone to visit him Saturday and the other dogs @ the adoption clinic, and pray we get some nice warm happy homes for the dogs Sat. Everyone loves Jersey and pray for him. I am so excited and happy he may have a foster home that would be better for his recovery. Kristy you have done a great job since day one and you see the love he has for you, thank you from all of us that know our boy Jersey and love him too.!!!! Love and hugs and kisses to Jersey
Many prayers for all the friends he has @ the shelter also waiting for homes. Love you special pup, see you Friday!! Lucy

I couldn't fit a Jersey visit into my schedule today and boy did I miss him. I checked on him on the webcam every chance I got. He's soooooooooooooooooo cute! Notice how steady he is already in the 3-legged stance...........Hope some other visitors get a chance to visit him at Pet Lodge. Don't forget to tell everyone about the adoption clinic right there at Pet Lodge on Saturday.....................Joette

I had a nice visit with Jersey today. He is doing great which is what I
expected. I know from experience how amazing it is to see them get along on
three legs. My dog also had to have a rear leg amputated. He has a great set up
at Pet Lodge with many beds, toys, and treats to choose from! He is a good boy
and I know he will find a wonderful home. Thanks to Kristi for all she has
done

Kelly and I had another fun visit with Jersey and today Donna joined us on the floor. She carefully inspected the stitches and pronounced them healing nicely. Then we rubbed his belly and scratched his ears simply because we could not keep our hands off of this sweet boy!!!!!!!!!!!! He must be getting better cause he actually barked when the others in doggie day care started in the playroom---he wanted to join them!!!! Wow one week from your surgery, Jersey, and you are such a good patient. You will feel soooooooooooooooo much better when those stitches are removed................it won't be long now. Hugs, Joette
1/18/2009 2:30:13 PM - 002052624174
I feel so lucky to have been a part of Jerseys welcoming commitee to Pet Lodge. He is such a wonderful, beautiful dog. He seems to be adjusting quiet well to three legs. And adjusting well to his temporary "home" at Pet Lodge. He loves to have visitors. Joette and I will be going to visit him again today. Kristi is truely an amazing person. I admire everything about her. Thank God for Kristi!!! I love you Jersey, I hope all your dreams for a forever home, come true.
1/18/2009 11:48:29 AM - 002053983280
I just checked on Jersey via the webcam... such a brave, brave boy!!! I know he will do fine, and adjust beautifully. Bless you for caring for such a sweet boy, and you and Jersey are in our thoughts, in our prayers, and in our hearts. Patti, Mikey and Woody
1/17/2009 8:26:46 PM - 000081616328
You can't believe the healing power a dog with a second chance has!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kelly and I just helped Kristi and Joe move Jersey into his "home" at Pet Lodge. If you go to their website and click on Mohawk Valley suite room, you will be able to see Jersey in his wall to wall luxury bedding. We spent about an hour with all of them and Jersey was very busy taking in all the smells. He was running in the hall between the kennels, cause he could hear the others barking in doggie daycare. We actually viewed the pee and poop routine, and being without a leg is NOT an issue for this sweet dog. He has adjusted to his new normal and no one would consider Jersey handicapped in any way.............Kristi (and Joe) you have done a super job so far..................the FANS FOR JERSEY thank you a million times over!!!!!!!!!!!
Jersey, get a good night's rest...............Kelly and I will be back tomorrow afternoon to visit. Hugs, Joette

The new pictures are great! It's unbelievable how different the dogs look "out" of the shelter...I hope the new "publicity" and beautiful pictures posted will help a new home quickly find it's way to Jersey. Can't wait to see you pup! Much love.

Hi Kristi and Jersey! Just wanted to leave a message wishing you both a great weekend. I love the updated pictures. His spotted skin is so cute. He looks like a puppy in some of those pictures. Adorable!
1/16/2009 1:09:16 PM - 000081616328
Hi Kristi and Jersey..............sounds like recovery is moving right along................ya know dogs are not much different from kids. When your tummy hurts or your stitches burn, you don't feel much like eating. So it made sense that as soon as you got the meds in Jersey, his whole body could begin to consume food and then he could regain more strength. I'm baking some butcher shin bones for Baby Girl over the weekend. Should I bring some to Jersey at Pet Lodge next week? Let me know when you are working cause I would love to see you too. Kelly and I are headed to the shelter cat adoption clinic at the Wilton movies for the opening of "Hotels for Dogs." Can't wait to see some more pics of our warrior Jersey!!Hugs, Joette
1/16/2009 12:12:36 AM - 002053760290
I miss you Jersey!! Jersey truly is an amazing dog...and what a tough cookie to go through all this, so smoothly, from what it sounds. My heart broke when I heard the news regarding the amputation but after reading the story you put up Kristi, I have to say I felt much much better. I will admit it made me shed quite a few tears though...I myself am a huge softie and have just went through a major, and quite emotional, leg surgery with my own 6 year old pup. It is scary but these animals are amazing and so strong. They deserve so much credit...and so much love. Please tell Jersey I will definitely be coming to visit him at Pet Lodge. Lots of love to such a courageous and patient animal... xoxo jj 'n' cc

Thank you for the update on Jersey. I am a shelter volunteer dog walker on Friday and Sunday. I know our precious Jersey and have walked her alot. She is wonderful and beautiful. I prayed for her and I am thrilled she has pulled through. It was hard to say goodbye to her this past Friday as I left, she did not want a walk so we just visited and had a treat together. I will spread the word to friends and family about precious Jersey and hopefully she will be adopted asap. Give her hugs from our family.
