Still in the vicinity of Kanab,UT we visited Best Friends Animal Sanctuary---the largest no kill shelter in the US. Nearby was Pink Coral Sand Dunes,a Utah state park and we hiked the vast dunefield there.

unique memorial to a beloved pet!
Memorial to an animal lover
when the time comes,I may have a similar one for myself!
Wes and I strolled the grounds on a warm late fall day. I have a few memorials there, one to Butch and a wind chime for Smiley.
Best Friends occupies a vast amount of land in a desert canyon. Hiking around the sanctuary,we followed a sand trail that led back to a shallow cave. It was apparently used by prehistoric people as a grainary of sorts. A pictograph is on the rock wall.
just outside the Best Friends visitor center is a large pond filled with goldfish. my camera is waterproof,so I submerged it for this photo
Angels Rest 2
further along is another memorial garden as the original angels rest is full. This was a nice memorial there.
Prayer wheel at Best Friends
This was a neat rock sculpture. Prayer flags can be seen hanging from the trees.
Another nice memorial to a loved pet
Butch`s memorial at Best Friends
After Butch crossed over the Rainbow Bridge,I had this memorial stone placed in Angels Rest. Butch was my hiking companion for 5 1/2 years---he was 4 when I adopted him. We had 5 trips to Alaska together as well as many smaller hikes.
Pink Coral Sand Dunes
Pink Coral Sand Dunes is a state park near Best Friends. It`s an amazing expanse of orange sand dunes. Wes and I spent 2 days hiking there.
Hiking along the ridge of a high dune. Our shadows can be seen on the sand below. It was a little difficult straddling the narrow dune ridgeline, but falling wasn`t a worry since it was soft sand.
Perhaps it should be called Orange Coral Sand Dunes as the sand really looked more that color!
a rather odd sight---isolated trees in the dunefield.
Wesley`s paw prints in the sand
fun to run or slide down but work to climb up! it was fairly warm thus hiking barefoot prevented sand accumulation in shoes.
Mushing across the dunes
Wes pulling nicely as we hike!
