We crossed the Sierra Nevada mts on Interstate 80 as we departed California. Rain in the lower elevations quickly changed to snow as the road climbed to Donner Pass. I donned winter gear and gave Wesley a walk around Donner Lake. This is the site where the Donner party became snowbound in the late 1840`s. Many perished here and cannibalism was practised.

Snow covered pines
Donner Lake State Park is heavily forested and the pines produce really large pine cones. I`ve collected a few on my visits there.
