jpamusher`s travel pix - 68 - Lava Tube
Roof of the Lava tube
This lava tube is located in the national forest outside of Flagstaff,Arizona. GPS coordinates are N 35 20.587 W 111 50.295. It is 3/4 mile long and is a straight in and out hike as it ends at a rock wall. Here I played my headlamp on the roof as I hiked back from the entrance.

the lava tube is really an underground cave. Pitch black down here so headlamps are a necessity. The floor is uneven with fissures in places.
Block on floor of Lava Tube
This rock was sitting on the floor of the lava tube at a low spot. I had to duck to crawl on further past this point before it widened up again. Here I used a blue filter on my headlamp to illuminate the block.
Green headlamp filter on the block
same pix as previous but illuminated with the green filter

It was a saturday,so lots of folk were out exploring the tube. These ladies were nice enough to let me take their picture. It illustrates hiking underground in the lava tube. Wesley was back in Flagstaff in the Canyon Pet Hospital being treated for dehydration and thus was not with me here. I tried to get him to enter it the previous year but he freaked out at the entrance and wouldn`t go underground so then I left him back in the car.
This was the large chamber at the back end of the lava tube. It ends at a rock wall here.
