jpamusher`s travel pix - 863 - Florida

Our West trip of 2012 was nearing its end. We stopped off in Florida to spend Thanksgiving with my sister and did some hiking and kayaking while there.

We did some beach hiking on Navarre beach. This is a lovely beach of white sand on the Gulf of Mexico near Pensacola. Wes enjoys a drink. Late Nov but it was warm enough to walk in shorts and barefoot.

There is some sort of military installation here at the end of the beach. This may be a radar tower of sorts.

We arrived a few days before Thanksgiving,so proceeded down to Everglades City before visiting with my sister. I arrived there late in the afternoon, but still in time for a boat tour out to the islands in Chokoloskee Bay. A pod of dolphins was following the boat!

The next day,we hiked part of the Florida Trail in Big Cypress Preserve. Many parts of the trail were flooded and venemous water moccasins were present. Gave them a wide berth!

not all of the trail was flooded. there were large "islands" of dry ground such as here where we stopped for lunch.

This was an old cemetary beside another section of the Florida trail in Suwannee State park. This person would`ve been a teenager during the Civil War!

Leaving Florida,we stopped for one last hike at Fort Clinch State Park. There is an old Confederate fort here. I love the old Union flag flying above it. Nice circular design of stars!
