Cancer walk 9-26-09
I cannot even begin to tell you what an awe inspiring walk this was. Not only was I walking for those who have cancer, for those who are survivors and for those who lost their battle. I was also walking for myself to prove to myself that YES I can do this. It was exciting, exhilarating, and quite emotional especially as we crossed the finished line running and having people cheer us on.
Charlotte looked at me and showed me her watch which said 38 minutes, she said 'do you think we can make it under 40?' I grabbed her arm and we ran as fast as we could together! We did it! Wow, as I think about that moment I get teary eyed again. I had never experienced anything like it - it was quite rewarding! I got many high-fives, many hugs, many GO JOEY's! I'm proud of myself!
Although I was nervous as hell when we first got there, i didn't know what to expect. i was excited but more nervous. Charlotte could read my face. When we registered, we got a ticket then had to stand in line for our shirts. I knew I couldn't, so Charlotte said I could sit down and she'd grab them. Then we took a few photos of me being nervous. Then I said i better go to the bathroom. I couldn't go - i was so nervous.
Once we got started, I was doing fine. I wanted to keep ahead of the little boy with his big wheel!
But he got ahead of us. I ran a little - Charlotte had to keep up with me!! LOL
I just tried to maintain - keep my focus and FINISH. And that I did! Go Joey GO!!! I (we) finished in 40 minutes!
We didn't even bring the camera on the walk, others had theirs, but i just thought it would be a pain. Charlotte did carry my machine in her backpack in case something happened and i needed to say what was wrong. Thank you Charlotte & thank you for walking with me!!
We hung out a little after and took pictures, watched the runners come in - they ran the 10K!
It will be something I'd like to try again. I am nervous for the actual marathon, knowing how many people were here and knowing there will literally be thousands more at the Marathon. I'll need to round up a few people to walk with me. I know I can do this.
A few of the other Exp. trainers saw us at the end. I wish i had gotten a photo of the three guys or the three guys and Charlotte! Next time!
Thank you to Southpoint for all your support and to Charlotte - thank you for making this possible. Making me believe I could do this (even though you wanted to call my dad - if something happened!!)
Thank you to my wonderful Shutterfly friends for your constant motivation and encouragement! My friends and family have sent me lovely emails and have said how proud they are of me. My doctors are excited and so proud I did this! Its amazing for all the support and I thank each of you for that! For believing in me!
Yeah I did it, I'm gonna keep on moving!!
To most of you, walking two miles is no biggy, but for me it was a new challenge and this is why it was so HUGE for me to finish. When I first started this journey mid June, I couldn't even walk ONE lap around the gym without sitting down several times. Now there's nothing that will stop me!

Fire truck
This was on way to my place. There was no fire. There is a pumpkin thing going on for the kids at Rhealt Farm and they brought in a fire truck for the kids to see. Or thats what we thought!
What do you think?

Joey, way to go. Looks like you had a good day for your walk, you look so cute with your hair pulled back and ready to go. Isn't it a fun event, just seeing all the supporters, please there with tshirts saying who they're with, or who they're walking for, or if they're a survivor. There's always fun booths here to stop by and get a write pen, or a scarf to get for a keepsake. You're amazing :) What's next on your "To Do List"??

Joey, I am so proud of you and Thankful for you to support such a wonderful cause. I do both RFL and the Susan G, Komen Race for the Cure. Cancer is deep history in my family and is what led me to my big surgery this summer. Without all the support and reseach available through funding of these events I would not have been able to have the kind of surgery I had. Thank you for your support. I AM PROUD OF YOU!!!

Congratulations, Joey bean! I am so proud of you! What an amazing accomplishment. Your strength, determination and strong will are all so inspiring. Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the whole story about you being nervous and the thrill of crossing the finish line to cheers and support. How cool is that??!!??? Thank you so much for being the warm, wonderful person that you are and for sharing your journey and adventures with all of us. Truly incredible!
Jarrett and I did the Walk For the Cure, too, last Saturday with my dear friend, Chris, who is a cancer survivor (twice now!) We walked with her whole family and it was such an awesome experience. I didn't drag my camera along either, I'm hoping to get copies of the pictures her friend took for us. Jarrett got a few on his phone, but I don't know if I can upload those to the computer or not.
Oh, and I absoloutely LOVE the "busy kickin' cancer's butt" shirt - too fabulous!
I am so happy that you were able to have this experience. Awesome story!
